MeeshL says "Heartfelt good time movie" about Up

I bought the DVD of "UP" for my sister for Christmas this year. Orginally planning to see it in the movie theater but waited for the DVD after hearing mixed reviews of the movie. Although, I believed the movie was going to be directed more towards the children audience, I was thrilled to see that the storyline was directed more towards an adult audience. It was a touching love story: about dedication, devotion, loyalty and adventures. Yes, it did have some funny moments, which were often advertised in the commericals on television. Dug, the talking dog through his specialized collar, was funny. The main characters of Carl and Ellie was touching, through childhood until the adventure of Carl ties the story together. Although the scout Russell can sometimes become annoying, his view of Carl and adventure is sweet and innocent. It is a great DVD to watch with the kids of even just an evening in. Highly recommeded.
...

Keepee says "One of the BEST Disney movies since the Lion King" about Up

I love movies, especially "kids" movies and Up is by far one of the best of any genre I've ever seen. It starts out with laughter and tears as you see Carl meet Ellie, a little girl with the same passion for adventure he has. It's their dream to go to South America (like America...only...SOUTH!) You watch them grow together and have the ups and downs any adults might have, always preventing them from going away to adventure, until Ellie passes away. All this happens in the first few minutes- then the adventures really begins!

This movie is so bright and colorful, with such beautiful music! It's refreshing to see a movie that is NOT the same old story line done in an ever so slightly different way. The facial expressions of the characters, human and non-human, are so absolutely perfect. Fabulous voice work, you will literally be laughing out loud constantly!

This is definitely on my "to buy" list. It's a movie I'll want to watch over and over again, with the laughs coming a...
...

Fardreamer says "Up is a heartwarming film by the animators at Pixar Studios!" about Up

Although I have watched, perhaps, hundreds. if not thousands, of movies of all types (ranging from adult films to Z-grade Westerns) since the mid-1960s, I've never really been a fan of "family fare" or animated movies.

Perhaps this reluctance to like anything that smacks of kid-friendly fare stems from the razzing I suffered when, in the fifth grade, I remarked that I had gone to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarves when Walt Disney Pictures re-released it in theaters in one of those "once in a blue moon" Special Engagements. I, like many others before and since, had loved that first of the Disney classic animated films, but lots of my friends considered Disney movies "baby stuff" and totally uncool.

So even though I've seen some of the last batch of 2-D Disney Classics (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King), I tend to ignore tons of movies which are animated or are produced/released by Walt Disney Pictures.

For some reason, though, I've liked quite a few of...
...

Greenpeaches says "I thought Up would be depressing, but it was very funny " about Up

I thought that Up would be a dreary movie with dull colors and a slow storyline, but it was very colorful with a wonderful setting and hilarious characters. The trailers were not a very good view of the story, and for that reason I almost skipped out on the movie. I like Dug and Kevin, and Dug reminds me of our own dog. The jokes in the movie were actually really funny, and I laughed practically all through Up. The beginning was weird, but it gets better. The news reel was kind of cool, and I like the remodel on the house. Usually I go in and out of the living room when we're watching a movie, but this one I actually sat down to watch it with my kids. It was very cute and warm, and the colorful jungle background was very cool. It became my son's favorite movie in an instant, and we watched in over and over again, but I never got sick of it. The characters were very colorful. I would recommend it to any family with small kids.
...

Pixar Animation Studios' UP is one of the reasons I bought a Blu-Ray player. The lastest, greatest visual feast cooked up by Pixar's animators dazzles with it's rich, layered textures that are as bright as the balloons carrying Carl's house to South America.

If you don't know by now that quality and Pixar are virtual synonyms, then you just haven't been paying attention. For, while the new animation is detailed and breath taking, they really take a back seat to the story.

UP, opens with a young Carl Fredrickson(voiced by Lou Grant, er Ed Asner) watching a MovieTone news real (excellently crafted by the animators to make us wonder if it's real footage at first) featuring his hero and all around explorer Charles F. Muntz (Christopher Plummer). The reel is significant to our story as it dipicts Muntz being disgraced when scientists examining his latest find deem it a fake. Muntz vows to return to the place he got the skeleton and come back with the real thing, to vindicate himself. ...
...

The movie Up just came out on DVD on Tuesday. I was having my sister-in-law and her two daughtors come over for a slumber party and she recommended the movie Up. So I went online to redbox.com to rent it online so I knew i would for sure be able to get the movie when I went to the store. When we watched it we had in attendence a two - year - old a six - year old my husband and sister in law watching the movie. There were parts that everyone laughed at. My sister in law made the comment on how it was a nice calm movie and didnt have censory overload as many childrens movies have these days. We all agreed it was a great movie to watch and for only $1! it was great! You know it has to be a good movie when my two year old neice and my sport loving man's man husband can laugh together watching the same movie. I would recommend it to families to watch over the holidays with their whole families.
...

**Spoiler ALERT!!!**

Up is soooo adorable! I love this movie so much. This little boy who never talks falls in love with exploring and meets a little girl who shares the same passion. They have many adventures and fall in love. It shows them over the years getting married and making great memories and then it shows them being very old and her dieing. This is very sad and the whole first part of the movie makes me cryyyy :(( But it's sooo cute! His house is in the middle of a construction zone and he will not sell. One day something happens and the old man ends up hurting another person and has to go to court and they tell him he has to go live in this old folks home. Long story short he fills up thousands and thousands of balloons and they burst up through the roof and his house flies away!! Its a great moment!!! The whole house lifts up and through the sky they sore! Its beautiful. A little boy is on the front porch for several minutes before he starts knocking scaring the old man to...
...
