AngiBowman says "If You Want to Trust Your Bank, Stay Away from US Bank " about US Bank

There's only one word that can describe US Bank - greed.

Our experience with US Bank began in 2006, when we made the switch about our old bank, UMB, decided to have a computer malfunction for a few days when we couldn't touch our money. To make matters worse, their customer service lines weren't open 24/7. After this, we made the switch.

At first it was fine. You get free checks (initially) and a free debit card, fully customized of course. There are branches anywhere, meaning that when we made the move to our new neighborhood about 20 miles away from our first home, we easily found a branch. There was even a branch that was open on Sundays in a Price Chopper down the road.

Then we overdrafted. I understand that it was our fault - I'm not denying that. However, let's say I had $30 in my account, bought a new book for $35 and cashed a check all on the same day. Guess what? They would consider that $35 through and put a $38 overdraft fee on it, even though we had just cashed a check.

Okay,...
...

candysglassesrock says "They are THEIVES, you'll be sorry you ever banked with them!" about US Bank

US BANK closed our account after one day of a negative overdraft balance. I went in and talked with a banker to find out what happened and come to find out that they closed it because I have another account, that they messed up and had closed, that I am fighting to get cleared.

So after talking to the banker and the branch Manager we had it reopened, paid the past due balance, and was told all would be ok as of Monday. Mind you I have my 6 mo old baby with me and its pouring raining outside, so this was a HUGE inconvenience to me!! And one that I do not wish upon anyone...and do you think they would offer to refund one of the over drafts or the fee they charged us to close the account....NO!

So, the account is reopened and they said the cash money would take at least 24 hrs to post to the account because their systems take 24 hrs to update...fine...I'll just keep an eye on it. So I check on Monday.....nothing. I check on Tueday.....still not there.....My husband goes to use his debit......

They have been good to me. I have had a US Bank savings account for 10 years and a checking and credit card for about 5 years. I have accidently over drafted my account a couple times and they have always been good about reversing the fees.

When my credit card number was stolen, they were quick to refund the amount, and to send me a new card.

The only negative thing I can say is that they always deny my auto loan requests, eventhough they were quick to give me a credit card with a larger limit.
...

Honesty22 says "if you want to be drowned in overdraft fees " about US Bank

You can trust what I am saying as a previous employee at U.S. Bank. They get you on so many ridiculous overdraft charges... I mean I just worked there but I felt guilty for all the customers paying large amounts for something so small... A 37.50 overdraft charge plus 8.00 a day... And there were a few instances where they charged customers and I couldnt find the cause.

Also they have promotions where they offer $75.00 to open a new checking account which requires you to use your debit card... This is there way of making the feature look good but they plan to get it all back in overdraft fees.

And let me tell you... I've worked in the banking industry for about 7+ years, and without comparison U.S. Bank is the worst employer I have ever had. They treated me so badly, just used me and kept feeding B.S. I never got compensated for anything that was out of pocket which I was supposed to get. And they worked me to the bone, had me work overtime and sometimes didnt want me to record the time....
...

Not only did their sales rep LIE to me about what I could do with an equity line, but now I've learned that the only thing I can do online is LOOK at my account. Can't pay it, can't pay from it. Total waste of my credit. It's been this way for nearly a year and all the internet people can tell you is 'sorry,' that's the way our system is. Avoid US Bank. Go someplace where their system and service is up to speed and in line with 2009 technology!...

Plain and simple this bank is run by a bunch of thieves. Very shady and mysterious overdraft fees and innacurate online banking. I really hope someone is investigating their practices. Do a search on the web and you will find hundreds of complaints from people that got scammed by US Bank. They are not just another bad bank they are an evil institute that is messing with their account holders lives. I am absolutely serious. Avoid this bank....

Joelbob1000 says "They have terrible customer service. Especially Joplin Mo branch" about US Bank

So I always thought that available balance meant that you had that much available. Not at US Bank. I had a that they appeared to clear and showed up as an available balance until 10 days later when my account suddenly showed up negative. I was sure that this was wrong so I went in to see what had happened. I guess that when I was doing my banking I forgot to sign the back of my check. Why I never got a call about this I am not sure. Instead they didn't contact me at all and every purchase from the time I deposited the check to now (11 days later) has got an overdraft charge on it in excess of 200 dollars in overdrafts and no contact at all. What ever happened to customer service. According to the people I have talked to about this customer service never existed at US Bank....

They charge overdraft before the amount is even posted on line. Even though my balance never dropped below 0, they charged a $35 overdraft charge because they said if it had been posted my account would have been $1.20 in the negative. Even the bank manager would not budge on this. We have banked with US bank for a long time, their customer service is getting worst and we will be moving to another bank. They are rude, inflexible and do not value their customers. Look somewhere else....

I have had really good experiences with my checking account I hold with US Bank.

I recieved free checks and debit card when I created the account and have free online banking with it. They've even waived some overdraft fees for me from time to time.

I have had nothing but good experiences with the employees at all the branches I have been to. My ex banks with a competitor and the tellers mess up so often on his transactions but I have never had a teller be anything but efficient and friendly at US Bank. Added bonus, they have a policy evidently not to give cash back when you make a deposit and are overdrawn but they have waived it for me every time.

Also, since it is a large bank I can find an ATM anywhere if I need it in addition to branches being convenient to both homes I've lived at since I've been with them and convenient to the location I work at (all within walking distance).

However, the Visa credit card I had through them gave me trouble. I started having financial trouble and got......

I have been with US Bank for over a year now. There are definite good and bad things; however, some of their methods are a little questionable. The one huge issue I have with them is that they process their debits before their credits each night. So if you deposit a check into your account on Saturday, on Monday they will process everything else first before they deposit your check. That left me overdrawn and they wouldn't do anything about it. They basically do that so they can get as many fees as possible. Not cool in my book personally....

customer since 2000. credit card number was stolen. usbank ended up honoring all the charges because some of the receipts were unsigned - yes - unsigned and those that were signed, they admitted was nothing like my signature. despite this fact, and my witness and my police report, they decided that they should honor all the charges but give me a $10 refund as a courtesy!

After Hurricane Katrine they were difficult to deal with nasty and rude. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. With all the frustration after the storm with tring to find honest contractors and working and living in an apartment while having to work on my house myself, only one time I recieved 1 common sense solution from a manager which I almost had to beg for. Stay away from this company. I did not choose them they bought my mortgage from a broker. So be sure you know who is buying your mortgage. If they were in my area I would have paid them a visit and probably would have been arrested for the first time, because I would have gladly committed assault on one of those smug disgusting jackasses. ...

When times run short and you think Us Bank will help you well think again. When you a short a little this bank wants to run you into the ground. When I ran short because something happened and I was scammed Us Bank basically said it is your fault and we will not help you. I have gone into the negative because of this and they want to charge me for getting into the negative when one of their associates told me i was in the clear and not to worry about it they didn't have much sympathy and said it was my fault and I have to fix it. After they put me into the negative becaue i did nothave the money to cover it....they charged me for going into the negative and for being in the negative more than 4 days. Knowing that i was not able to cover what they took out....
