KarenCoker says "FRIEND LEND ME THE MOVIE A DAY LATER I WENT OUT TO BUY IT" about The Illusionist

I think it was a shockingly good film. My friend lend it to me to watch it, and a day later i just had to go out to buyu it for my collection, i absolutely loced it. Sure, At the start i had my doubtsof the film and it wasnt interestting, but it all just started piecing itself together throughout the movie, and i just kept wanting to wastch it more and more, and just when you thought you had it all covered, you realise you were being played all along. I loved it! I wasn't expecting the big twist in the film, it definitely played with my emotions, and I actually felt as much respect as Paul did when Edward was on the train back home. Acting was top class, script was brilliant, faults? I cant find many, if any. Everything was simply captured brilliantly. I also recommend this to anyone with patience and to anyone who wants to watch something worthwhile because its a great film. So watch a movie that stands apart from the rest.
...

The Illusionist. We hailed it as the best movie of the year in our home! I know it came out the same time as the Prestige (who doesn't like Christian Bale to stare at?) but that movie didn't even come close for me.
I loved Edward Norton in this movie! It was very whimsical, without being cheesey, and just enough suspense for me. You don't guess the plot easily and it keeps you guessing. The music is beautiful also!
...

My husband and I LOVED this movie. I was skeptical at first, but the plot immediately caught my attention and just when you think you know what's going to happen, you're wrong! I love a movie that isn't predicable and one that I'm willing to watch again. This one does both, only I WANT to watch it again!...

The illusionist is a treat for the eyes. The cinematography is beautiful. The story was interesting yet a little predictable. I was very entertained. Edward Norton delivered a mysterious performance and was exceptional as always. The supporting cast was entertaining. I would recommend this movie to watch however probably not to own. Once you've seen it and know the ending it would not be as interesting....

The actors did an outstanding job with the magic performed. Edward Norton, as always, gave a wonderful performance! It takes place in the 1900's and Edward plays a magician who falls in love with an upperclass woman. It's a nice love story that has you guessing along the way.

...

This was a wonderful love story! Edward Norton always gives a great performance no matter what role he plays. The set design and feeling of the movie added to the sense of mystery and intrigue. The era of the movie further adds to the beauty of the story. True love never dies as we see in this movie. It was refreshing to see a surprise ending that wasnt predictable!...

It is a bad movie; that is it. I am reviewing it only because I saw that everybody loves it. The plot is stupid, stupid, stupid. I have the impression that everything, including the music, is bad... I finished it only because I was with friends and I want to forget it....

I loved this movie from beginning to end! I bought the DVD as soon as it hit the racks!! The acting, the suspense, the surprises and the period costuming were wonderful! I especially loved the "trail" that was left behind and the reconstruction of the plot. It was like the trail of breadcrumbs left by Hansel & Gretel....

This movie was fantastic. The plot is interesting, I certainly didn't guess the ending, and loved the magic. It is better to rent or own, so you can re-review the ending and get all the bits that flash by tying it all together. Poor boy and rich girl are in love, rich family tears them apart, poor boy makes good but evil man already in line to marry rich girl, poor boy gets girl in the end. It is a more realistic, darker 'Princess Bride'....

Kasey says "Unforgetable" about The Illusionist

I rented The Illusionist at the same time as The Prestige and have to say that of the two it's much better. It's still not as good as The Count Of Monte Cristo but comes very close. In fact it's so good I could easily watch it again, which if you know me means a lot since I will almost never watch a movie more than once. In movie which takes place I believe in the early 1900's in Vienna. Eisenheim ,(Edward Norton) is a mysterious stage magician who comes from poor roots but falls in love with an upper class girl named Sophie(Jessica Biel) whom he knew from childhood. Inspector Uhl (Giamatti) is the police inspector who is out to discredit Eisenheim. He manages to play this character in a way so that you still like him even though you are rooting for Eisenheim the whole time. Crown Prince Leopold (Sewell) is an evil prince with a history of violence towards women who wants to marry Sophie to further his political career. The result is a love triangle with Giamatti's...
...

I absolutely loved this movie! The plot is amazing, the acting superb. There is no negatives about this movie. It has one of the best casts. Ed Norton isnt known to have a bad movie at all. Kudos to the person who thought to have the #1 hottest from Maxims 100 Most beautiful women. From the beginning to the end you are entranced. You want to know what is going on and the movie keeps you hooked all the way to the very end. The ending leaves you completely satisfied....

I don't usually like specific era movies set in the 1900's but this story surpasses the period and you find yourself getting past the era...the story seems timeless. I enjoy each character and how they fit into the plot. Don't miss a scene because of a bathroom break...hold it until the end because so many scenes carry important information pivotal to the plot! The ending has a good twist...

Great performances by Jessica Biel and Edward Norton.
...

Now, this may be classified as a chic flick ... but it's actually a chic flick that the hubby can / will love as well. This is one of those movies that both of us have now watched twice as it was so engaging to watch the first time that I had to see if I missed anything.

There's a new movie out with Edward Norton that looks every bit as engaging as this one.

This one is a high recommend for those of you who appreciate great acting and a good story that's a bit magical. It has a bit of a twist that's interesting.

With my Eastern European heritage, I felt that this movie might have been about characters from the Austro-Hungarian empire. Overall I loved everything about it.
...

Mr----X says "The magic tricks alone are a good enough reason to see it." about The Illusionist

I hadn't seen or heard anything about The Illusionist until the day I was asked to go see it and I think I like it better that way. I had no preconceptions, no doubts, no expectations for the movie. But even if I did have expectations for it, I guarantee they would have been exceeded.

Plot: In Vienna at the turn of the century, Eisenheim(Edward Norton), an accomplished magician, uses his abilities to catch the eye of the beautiful Sophie(Jessica Biel). The only problem is Sophie is engaged to the Crown Prince(Rufus Sewell). Eisenheim must find a way to capture her heart.

Edward Norton is magnificent in The Illusionist, along with Jessica Biel, Rufus Sewell, and Paul Giamatti who all put in spectacular performances. The story is so captivating you'll forget that you're even watching a movie. Without knowing anything prior to seeing this movie, I had an open mind and was truly moved by the story. It almost seems as if something like this could have actually happened. Not only are the acting...
...
