I love rice. I like the taste and versatility of the grain and the fact that it is easy to prepare. The Uncle Ben's brand has always been my favorite; I like the way it cooks up; i.e. each grain, if cooked right, is a separate blast of tasty goodness. In other words, it does not stick together; I detest sticky rice, except in my local Chinese food container.

So I was thrilled when Uncle Ben's release a new line of microwavable rice's in individual and family sized pouches, one of which is Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Brown Ready Rice.

My Viewpoint

Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Brown Ready Rice makes a great side dish for almost any meat and vegetable, but I like to pair it with either beef of salmon. The 8.8oz package packs a fair amount of flavor, but at one two one cup servings is really only adequate for two, or three. Uncle Ben's distributed by Mars Food Co., also markets a 14.8 "Family Size" package.

Yes, I enjoy white rice, but whole grain brown rice is better for you and...
...

AnnaBanana says "Uncle Ben at the table is a welcome dinner guest!" about Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Brown Ready Rice

It seems like a lot of my reviews start like this, but anyway Peapod was having this sale on Uncle Ben's products -- ten for $10 -- and I fell for it like a ton of bricks. Among the items I'm trying for the first time is Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Brown Ready Rice. My gourmet cooking days (when I used to put out the white linen cloth along with fancy dishes and crystal) are pretty much a nostalgic memory now but even I can handle the prep work involved in these Ready Rice things. Stoically, I tore one corner of the package to allow the steam to vent and heated the gol-darned thing for 90 seconds in the microwave. This stuff is delicious either served plain as a side dish or as a "bed" of rice for oriental food, hot salsa, or other type of entree.

STATS:

The package holds two one-cup servings each containing 240 calories with 30 calories from fat. There are three grams total fat, zero each saturated and trans fat, zero cholesterol, 15 mg. sodium, 100 mg. potassium, 39 grams total carbs,...
...
