United Airlines is the worst airline in the world, and believe me, I have traveled the world on many different airlines. My father is an airline pilot for United and I used to think it was a good airline until it lost all his retirement. Not only that, but on my last flight to Hawaii, United lost my luggage! They are a cheap company that not only mismanages its employees but also mismanages its customers! They don't even give out snacks but charge for every item imaginable. If your flying to Hawaii, Hawaiian airlines is the best, and if your flying anywhere at all, don't fly United!!!

Stephen Fussle
...

maddogsurrender says "Very disappointing baggage handling service" about United Airlines

I will spare you the details, and I understand that bags are lost from time to time. But the handling of the situation was abysmal. On a trip from Chicago to Paris, my luggage was delayed by about 36 hours. I was told over the phone that my replacement clothing would be reimbursed up to $150 (hardly enough for two days of clothing in Paris). I was also told that my entire cost of toiletries would be reimbursed (46 EUR). I was even given an address where I should send the receipts.

I received the $150 check, and received a separate letter that they would not honor their baggage service reps committment to reimburse for toiletrie items. Obviously, no phone number of email was provided so that I could discuss my claim. I reiterated in writing that United had already committed to reimbursement, and again they wrote me declining to provide what was promissed.

Disappointing to have them lose a lifetime customer.
...

Susie-34668 says "United Airlines went the extra mile for us" about United Airlines

I have to say after using U.S. Airways I was delighted how we were treated with United Airlines. U.S. Airways had taken our reservations, as they owed us credit from previous flights. We found out the night before traveling that we would have to go to the airport to check in.

The lady at the check-in counter, at T.I.A. took our details and printed out the boarding passes. She immediately told us that we were not together. U.S. Airways fault. She suggested we see someone at the gate and get it changed. This I did and we were upgraded to economy plus. This gave us extra legroom.

The flight was on-time. We had a television screen above us and free headsets. We could watch the program or listen to music. I opted for the music. We only had one drink on our 3 hour flight to Chicago O'Hare. The plane landed on time and we were pleased with the flight. We did not purchase the expensive snacks.

Upon our return, we again had to do the check-in at the airport. This is the...
...

LUDANG says "Tolerable" about United Airlines

We recently traveled to Sydney, Australia on United, with three small children. The check-in representative was very friendly, efficient and polite. This was great as we were checking our luggage in four hours before our flight. The flight its self was fine. But...our son had half his seat taken over by an overweight lady who kept the arm of the chair up. She did not even ask us if we were okay with this. Thank goodness he is only 2 years old!!! We orderd three children's meals and only received two. The food was not the best but edible. Once the meal service was over, that was it no service until the next meal. Drinks were self service at the back of the plane. We got a really cheap price for this flight, but would prefer to travel with Qantas Airline or Air New Zealand Airline for such a long haul flight.

On our return flight the service was a little bit better. Our son actually had a whole seat to himself. The food was okay. Seats on these flights are cramped, but considering...
...

United has one of the worst seat pitches in the industry. If you have long legs, as I do, your knees suffer every time the person in front of you puts their seat back. United uses this customer abuse as a method of selling seats with a large pitch at a premium. They also charge for checking luggage and other services. Your flight will feel much longer on this airline.
...

tmscudder says "BEWARE.....LUGGAGE OVERLIMIT FEES ARE EXHORBITANT" about United Airlines

When leaving Kuaiu yesterday, we were so stunned at the luggage charges we didn't make the right decision. You are standing in line with many people behinde you and find out your suitcase is four pounds overweight...........charge $125.00.

Had I opened the bag (in front of the customers) I could have removed two pairs of sandles and been in weight. They would have easily fit in my carryon.

2nd bag same as first.............I could have reached into the bag and removed a small-bag with my baby printer I take on trips and been within weight.........again the $125.00 charge.

Next issue who ever heard of a five hour flight with no food unless you call those rolled sandwiches nicely priced at $9.00 food.

Summary.........I will make sure that I have an extra bag to either ship or carry. I will not intentionally travel United!!!!! This was too much.
...

It had been awhile since the last time I flew United so I thought I'd try them again. Not sure I made the right decision. They changed my flight to one 4 1/2 hours earlier when there were flights closer to my original itinerary. I was asked if I wanted more leg room. Was told I could get it for a price of $29 each leg. What else will airlines ask for. The price of gas went up and they added bag fees. It went back down and the bag fees remained. Somebody needs to step in so we are not at the mercy of these crooks.

United flights to and from Frankfurt Germany originating in Nashville TN. The trip was characterized by a lack of service and concern for a disabled passanger and those with small children. Upon encountering a delay on one leg little and confusing infromation was provided. Later when the flight was ultimately cancelled no information was forth coming on rebooking, lugagge or any thing else. We were simply summarly told to exit the plane and that was that. I will not travel on United Airlines again unless forced to do so.
...

My husband and I planned a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico for Feburary 2009. We purchased our plane tickets in May of 2008. Our original plan was to fly Delta to Las Vegas than United to Dallas FortWorth and then on to Puerto Rico. In August our 2hr lay over in Vegas turned into a 7 hr lay over so we found another United flight that flew out of Vegas that same night and flew to Miami and then to puerto Rico. we called United had our flights changed and was told that they would not be able to change our delta flight, we told them that was fine we wanted our delta flight. So they just needed to change our flight going out of Vegas not into Vegas. We though everthing was taken care of till the night we got to the airport(6 months later) and Delta said our tickets had been exchanged, but they couldnt find what the had been exchanged for. We had ticket with United flying out of Vegas with my husband final destination being Miami and Me flying on into Puerto Rico. Come to find...
...

seeyanhong says "Customers are not valued" about United Airlines

I had a very bad experience with United Airlines's International Award Travel. I had issued an international award ticket earlier to do travel across the Pacific Ocean. Recently, they have notified me that they need to change my iternary because they are trying consolidate flights. My original connecting flight was being pushed by 1 hour. Considering flying across all the way from Asia with a small kid (just me to bring the little boy), waiting another 1 hour is just a tortune. I asked for a refund of my miles into my account. However, the call representative told me that since the change was within 120 minutes, I am not eligible for a redeposit of miles unless I pay $150 change fee. This is ridiculous and there is no consideration of the United Airlines agent for a loyal customer which is travellling with kid. What they enforce is to stick to the "policy" but there is no intention of trying to build relationship with customers.

Please avoid United Airlines!
...

j9j says "no worse than your other choices" about United Airlines

United Airlines is a decent airline. The prices and routes are fairly competative. The agents are normally quite helpful and my bag normally arrives with me. The food isn't anything to brag about, but it is normally edible. The seats aren't too bad. However, the frequent flyer program isn't very good. If you are not careful your miles will expire. I like traveling on Lufthansa (one of their partners) so I end up on United from time to time. In comparison to Lufthansa the service and comfort are not very good, but in comparison to most other airlines they are fine.
...

I prefer United because

it flies everywhere (now to Moscow, Russia too)

it's planes are much more comfortable than other's

it's Mileage Plus system is really very friendly to it's members and is working with a very reliable bank

the personel is great

very easy online check in and ticket reservation
...
