All families should have this film in their library and watch it at least once a year! It has something for everyone, improves your kid's vocabulary and will keep them interested from the first scene. It has a wonderful cast of comedic actors that are unrivaled and was directed by Rob Reiner, Carl Reiner's son. Here's the plot:

When a young boy falls ill, his grandfather pops round to visit him. To cheer his grandson up, Grandpa has brought a storybook; The Princess Bride, a tale of the love between the beautiful Buttercup and the besotted Westley, a love cruelly interrupted by Westley's tragic apparent death at sea when seeking his fortune. Heartbroken, Buttercup has sworn never to love again, but accepts the marriage proposal of the rich and handsome Prince Humperdinck, heir to the throne of Florin; but death is no barrier to true love, and in a story filled with exotically-accented swordsmen, big-hearted giants, genius kidnappers, sadistic torturers, vile swamps, Rodents of...
...

This has to be one of the best movies ever. The humor and irony are terrific. The tag lines are universal. I went to a graduation and a valedictorian who went on to Harvard used it as their framework for their speech. Quality work!...

When this movie came out I was 12. I saw it twice in the theater, which considering I go to maybe one movie a year, is remarkable. I've watched in many times since. The only thing that seems dated now is the opening with Fred Savage as a little boy and ....Columbo...real name escaping me...as his grandpa. The quotes are memorable, the love story is sweet, the secondary characters are just as noteworthy as the leads. A great family film.

P.S. Read the book too!
...

This is a book that I read because it was assigned in a college literature class. I read it years before the movie came out. I didn't expect to like it, but I fell in love. The original book is not labeled as written by William Goldman and I thought the whole idea of the secret author situation was cool. I love the book because it was full of surprise and held my interest throughout. I love the whole happy ending good guys wins fairytale and I thought the book seemed to have something for everyone. The whole concept is unique and I believe that makes it very special....

landrew says "This film has everything one could want" about The Princess Bride 1987

This film has an all-star cast. Fred Savage went on to 'Wonder Years;' Peter falk had just done 'Columbo.' Those two actors are central to the film.

The film is funny, touching, Romantic, and filled with action. Like the movie 'Sleepers,' there are many 3rd rate actors, that will remain lower on the list of celebrities, because you can remember exactly what you've seen them in, but not their names. Regardless, cary Elwes is also in it. He does a wonderful job, but I think the real 'hats off' goes to the following three gentlemen trying their hands at acting:

-Mandy Patinkin

- Andre the Giant (RIP)

- Billy Crystal

There are parts of this film that are uproariously funny, and others that are deeply touching. Would I recommend this film to a friend? No. I'd recommend it to EVERYONE.
...

If you love Mel Brooks' movies, painful puns, and lots of fun, you will absolutely love this movie. Directed by Rob Reiner (son of Mel Brooks' former comedy partner, Carl Reiner,) this movie is a must for comedy lovers and families alike. No gratuitous sex scenes, foul language or violence makes this movie perfect for family night or date night with someone you know loves to laugh.

One complaint...no sequel!!!
...

Okay, first off the book and movie are great. I'm 22 so must of my life I can remember watching the movie. I spent my whole life thinking what a wonderful fairytale it was, then, i get the 30th anniversary edition book in there and there's all this crap about how florin city is real and there is a museum you can see there with Morgenstern's works and Fezzik's handprints and all other kinds of nonsense. Goldman even goes as far as to say he is being sued by the Morgenstern estate 13 times and they won't allow him to publish the sequel, "Buttercup's Baby." He even says they offered it to Steven King and they met in private and he says what King told him and that he can write the first chapter to see how it goes. Well, of course, stupid me, I believed it all. I think it was a mean trick to play b/c he even lies about having the book read to him as a child, giving it to his fat son, and getting divorced. well he made the whole book up himself. If you go to the library and try to......
