At first I didn't like this company but eventually I grew to like the fact that this company is very straight forward they show you the minuets that you have used and that you have remaining right there on the screen, so that you cant go over any minuets and you always know how many that you have. The only suggestion that I have for this company is that they get with the program and offer something free, like free nights and weekends or free mobile to mobile. I didn't like some of the coverage either, in some areas I had an echo in the cell phone although it could have just been the LG phone that I was using. The company offers very reasonably priced phone at lots of locations so it is easy to find and purchase a phone. I do have another suggestion for the company and it is that if you are going to offer your services at Dollar stores then you should offer lower priced minuets like offer a ten dollar card other than that Tracfone is great.

I went to a site called SafeLink.com and signed up for a free Tracfone. This project of free cell phones for the disabled and low income provides a great service to those less fortunate or on a limited income. I got my free phone and i get 65 free minutes each month. If i need or want additional minutes i go to the store and buy them. I don't ever get any additional minutes. I only use the phone for emergencies and small conversations while on the road. I commend Tracfone for doing this project. I am a very basic user when it comes to phones and this is as basic as it gets. I recommend these phones to children too. They are not overly expensive ( so if the child loses or breaks it you are not out 2 to 300 dollars) and are very user friendly.

I like using a Tracfone because there is no recurring monthly bill, and the cost of using it is far below other cellular services. The reception is equivolent to other companies as well (no better, no worse). The only exception is now that I have OnStar in my vehicle, I find that OnStar still works in the dead areas that my Tracfone cannot pick up. What I don't like about the Tracfone is that it's a boring phone with boring ringtones. But, I bought it for emergencies only, so basically it is all I need. The battery strength is very good. But that depends on how you use your phone. I leave my off unless I need to make a call. I can go over a month on a single charge. I find 3-4 calls will require a charge, but it charges quickly. I also wish it was bluetooth enabled, especially so I could use it in my new car (that has special controls built-into it for such a phone). Still, I don't want a monthly bill. So, I don't know what the perfect option...

I Bought a Tracfone last year from wal-mart, got home, went online to activate, said it was good to go. Tried calling the number I was supposed to have and got someone else's voicemail. Went back on the site, and literally every 5 minutes on the site it would say there is a problem with your phone, type in these several extremely long codes into your phone to resolve it. Well, needless to say it wasn't working that night. Next day called Customer service, I've never heard such lack of knowledge and incompetence in my life. After spending over an hour on the phone with the woman of her walking me through steps that acommplished absolutely nothing (more long codes and her trying to convince me I wasn't getting enough signal... I could call out with it just fine, i just couldn't receive any calls because it was going to the other person's voicemail) I asked them about if the number could be changed because that's what I believed the problem was and they said yes but we'll have to mail you......

The one star is for Tracfone's customer service. I moved from one state to another making it necessary to change the phone number on my Tracfone so I would no longer be roaming. I called in, they deactivated the phone and reactivated it so the computer system would assign its new number. The new number would not work. They deactivated the phone then reactivated it again. The computer system assigned a new number, but somewhere in the process the computer system crapped and now the phone will not send or receive anything.

A ticket was issued and I was told to check back in 24-48 hours. That was 8 days ago and again, today, I was told it would be 24-48 hours. For this I was on the phone with them an hour and 20 minutes, pushing codes into the phone - again.

Tracfone works fine as long as you don't ever plan on moving or needing any customer service. If you do either, you are screwed and there isn't a thing you can do about it.

I love the concept of Tracfone and have enjoyed its convenience for years. However, you should know that web services do not work as advertised. You can't, for example, buy airtime online even though they say you can. You will get this message if you try:

"Error 500--Internal Server Error From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1: 10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request."

If you write to their online customer service, you get this generic response: "If you are experiencing difficulties purchasing airtime, please contact our customer care department at 1-800-867-7183. For your convenience, our representatives are available Monday-Sunday from 8:00 AM to 9:45 PM EST."

Bottom Line: Add airtime on your phone instead of expecting the online service to work OR don't choose Tracfone. It is disappointing that they cannot maintain a functional website. And, worse, that they cannot admit there are......

My family has been using various models of Tracfone for years. Yes, it is much less expensive and there are no service contracts than other cellular services. However, Tracfone is the worst when it comes to customer service. The 1-800 number you call for Tracfone is in the Philippines and not very many representatives speak English very well. I had three inactive phones that I wanted to reactivate. I purchased three 60-minute airtime pins on their web site and discovered that they combined them all into one 180-minute pin. I called to explain the problem. They willingly walked me through the process of reactivating 2 of the 3 phones with 60 minutes each. However the third phone needed a new part (SIM card), which had to be mailed. They informed me that once the new part arrived to call them and they would then be able to reactivate the phone. In the meantime, the number two phone would not work. I called them about it and they walked me through the process of getting it working again. When......

To the Point

My mom just wasn't using her cell phone so we canceled her service. Then she found herself one day without a phone. It was unplugged (don't ask!). I decided to buy her the Tracfone which my aunt also has and likes. This is a pay as you talk phone and perfect for my mom. I think it is perfect for young children who are not old enough to want to chat with their friends but want to call you for a ride or you want to find out when they will be done with soccer.

A Closer View

I bought the Tracfone at CVS for $10.00. I then bought a card which you will see in whatever store in which you go. The cards are for various amounts of time. I started out with a $20.00 card for 60 minutes. At the time my mom didn't quite understand and spent ½ hour on this phone!!

Yesterday I bought another card and got her another 60 minutes. It's great just for her to have so I can call her if she isn't in her room and vice versa.

Good for an "emergency" phone where you make calls out, but don't get calls in. Also good for making long distance calls out - to avoid paying for long distance service at home.

To use it regularly, you should buy the double-minutes for life card, and purchase online (and get the extra minutes) and drop your per-minute costs to around 10 cents per minute.

Net10 is similar, but has a higher cost of entry (around $30-40 for the phone versus around $10-15 for a Tracfone), and a less complex pricing structure of 10 cents a minute. So if you intend to use it for incoming and outgoing calls, Net10 is less hassle.

With disciplined regular use, I got my monthly usage to below $30 a month. One month, I went to $40 a month. If I hit $40 a month for another month, I'd switch to a contract phone or get MetroPCS, which is $35 a month with no contract and unlimited talking.

Between $30 and $50 a month is a gray area, really, where there are a lot of potential options. At $50 a month, though,......

I used to think "I don't want a cell phone, I don't need to be in constant contact with everyone I know." Then I started thinking "What if I got lost while driving or popped a tire or plowed into a snowbank?" So, I broke down and spent fifteen bucks on something called a tracfone. Now I'm really starting to like it. I can call my Mom to check up on her and see how she's doing while I'm at work, well on break. I feel good about my little pink Tracfone!

I like that I don't need a plan or monthly bill to use this phone. So far I have not spent much money on calling cards because I don't use it much. I haven't had any problems with reception yet. It's very easy to use and if I have any questions I can ask anyone that has a cell phone and they can answer my questions. I would recommend this phone to anyone that wants an emergency cell phone or only makes occasional calls.

I own the Tracfone. It is very easy to use, but does not have much for extras. It is not internet accessible and you cannot download new ringtones. The original ringtones are pretty boring and annoying. The cost of minutes is really good though....

i am reveiwing the tracfone they are great my son and i have one and when he goes to hes fathers for the weekend its a great way to keep in touch we text one another all weekend plus he fells great the we have givein him the responsablity of having one he is 10 years old thanks for tracfones again they are great and are cheaper then moast plans!...

I am on my third TracFone...

I had purchased this phone via their website. The first phone that I had received ... did not work. So after being on the phone with them 1 1/2 hours... the decided that they would replace me with a another one... which was refurbished!

Guess what? This one did not work either! Then they decided ...after a little over 2 hours on the phone with them... the decided to mail me a third... And surprise... this one does not work either! After being on the phone with them for a little over a 1/2 hour with them today, they told me that I would not get my money back and I will not get another exchange.

So here I am out over $50, over 3 hours of my time and I do not have a phone... As for my 2 cents... stay away from this train wreck!...

We have had a Tracfone for several years and were very happy with the plan since we only wanted it for "on the road" calling and brief messages. Lately, however, we have been very disappointed in the service....we simply don't get any service! As soon as we are more than 50 miles from home we get a message that says"searching for network" and it never does find a network. This has happened in areas where we know there is service available (like the Minneapolis airport area). I called from home to discuss the problem and was told to call back when I was somewhere where I was not getting service, so I did that and they still could not figure out the problem and I was told to call back again some time...well, I travel a lot and its very inconvenient to have to find a pay phone (land line) to make a half hour+ phone call. And meanwhile I am on the road without any service. Recently I traveled from Minneapolis to Milwaukee and had no service all the way, had sporatic service just north......
