This was supposed to be based on a true story. I found out that it was based simply on the fact that someone showed up at a house looking for someone that didn't live there, that's it. The Strangers was horribly predictable and completely boring.
...

This was a predicting movie. You knew hat was going to happen and when.It was a dumb movie it all could have been avoided. One thing i can't stand is a predictive movie. I feel that a three yr. old can tell you that it could have been avoided. The Strangers movie was a not so shocking but kind of gruesome movie. I don't recommend it to a minor....

I literally left the theater shaking. I haven't seen many good horror movies here recently, but this is a must see for horror finatics. Everything was very well put together and it was all believable. Not that far-from-home "That will never happen to me" sort of movie. This movie takes it right to your livingroom so when it's over, you're jumping at every sound....

Ok, I'm all about delaying the demise of my characters in a horror movie but this was a little ridiculous. The idea of the movie was chilling. The director just didn't convince me once I started watching it though. Some of the scenes were prolonged way too long. And when most of the world faced with that situation would have figured out something a little better than screaming, (Just for self-preservation and all.) They were crouched behind a couch or in a closet somewhere.

Towards the end they did fight a bit but at that point I was ready for them to die and the credits to start rolling.

This movie had so much potential it's not even funny. I was disappointed in more ways than one.
...

jasyjen says "A true terror movie without all the gore." about The Strangers

WOW!! This movie scared the pants off of me! I love a scary movie, but find most of them are pretty predictable and aren't really scary. Usually when a movie is supposed to be sary, it's more gory than anything and I don't enjoy it. Rarely is a true "terror" movie made; one that has you on the edge of your seat, terrified at what you are watching. But The Strangers is unique because it really has the viewer afraid for the characters in the movie, and it's done in a way where there's hardly any actual violence shown.

I wont give the movie away, but I'll give you the idea behind it. A couple has taken a romantic weekend away to an isolated home. There aren't any other homes around. At 4:00am, a strange woman begins knocking on the door. This alerts the couple to something "not quiet right", and the unsettling feelings begin. The knocking becomes louder, more frequent, and all over the house which tells us that this girl is not alone. There are more people involved.

Eventually...
...

ddaniel says "Misleading" about The Strangers

This movie advertises that it is inspired by true events. After wasting 1 hr and 20 min of my time watching I was uncertain of what was the true event. I went online to research thinking maybe I just wasn't getting the point to the movie. This is when I discovered that the true event happened to the director in 1969 when he was a boy. Some people knocked on his door and asked if a certain person lived there. It turned out if you weren't home in the neighborhood that night you got robbed. There were no killings or torture. His inspiration for the horror part is Helter Skelter. The films production budget was only 9,000,000.00 and you can tell. In an interview with the director Bryan Bertino he stated he was impressed with the theories that were circulating about what the true event could be. Again misleading! If I hadn't seen the advertisement for the based on true event I would not of had a disire to watch the movie. I could of waited until it was on cable and watched late one...
...

Not as much a horror movie as a thriller that scares you into never wanting to stay at a vacation home, look out the window or answer the door. The Strangers kept me on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Slight amount of gore in there but mostly heart stopping scenes that make you jump. The creepy factor in the masks that the stalkers wear will give you nightmares. Made even more disturbing the fact that this is based on actual events. All in all one of the best movies I have seen in a long time
...

*****If you HAVE NOT seen the movie yet and don't want to read any spoilers, DO NOT read this*****

Since I've gotten older, and my trick or treating days are over :( my favorite way to spend Halloween night is to bundle up on the couch and watch a scary movie. This year was no different, an it was a great one! Actually, it might just be the best scary movie I've ever seen, at least in a very long time!!!

The film opens with the following narration:
“ What you are about to see is inspired by true events. According to the FBI there are an estimated 1.4 million violent crimes in America each year. On the night of February 11, 2005 Kristen McKay and James Hoyt went to a friend's wedding reception and then returned to the Hoyt family's summer home. The brutal events that took place there are still not entirely known. ”The young couple, played by Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, are upset because he apparently proposed to her her, but, she turned him down. It's around 4 am, they are alone in......

If your idea of a good movie is to watch the characters run or crawl for their lives while the bad guys are two steps behind them then this is the movie for you. I was so excited to watch this movie and then was disapointed with the whole plot. I like action with my horror flicks! Not a great movie. It was a waste of my 2hrs. with my husband. ...

This Movie hooks you by being mysterious. But trust me the only thing about The Strangers is the will power to sit and wait for it to get better which it didn't. This is quite possibly the worst suspense film i've seen and I've seen alot.

So the reality is that violent crimes are committed over the us and sometimes never solved WOW!!!! did they have to make a movie to get that point across.

I beg of you don't even waste a free rental to see this. You will regret it.
...

I went and saw The Strangers in the theater, and I really liked it until the end. The ending didn't really make sense, and I still can't figure out why they never showed the murderers' faces and all that. I would recommend it, but you will be really disappointed by the ending....

I have seen worse movies. I must have, I just can't think of any. This movie starts off slow, and wanders off somewhere to die. The characters are not interesting, and you really don't care if any of them die. The male is a whimpering puppy, and the female is not really worth saving. I have forgotten their names in the week since I've seen this pig of a movie. This is the first movie that I have walked out midway through. I wish I knew where to get a refund.
...

After seeing a terrible movie during my vacation, I had to come back home and see something else!!

I found a good thriller called The Strangers - at the recommendation of my mother. Finally, a movie that she didn't fall asleep during!!! Yay!!!

The Strangers is a home-invasion thriller!!! This film begins with a bloody preview of the ending before flashing back to the horrors that precede it. One of the most suspenseful films I've seen in a long time. A young couple (played by Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman - both good on screen together) arrive at his family's country getaway after a friend's wedding. While at a very tense crossroad in their relationship, the couple is interrupted by an "innocent" knock at the door. Soon after-wards the horrifying story quickly reveals an evil threesome. The intruders bang on the door and manifest as masked, blurred shapes behind the unwitting lovers. Even as the campaign of terror escalates, the movie remains believable, smartly maintaining its...
...
