When I graduated from high school my parents pushed me towards applying to U of M and staying somewhat close to home. I decided to head to Colorado for a year instead. After a year out west I returned home to attend the University of Michigan- mostly because of it's superb reputation. I honestly think that was the best decision I've ever made. I absolutely love the school, the town, and the whole atmosphere of being at student at U of M....

University of Michigan is a wonderful college that is highly respected by people all over the world. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to this University, it also has two other campus sites in Flint and Dearborn, Michigan which offer smaller class sizes, different types of study programs, cheaper classes, and less of the social scene, without losing the pride that one gets from going to UofM.
...

I went to the University of Michigan ten years ago. It is an excellent, public university that is affordable to in-state students. I graduated from the school of education there. It was an excellent education and really gave me the tools that I needed to become a top-notch educator. I never lived in the dorms, but did have my own apartment and lived in a sorority house for two years. In both cases, I was able to learn a lot about myself and others.

The University of Michigan offered me a well-rounded college experience. I had excellent professors and large classes. But, I was also only one of twenty-three students in my cohort in the school of education. I was also introduced to Big Ten sports and lots of different social experiences. Greek life is active on campus, but there are lots of activities for students who choose not to join a fraternity or sorority.

Above all, the University of Michigan is where I met my husband, so I am most grateful for that.
...

As a former college admission counselor, I am always interested in institutions of higher education; why people choose them and what they think about them. With moving to a new city, I have this wonderful opportunity to talk to people and find out why they went to school where they did and how successful that education was. So, sit back, relax, and find out what this former student of the University of Michigan has to say.

What degree if any did you earn or pursue? I earned a BA in English and a Secondary Teaching Certificate

What was your major? English

What were the top three reasons you chose to go to the University of Michigan? 1. I wanted a school with a great football team/school spirit 2. I wanted it to be highly competitive for admission 3. I loved the town where the school is located (Ann Arbor)

What other programs are of particular interest at this school? Its theatre/dance/music program is highly regarded. It also boasts great graduate level programs.

Did you live in a dorm;...
...

The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor offers stellar chances for creating a solid academic foundation in a myriad of departments, with leading programs in law, medicine and Classics. The campus is a venue for national conferences and international speakers, allowing students a broad range of opportunities, in addition to the many study abroad programs that it funds.

In addition to the college's many academic advantages, the campus is also relatively attractive, as it sprawls throughout downtown Ann Arbor. Beautiful conference centers offset the the many athletic complexes that the university boasts.

U of M-Ann Arbor also tends to the needs of a culturally diverse student body, and encourages the exploration of these various cultures through community and extra-curricular events.

While the University of Michigan-Flint is rather costly, its benefits to the average baccalaureate student do indeed outweigh the price tag that attendance and admission tend to demand. Graduate programs may......

Although I never attended University of Michigan, I grew up going to their football games and I have friends and family members who have attended. They have some excellent undergraduate and graduate programs. The large class size is a turn-off for me. Also the campus is very spread out which makes getting around rather confusing. But Ann Arbor is an awesome city and it revolves around the university....

While Michigan is cold and Ann Arbor is expensive (including tuition), the campus is gorgeous, the environment is welcoming and dynamic, the opportunities available to students are enormous, and commuting around campus is a breeze with the private (and free) bus system. Deciding to attend UofM was the best thing I could have done for myself. I felt welcome and safe coming from out of state.

What I enjoyed other than the sense of community and pride was the enormous amount of activity and student support. Not only is the campus ripe with professional development opportunities, but the university offers additional financial aid to students in need and actively strives to make sure that cost is not a barrier to obtaining a quality education.

I am proud to have earned my MSW from the top-rated school of social work in the country (for more than 12 years running). GO BLUE!!!
...

Great school to be proud of
Top 10 school in so many subjects from Engineering to Liberal Arts. Very large choice of majors. Great Medical School with gigantic hospital facility. Largest problem is the separation of the campus. The campus is way to spread out, but thats because it was growing with the city of Ann Arbor and so the university ran out of room and had to move farther away. Main Central campus has the liberal arts, science, math, education, social work, law, etc. on central/main campus. Engineering, Arts, Architecture, Music, Theater and Drama are on North Campus, which is 1 mile away. UM has buses every 5 minutes connection central and North Campus.

THe city of Ann Arbor is very nice and beautiful, but everything is expensive compared to the rest of the State of Michigan...
