Bottom-Line: The Kite Runner takes us to a world few of us have experienced, and fewer understand. But it is still the story of us.

Afghanistan: the south-central Asian country is an enigma to most Americans, indeed most of the world. The people that inhabit this mostly barren stretch of Earth seem to live in an age far removed from modern human civilization. And yet for the last 30 years Afghanistan and its 32 million inhabitants have seemingly occupied the center of the world. And the Afghan capital of Kabul City is the setting for The Kite Runner (2007), based on the novel of the same title by Khaled Hosseini published in 2003.

I was touched and moved by The Kite Runner; it is at its very core the story of us all. Race, ethnicity and class are the forever thorns in the side of human society. We have brutalized, debased, humiliated, and killed one over the slightest differences in color, texture, and facial features since man...
...

TrishaJ says "Simply amazing" about The Kite Runner

This movie was intense, heartfelt, and full of redemption. While I did not read the book, I must say the movie was amazing (from a non-book-reader's opinion). The story was rich, the characters were well-developed and empathy for each of them came with no difficulty. This was a wonderful story with some unique twists and amazing redemption. A true "must see". My only word of caution is that there is one scene that was particularly hard to watch as it was related to child abuse. Please be warned....

The Kite Runner was an amazing movie. The film captured my heart. I read the book before I saw the movie, and was so happy to see the details of the characters and the emotion that I visualized. It allowed me to see life from a different perspective, and to appreciate the freedom we have here in America. I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone.
...

If you are looking for a movie that remains close to the book the whole way, The Kite Runner is the way to go. I read the book and loved it, then watched the movie. The movie kept many of the same lines as the book, but as always, the movie fails to do the book justice. I don't think it conveyed the emotion very well. Read the book!...

This movie helps one to embrace another culture and see a true friendship on-screen. The realities of life were present in this film but were overcome in the end. Great movie in which I would highly recommend to all....

One of the most gripping storys I've read. Its been almost a year since I read this book, but the story still remains in my mind!! The Kite Runner, author Khaled Hosseini is one of the best I've read. The story is heart wreching to say the least and I am sure you'll not put it down without a tear !! The lives of Amir and Hussain, the relationship they share when Hussain is a worker with Amir and the emotions Amir faces when he learns of Hussain being his half brother gives us a klidascope of images....

Wow! You will need the Kleenex box, because this movie has it all. The story of two small boys and their intense bond for each other will move you and warm your heart with its familiarity of childhood friendship and its childhood innocence. "The Kite Runner" chronicles the lives of two friends who grow up in war-torn Afghanistan who eventually get separated by two polar existences - one in Afghanistan and one in America. The movie's storyline, spanning beyond oceans, will leave you with a sense of sadness for the childhood innocence that can not last. But the hope that arises from dashed dreams and regrets is reconciliatory. This is a must-see movie for the whole family. It conveys the eternal bond between friends that survives the ravages of war and violence. But most of all, it conveys the eternal salvation of hope....

PatGabM2 says "Breath Taking!" about The Kite Runner

I read the Kite Runner after my 21 year old daughter recommended it. I was immediately engrossed in the book. My daughter even hosted a book signing for Barnes and Noble for Khaled Hosseini, and he signed my edition of Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. I was hesitant to see The Kite Runner, especially after reading some other reviews...they didn't stay true to the book, etc and so on. Then, too, we have the hype surrounding the Afghani boys that were in the movie and had to be relocated due to a scene in the movie.

Marc Forster did an amazing job with this movie, and anything that wasn't true to the book was subtle, and not integral to the movie. This is the plot synopsis courtesy of about.com: Hosseini's debut novel follows Amir, the son of a wealthy merchant from Kabul, who harbors guilt over a horrible event that happened to his friend Hassan. Amir eventually flees Afghanistan after the Russians invade to begin a new life in America. But Amir can't forget what happened......

Usually the book is better than the movie and goes into greater detail; characters, etc. Not so here - this movie is wonderful - one to get wrapped up in. It is so easy to sympathsize with the characters and their feelings and emotions. Even my husband, who doesn't care for subtitles as a rule, enjoyed it very much....

bkovacs says "This slow film is quite touching and ultimately joyous" about The Kite Runner

Somehow, I ended up attending The Kite Runner today, just two days after the film went into limited release in the US. Bottom line is that this is a good film and it's worth seeing. It is a beautiful story of childhood, growing up and growing away, but never forgetting. Equally as interesting to me was the historical and geopolitical background the film delivers regarding Afghanistan and -- to a lesser extent -- Pakistan.

I don't recognize any of the names involved with The Kite Runner, so I won't bore you with a list of names that you're also unlikely to recognize. However, this film was well-acted, beautifully put together and a first-rate production in every way. It's a story about two young boys, one wealthy (Amir) and one poor (Hassan), who are best friends in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1978. The two are skilled kite flyers and together ace a kite competition that is the highlight of their young lives. Their joy quickly comes to an end when Hassan is brutalized by an older bully, while......
