Tue, 27 Nov 2007 05:28:51 GMT http://www.viewpoints.com/The-Sandlot-1993-review-bfb31 irehsheri 5 http://www.viewpoints.com/The-Sandlot-1993-review-3c7e <p>Here's an under-rated litlte gem of a movie that the whole family will enjoy.   </p><p>Imagine if  Jean Shepherd (who wrote the stories that A Christmas Story was based on)  wrote a story about a group of young boys who play pick-up baseball in a field.</p><p>The simple premise is the basis for a whole series of comic misadventures involving the kids who just want to play baseball as much as possible in the sandlot.</p><p>Young Scotty is new the neighborhood, trying to make friends and organizes a baseball game even though he knows very little about playing baseball.  There's friendly Benny, the obnoxious chubby Ham  and Squints a wanna-be ladies man.</p><p>Scotty winds up using a Babe Ruth autographed baseball and wouldn't you know it... the baseball eating junkyard dog owned by  James Earl Jones  get the ball and the kids have to devise a plan to get it back.</p><p>It all takes place in 1962 with nice period details and soundtrack.</p><p>4 1/2  stars for this little gem.. rounded up to 5.     Don't miss it.</p><p><strong>The Sandlot...</strong></p>...
