Chinabear008 says "Not as great as in the ads!" about Tobi Steamer

I actually didn't purchase this since I wanted to try it before buying. I borrowed it from my friend who had stopped using it one week after buying it. The whole setup process was fairly simple, and getting it to work was not complicated. However, for the uses that it is advertised for, it didn't do a very good job. I attempted using it to clean and iron some drapes which it was not able to do. I used to steam clean our mattress which I am not sure it did a good job of since it didn't help make the mattress smell any better. It did a sufficient job on dress shirts but on some that were extremely creased it had quite a bit of trouble! I am not sure I would ever pay that much for a machine that doesn't live up to its promises and I promptly returned it to my friend who is still paying it off! Honestly, you'd be better off taking out that old iron and pressing everything the old way. You'd waste much less time and money, that's for sure!
...

The money I spent on a Tobi is the worst way to spend money. It is awkward to work. I did find a makeshift solution to steaming the bottom of clothes: a plastic tipped pair of tongs. The Tobi sputters water frequently, leaving streaks of water on items. The stand is junk...does not stay up when tightening the locking mechanisms. It is not easy to put away store. I thought it was just me, but after reading all of these negative reviews, I think we should collectively bring forth a class action suit. Tobi is misrepresented & overpriced. It is very difficult to use, operate, fill, maintain & store. Would recommend another buyer to shop at local stores for a better steamer.
...

I purchased the unit one year ago. I need to replace a part that broke and the Tobi refuses to let me pay for the part $14.95 unless I purchase a three year warranty for the entire unit for more money. I don't understand. I only want the part and I am willing to pay for it. Under no circumstances will they sell you the part.
...

ladywestrich says "Dangerous Junk!" about Tobi Steamer

I saw the infomercials about the Tobi and when the portable/travel size became available at my local department store I purchased one. My fiancee often has to wear a dress shirt, pants, and tie to work (and he travels for business) so I thought this would be an ideal product for us to have in our home. I hate ironing! It is such a hassle to drag out the board and heat up the iron, very time consuming. I thought this product would save me time and impress me but I was wrong! I read the entire instruction manual and proceeded to fill the Tobi with the required amount of water. I plugged it in and it heated up very quickly so I held up a heavy cotton dress shirt and began pumping the steam button, as directed in the manual...the results were comical and somewhat dangerous! Some steam did indeed come out of the machine as well as an alarming burning smell and a very hot handle, water was spitting everywhere (I mean everywhere..on me, the floor, the wall, the shirt, etc.) and the shirt almost...
...

When I saw the infomercial I thought the product would save me lots of time ironing my shirts...once I got the product, it took me the same time and even longer to do my shirts and the result wasn't even comparable to an iron...I decided to return the product and shipped it out (amazingly I was able to put everything back in their boxes) on Dec 3/08...I am still waiting for my credit...I have called numerous times their Customer Service and I cannot believe them...they continuously hang up, put you on hold for ever and give you a bunch of run arounds...THIS FEELS SO MUCH LIKE A SCAM !!! It is now Jan 20/09, a day of "Change", but one thing for sure doesn't change...the Customer Service for the Tobi Steamer !!! This company should be shut down !!!...

The hand held Tobi did not work any like I thought it would. I didn't see any of the wrinkles on my clothes go away. The only thing the Tobi did was wet my clothes with steaming hot water. I tried it several times and followed the directions but it just wouldn't work. I can't wait to take it back to the store....

JohnSmith222 says "Absolutely a Waste of Money and Time" about Tobi Steamer

I bought the TOBI a month ago, and since then-it has caused nothing but grief and pain.
The first time I tried it, I had filled up the water tank. Next, I had proceeded to bring it out to the floor and steam some clothes. (Five times faster of course!) I turn it on, only to discover a massive puddle of water all over my hardwood floor. I had put it on a table, and wiped it all up, only to discover another pool of water on my table. After doing all this cleaning, I brang it upstairs to try it out on some pillows. (With a TOWEL under it this time)

By this time, I am angry enough with the TOBI. I plug it in again and try to steam a pillow, but of course the steam doesn't come out. I figured that I had to hold it above the TOBI, as steam rises. I do this, only to have the boiling hot water drop on my hand-burning it. I have now learned that the TOBI is not only a waste of time and money, but it is a safety hazard as well.

I would never recommend this awful product to anyone.
...

Dexter says "Tobi Steamer--Don't Buy it!" about Tobi Steamer

The Tobi Steamer is extremely disappointing. It does not remove wrinkles well, and worst of all, it spits hot water onto the garment. One of their agents said their customer service line is for sales only. If you call to ask for help with the product once you have it, they can do little to help because they're not trained to troubleshot. After being on hold for a while, the agent returned to suggest that I clean the product according its manual. I did, and it continued to spit water onto the garment. It's brand new and since I only used distilled water with the unit, there shouldn't be any problems with mineral deposits. Also, it's garment stand is very rickety. Bottom line: save your money. It's not worth it.
...

It sounds good but unfortunately I found that the stand is very flimsy, it's impossible to steam the bottom of a garment, i.e. slacks, and the wrinkles don't come out like they do in the infomercial and despite following all directions, water dripped out and wet the garments. I just returned it after convincing their customer service representative that I did not want to keep trying it for another month and that I did not want a good deal on an air purifier. I am waiting for a credit to my charge....

I received this product and found that it did not put off enough steam at all. When held up to a shirt you could not see any steam come through the shirt at all. Apparently the one on TV is a different product.

This product was given to me for a Xmas gift and when I decided NOT to keep it I called the company and obtained an RMA number and shipped the product back at MY COST and was not told of any time frame for the receipt. Now a month latter I call and they advised they canceled my RMA and are shipping the product back to me.

So apparently I stuck with this Piece of CRAP.

Don’t make the same mistake STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT AS WELL AS THIS COMPANY.

...
