When I was a freshman in college - back in the mid-1980s - and still in my "rabid Stephen King fan" stage, I bought the hardcover edition of the best-selling "Master of Horror's" anthology of short stories Skeleton Crew, which not only featured stories along the lines of "Word Processor of the Gods," "Survivor Type" and "The Monkey," but showcased a novella titled The Mist, in which a cross-section of a small Maine town's population is trapped by unearthly monsters in a supermarket after a storm knocks out the electricity and a strange mist envelops the town and the surrounding countryside.

Like many of King's stories, the novella works on two levels - the visceral, creepy horror one which focuses on the surreal Boschian creatures that inhabit the mist, and the more intellectual, psycho-cultural one that examines just how fragile our civilized nature really is when, as Frank Darabont and King himself both say, the lights go out and we lose all the trappings of our modern technology-driven...

Stephen King's The Mist:

I totally enjoyed this movie. I am a big fan of Stephen King and was anxious to see if this movie would prove to be as good as his others. I was not disappointed. This movie stars sexy, Tom James (The Punisher).

A small town is taken over by a mist. This is no ordinary mist and there are things lurking in the mist that are not of this world. A group of people are trapped in a supermarket and are forced to fore-go their differences to survive.

This movie keeps your attention from beginning to end. It is definitely worth watching.

Be forewarned. The ending will surprise you.

This movie was great. To think that it was written before Alien. It had some great scenes that were extremely entertaining, but some effects were a little silly. I also felt some characters were over the top to seem realistic. The ending of the movie makes you leave with a real eerie feeling. I definitely would put this as one of the better thriller movies this year. The team of Stephen King and Frank Darabont lives on!

The movie is such a disappointment. They had the opportunity to improve on a slightly flawed but very creepy idea and instead of doing so the makers of this movie let the audience down big time. A more depressing movie I dare you to find. I love GOOD horror movies. This does not qualify....

I heard great things about this movie, however when I watched it; I was very displeased. The actors where great, but I could not seem to get past the firsst 35 minutes. I kept waiting for something great to happen and it never did. This movie is about people stuck in a grocery store and creatures from another dimension in the mist trying to get in. Honestly I never could finish the movie, to me it was boreing....

I DONT KNOW MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THIS MOVIE. I DO KNOW THAT THIS MOVIE WAS GREAT UP TILL THE ENDING I THOUGHT MAYBE THEY DIDNT THINK ABOUT THE ENDING THAT WELL. TO ME THE ENDING KILLED THE MOVIE AND MADE ME WISH THAT I WOULD NEVER HAD PAYED MONEY TO SE E THIS MOVIE. Wow, I am on the fence here. The movie was very good, and keeps you interesting. Then you come to the end and it is one of those reactions of "you have got to be kidding me." I was very dissappointed, but like I said the rest of the movie was very good. Keep in mind that Steven King always throws in the weird not so happy endings, if you keep that in mins then the ending will be appreciated....

Well I just saw Stephen King's the Mist on 2/10/08, this movie was ok but it's not great because of the fact that ending was just horrible the whole movie was so predictable but besides all that it's an ok movie would I recommened it no I wouldn't. It's just one of those movies you watch once and never watch again because of the tiny defauts....

This Film was very interesting and never was their a boring moment,although it was full of action,I expected to see more of the creatures and insects which they didnt show too much.but the bugs were very gross looking.and i just thought it soo cool though, I am waiting to buy the dvd when it comes out in the stores. excitting movie....

This is one of Stephen King's best movies to date. He anwers the age old question who will win religion or science? With his numerous plot twists and the ability to keep the viewer on the edge of their seats throughout the entire movie, he is able to tke up deep into the minds of the characters as well as himself. I would reccomend this movie to anyone who is a Stephen King fan....

i couldnt beleive after following those characters through the entire film and getting so attached i was so dissaponited that it had to end that way. BLEH!!!
I know i was expecting something psychological and Stephen King wouldnt fail on that aspect, but then I really didnt think it would go that far. some parts of the storyline were somewhat unclear and some things were left hanging....

This was a great sci-fi flick! The way everyone reacted to "The Mist" was realistic. Some wanted to stay put, some wanted to leave, some wanted to blame.... A typical dividing of the ranks! What makes a good sci-fi movie is the ability to make you believe it could really happen. That's what makes it so suspensful. I would recommend this to all my sci-fi friends!...

We all see trailers for movies and think "wow that movie is either going to be really great, or really aweful". When I first saw the trailer for THE MIST I thought it was going to be hokey and just plain poorly written. I couldn't have been more wrong.

This film deals with more than just it's immediate subject matter of "something in the mist". It strikes down deep into the bedrock of human failing. How often do we stop to think of the consequences of our actions? How often do we think that, by making this one bad choice, it will effect the course of so many other things?

Beyond that, the movie is filled with thrilling performances. Topping the list is the always fantastic Marcia Gay-Harden as a self-righeous reliegious zealot who believes that the end times have come and that God demands blood for atonement. She truly embodies what true fear does to people.

This film is not scary. It wont make you jump out of your skin. It will not provide you with screams and cheap thrills. It will, however,...

My husband and I saw The Mist after reading some wonderful reviews about it in the newspaper. I was not completely disappointed but I did expect to be scared more than I was. The movie is very Stephen King-ish...so if you like him you will like the movie. The part I liked best about it was the psychological angle regarding human behavior in stressful sitiuations. I found the ending to be very disturbing..but at the same time a good ending for a Stephen King movie. I would recommend the movie to be seen....

I am a huge Stephen King fan and have read most of Stephen King's books but have been somewhat disappointed by the movies. This movie was a wonderful surprise! I loved the movie and I was on the edge of my seat for much of the movie (which indicates a great movie for me!). The acting, the story and the setting were all great. The ending of this movie left you in awe....
