A few songs are good. A little different sound than some previous albums, but I would buy it again. If you are a White Stripes fan, you should appreciate the album and come to expect some variation from time to time. ...

I purchased this album after reading several really positive reviews. I was hooked after listening to it once. I love the fact that one track can be ass kickin' rock, and the next has bagpipes. The diversity of this album is astonishing, and makes for a great listening experience.
...

MattA75 says "Lots of Thump, To Go Along With Lots of Icky" about The White Stripes - Icky Thump

Very few, if any, bands have enjoyed the type of critical acclaim and commercial success in tandem that The White Stripes has over the last few years. Critically, they are almost universally praised, mostly thanks to Jack White's mad scientist like guitar-work and songwriting. Commercially, they've had several hits in recent years, including, but not limited to Seven Nation Army, My Doorbell, and their 2002 breakthrough Fell In Love With a Girl.

Earlier this year, the Stripes released their sixth album, titled Icky Thump. As usual, the record received it's usual critical acclaim, and it didn't bomb commercially either, debuting at #2 on the US Charts with over 220,000 copies sold in it's first week. But sometimes, you see, critics and music fans can be wrong, and sadly, Icky Thump is one of those times.

It's not that I dislike the record. It's more than I expect more out of Jack White and his ex wife Meg (drums). Their last album, 2005's Get Behind Me Satan, was an exciting...
...

runnin262 says "One of the best I've heard in awhile" about The White Stripes - Icky Thump

A genuinely brilliant, mature, extraordinary CD. Constantly interesting on many levels, great variety, always engaging. The songwriting is very strong and truly inventive, both musically and lyrically; the performances are consummate

There is a diversity here and good vocals can be found throughout. "St. Andrew" is kind of the reprise of the finger-pick "Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn," but that's a track that's more spoken than sung. Both tracks go complete with bagpipes. -- unheard of on the previous five records! The latter mentioned track goes nicely for those who like something in the "Little Ghost" vein.

For me, other highlights are an amazing cover of "Conquest" which even has a siren/toy machine gun-esque bridge. I really like the chorus of "I'm Slowly Turning Into You." "Effect and Cause" shows that Jack White still has the lyricism in him. This is the sound of rejuvenation; it's like they really had a mojo workin' on this record. It's intense fun and just about anything you've...
...
