I don't kno much about the product because I never even recieved it. In my opinion the tomato planter is a waste of money and when I tried to cancel my order the company gave me the run around for two months and ball faced lied to me. First the said you have to wait for it to be delivered and refuse it and once they recieve it then you get your refund. Then they began to Say that they never recieved the planter, mind you it had been over two weeks since the refusal. So we kept calling and calling and finally out of the blue some how miraculously they find that we returned it and then said they had wired the money back into my account on the first of this month which they have not,yet another lie. Every time I call it seems to be a different story. I still dont have my full refund and on top of that they are trying to charge me $38 for shipping and handling for something i never recieved. So i advise all who read this not to purchase anything from this company.
...

The Topsy Turvey planter was a birthday gift to me from my parents (yes...I asked for it). I live in the city where I have no yard to grow my own veggies. I was hoping this might be a solution that would allow me to grow tomatoes and not take up much space. The fact it hangs was appealing to me so rodents wouldn't get in my plants (the joys of living in the city). When I put my tomato plant in it started growing like crazy over the first few weeks. Although it got big in size, I was disappointed to see that I was not getting any tomatoes other than one that was on the plant when I bought it! Granted, I am thinking now I could have watered it a bit more and maybe fertalizer would have helped, but I still was hopeful. At this point I have eaten one tomato off the plant (yummy!) and I have three small ones slowly growing. I am going to try to plant earlier next year and maybe try some red peppers too. Very cool idea, but I might need to modify next year.
...

I purchased three of the Topsey Turvery planters this season. I like the idea of using the space saving design to get more use of my garden space. I started many varieties of tomatoes from seed for both the garden and the Tospey Turveys. To date the Topsey tomatoes have yet to produce any blooms, where the exact same plants in the garden are already producing fruit. In addition the plants in the Topsey Turvey are growing up the sides of the unit instead of upside down. I'd estimate my Topsey tomatoes to be about 8 to 10 inches in height where my garden grown tomatoes of the same varieties, started from the same seeds, with the same soil (container mix since I square foot garden), at the exact same time are approximately 3 ft in height and like I mentioned before already producing edible fruit. I do not recommend this product and will be selling 3 cheaply on Craigslist as soon as these plants die or finally produce fruit - if they ever do.
...

I bought a couple topsy turvey planters because I thought it would be fun to watch them on my front porch. Have had a large garden but now just grow a couple pots of tomatoes. Very dissapointing results. The TTs need water every day, not every 2 or 3 days as in a pot. All the tomatoes in both TTs have brown areas on the bottom of the tomatoes. My digital cameras won't do closeups and my film camera was orphaned by Kodak last week. Imagine cutting a tomato in half and seeing the cut area as brown tomato skin. Two varieties of tomatoes have the same problem. Will probably throw the things in the trash.

We purchased 2 of the planters and 2 different plants, both plants have died... This last set did last longer and actually got some tomatoes but they were rotten from the inside out.

The plants DON'T look anything like the commercial because the leaves have all tried to turn around to get the sun and the plant is curving to grow the correct vertical way. So my poor plants have really struggled with this upside down thing.

I don't recommend this item! Again awesome ideal but not working....
...

The Topsy Turvy is not working for me. I have tried 2 sets of plants in two different locations and they both died in a week. Maybe i put to much water, maybe their is not enough sun....whichever the case, this is to much to worry about for stupid tomatos. I purchased this to avoid going to the garden. With all the issues i'm having with this heavy crap, Gardening is MUCH easier.
...

K9MomX5 says "Topsy Turvy Failure...Is the Center Foam Piece to Blame??" about Topsy Turvy Upside - Down Tomato Planter

Two of my four tomato plants in my Topsy Turvy have already died. They were planted three weeks ago. I used plain potting soil and added “Tomato Tone” fertilizer to it. This organic food came highly recommended to me and has great reviews on the Internet. The potting soil I used was already relatively damp when it was inside the bag. Therefore, I did not add a lot of water. I have noticed that the foam in the center of the planter stays wet all the time, stays dark in color, and continually drips onto the plants. It has a smell to it. The instructions say you cannot overwater, but I have to wonder if the continually-dripping water on young plants is good for them. The leaves on the plants became yellowish with spots on them. I purchased a fungicide and sprayed the plants. The spray seems to have saved two of the four. But, they are not doing great. ## I also have a sweet bell pepper plant in one planter, and it seems to be doing fine. The foam piece in it has a lesser drip, does not...
...

5/2/09I have had so many ask me if I will use the Topsy Turvy tomato planter this year and so I caved and bought one at Walgreen's for $9.99. Contains one Topsy Turvy and directions.

To set it straight I am iffy on this product, but out of fairness and loving to garden I will be putting it to the test in my garden this year. I thought I would take the reader along for this garden season. So please come back because I will be updating this review as I go along to share my adventure of the Topsy Turvy with pictures.

I am iffy because of the weight of the tomato plant with fruits. Why? I just feel that sucker is going to pull right out of the planter when it gets heavy, but hoping it does work because it is a nice space saver.

Lest get started:

I first went to buy a Sheppard's hook to stick into the ground.

Very simple to get it going.

Take off the two top covers.

Pull out the thick slit sponge at the bottom.

Slip your tomato plant into the sponge.

Carefully slide your tomato plant...

...

I purchased two topsy turver planters from the internet and used them this past summer. The reason I bought these is because I live in a condo and only have a porch as a garden. The floor of my porch is filled with colorful flowers, so using a topsy turvey seemed like the perfect solution for growing vegetables. Once I received it I found the topsy turvey easy to assemble. However it required a lot more dirt than I expected. I put two tomato plants in one and two cucumber plants in the other. I recommend having two people available when it comes time to hang the planters as they are very heavy.

Unfortunatly my cucumbers and tomatos did not grow very well but I think it had more to do with the sun light and how much I watered it rather than the planter itself.

I'd recomend these planters, however be forewarned they are not the most aesthetically pleasing piece of decoration. My mom has used normal hanging baskets with moss in the past, and just cut holes for the tomatos to...
...

This grower is amazing. I really didn't think it would work, but in a very short time my pepper and tomato plants are flourishing. It's worth every penny, although I would say it would be fairly easy to build one of your own. Also, this thing gets very heavy, so be sure to put it where you are going to keep it because it's really heavy with soil.
...
