First off I own a moving company and have 7GPS systems. I usually only buy Magellan, but the Tom Tom caught my eye due to price. Mind you I buy 5 every year, we burn through them quick. I bought this piece of doo doo from Walmart for my use and my vehicle. I log in 1500 a miles a week doing deliveries for a large retail store.

The guys took my truck that day with this GPS and got lost 3 times to a move. They then had to come back and get another GPS. This was 2 hours of pay, I forked out.

I then took this piece of garbage to Florida. What a mistake, going to Universal Studios we pulled in and the GPS said we had 12 more miles to go.

1.It gave us the longest routes to take. Even when asking for shortest, or fastest route.

2.It recalculates way too slow, by that time you missed three turns and gone 5 miles out of your way.

3.To get to the written instruction screen you have to press four different pages, by then you ran off the road and killed two small children

4. And the worst of all, you must...
...

Our whole family has come to rely on our Tom Tom to get us anywhere new or to avoid traffic and construction. Overall, we really like the Tom Tom- it gets us where we need to go, it is easy to program, and we like the flexibility to see maps or a list of directions. We also love the special features, such as how close the nearest store/museum/gas station is, which we have used several times (and which has gotten us out of some tough binds!) Our biggest complaint is that the Tom Tom One does not say road names with the directions. Instead it says things like "turn right in 1/2 a mile...turn right" and it is up to us to decide which road it means. This isn't a big deal when there are two adults in the car, and one can read the road name off the screen, but it does make it difficult when you are by yourself in the car and can't quickly read the name of the road you need to turn on. I would recommend this to someone who uses a GPS casually or is just learning how to use a GPS, but I would recommend...
...

Confession time- my husband and I have no direction sense. The problem comes when he won't admit to it. We have driven for 3 hours to get home from Chicago when we live an hour away- and there was NO TRAFFIC! Anyways, last Christmas, Amazon sold the Tom Tom One for $79. I bought this for my husband, unsure of if he would like it or argue with it. He LOVED it!!!!!! Shortly after, we went to Chicago and got there in less than an hour and never got lost! We've downloaded all of our favorite places, so we know how far it is to a Starbucks or the nearest Walgreens. My husband has even proudly offered directions to OTHER people. :) The only thing that I would change is that it says to turn and what direction, but does not say the street name. You have to read it on the screen and I have bad vision. Other than that, we have had no problems with it and web sites like Mapquest are a thing of the past!
...

I LOVE my Tom Tom. Since moving to Texas I was constantly getting turned around and lost when trying to navigate the city. I finally broke down and bought myself a Tom Tom after looking at several of the different GPS Models.

The Tom Tom is easy to use for ANYONE! I have recommended it to many friends and family, and no matter what their age, they have also found it very easy to use.

The fact that you do not have to pay for the service is truly a blessing in todays market. Once a year you get a reminder to update your maps. For me that is about $78 and that is a deal in itself.

You can add other features to the unit that do cost money, but even those features are not outrageously priced and affordable.

I don't think any women (sorry guys) should be without one of these when you are going into an area you don't know, and especially when you travel. You don't have to rely on the rental agency having a car equipped with GPS, the Tom Tom is portable and you can just put it in your purse...
...

The TomTom One is a very complicated device that would not be friendly to a tech challehged person. It usually gets me to the area i need to be in but no the exact pin point location. Screen is way to small and hard to insert or type in text. I would not recommend this product to anybody, it was a waste of money and a hassle to use.
...

TomTom One

The TomTom One which we have gets us to where we need to go pretty close to the amount of time that it says. You do need to keep the road maps updated, however. Me and someone I know took a trip and had a bit of trouble due to new roads bein added but we were able to get new directions to where we were going with little to no trouble. But worth the money we spent to get it. I would spend the money again to get another if we needed one.
...

I had this and a Garmin 250W in my work truck at the same time, lets just say I hardly picked up my Garmin. The only thing I didn't like about it was its outdated maps without any updates. But the user interface is very friendly and easy to use.

the tomtom one is the easiest gps/navigation system to use. of all the gps/navigational gadgets out there, this byfar is the easiest to setup. it only takes about two minutes to type in you destination. you can also save alot of contacts so that you dont have to type them in everytime you want to go somewhere. my 77 year old grandfather, who is not very technical saavy, he has no problems using this gps/navigational device...... for the money that it costs, believe me its worth every penny.... now that my grandfather knows how to use it he will never get lost again..... he's gotten lost several times just because he was supposed to left here, but instead took a right....... i know everybody has done it before, but with the tomtom one he never has to worry about that happening again..... but seriously for the cost it is the best gps/ navigational system out there.......it comes with all the basic maps and you can buy updated maps when they come out, but theyre only a dollar or two...
...

I received a Tom Tom for Christmas last year and it has been a blessing. I believe I probably have saved as much money in gas expenses as it cost for the Tom Tom.

I get lost all the time. After I live somewhere for a while, I finally get my bearings, but it takes a while. Plus I travel quite a bit, so traveling around my house has never been an issue.

One of the coolest features on the Tom Tom is the locations along the way. During road trips with my family, we often have to stop for food, gas, or lodging. Our GPS gives us a host of options so we can plan our stops to better fit our tastes and needs.

There have been a few times that I was frustrated with the GPS. I tried using it in areas that I was familiar with and it took me a longer route than was necessary; it wasn't due to traffic, either. Plus it is not always clear about which lane to get in when I'm nearing an exit.

I have a few friends who use it for job purposes and it has made their business trips more relaxing....
...

i own a tom tom one gps. it is a good product to own if you travel alot, or for work if you drive to places you don't know. i originaly bought mine for work. i was working for a toyota dealership, delivering parts, and i had to drive to many different places in boston all day, and i didn't know the city at all. so i went to walmart and bought the tom tom one for a reasonable $175. it was the best investment i made and made my life at work so much easier. before i bought my gps, i would get lost everytime i went into boston, plus my truck would be cluttered with map quest printouts. after i bought the gps, i didn't have to spend an hour out of my work day on the computer looking up directions to each of the stops i had to make. i also did'nt have all the extra paper work thrown thru out my truck which made things easier in its self. so i recomend you go out and buy a tom tom, if you do alot of traveling in new places.
...

We are in the military and there for do a lot of traveling from place to place. When on the road with a child it is hard to read a piece of paper to know how to get from one state to another and the accidents that can cause when trying to read and read your exit. That is so bad!! With our GPS we are able to listen to it tell us when to turn and can see how far our next turn is so with it sitting on our dash there is no lookind down at a piece of paper. This has saved our lives in traveling and we dont get lost. It takes us right to where we need to go. Great item... We actually own two of them for each of our cars so that we both have one to find even local places that we are not sure where they are..

I would recommend this item to everyone!! Perfect..
...

I used my Tom Tom one on a recent trip. I took a 129 mile loop because the Tom Tom told me to turn in the wrong place. When I finally returned to my originaltion point, bought a map and passed the same turn, the second time, it did not tell me to turn at all! I do not think the device differentiates between the most commonly use routes and the most direct route. It seem to be most effective in the city areas, but I would not trust it in rural undeveloped areas. It lead me though the most uninhabitied oil fields in western Colorado. When I finally had me turn onto a dirt road in the middle of no where, I decided it was time to turn arround.

It works great to find chain hotels and resturants in populated areas. I found the nearest Olive Garden in less than a minute. It also got me to the correct Holiday Inn Express very neatly on the last trip I took it on. If you live in the West and travel the less traveled road, you wil need your atlas or map, just in case!
...
