I really enjoyed watching this movie, it is they type of movie that really gets you thinking. Nicole Kidman as always looked radiant and did a wonderful job as she got into her character.

This movie is one that ended with they type of ending that lets you know there is bound to be a part two, but frustrates you because it just ends. You are not sure what will happen and if there is no part two ever made, then it made for a bad ending, but if there is a part two, then you will want to see what happens next.

I would strongly recommend this movie. Enjoy and as much as I would love to tell you bits and pieces of the movie, I dont want to give anything away.

I waited eagerly for the movie, The Golden Compass, hoping that it would do the book justice but secretly thinking that it just wouldn't happen. As it turns out I was right. This adaptation made from the Philip Pullman novel was severly watered down as the result of churches protests. Since when does religion get to rule what goes in to a movie? This is America people, seriousl wy, this movie was TERRIBLE. If they wern't going to make a true adaptation then they should not have made the movie at all....

Nicole Kidman, Sam Elliott, Dakota Blue Richards, Daniel Craig and Eva Green play in The Golden Compass.

Plot: Lyra (Richards) travels to the far north to save her friend and the other children from the bad people who kidnapped them and try to separate them from their demons. Demons (animals) are the humans inner soul which walk and talk with their humans. If something happens to the demon it also happens to the human and vice versa.

What I thought: I really like the idea of the demons and how Lyra's demon changes forms. The demons are very fascinating to watch. I would watch it twice just to be able to watch only the demons interaction in the movie. The Golden Compass has an intriguing storyline, is very creative and has such a fascinating world. The artistry alone is incredible. There's adventure, mystery, along with a magical quality and gorgeous scenery. Kids will love this movie.

The Golden Compass was a great movie. The book was better as is with most books/movies. As a Christian I was skeptical about the movie because of all the news and drama about it while it was in theaters. But having read the book and loved it, I of course wanted to see the movie. The thing to remember is that it's only a movie. Just because you watch it doesn't mean you are supporting the atheistic viewpoint. It seems no different to me than children watching Snow White and being exposed to witchcraft.

Long before i saw this movie i was told by many of my family members not to watch it because it was a movie about kids that try to kill God. I watched to preview and saw nothing of the sort, so i wanted to watch it. I paid to watch it this weekend on On demand.

Some still say that it has a hidden message, but i didnt see it. I loved the movie and i never, ever saw anything about kids trying to kill God. It may symbolize the goverment and thier brainwashing, but i do not see how they pair that with God.

I didnt like how it ended and left off, but it does keep you wanting more. Sequel!!!!!

I watched this movie with my 2 year old and it kept his attention the whole time. He absolutely loved it. At the sametime it kept me and my husband interested as well. It seems like most family movies have forgotten how to keep the attention of all and it is so refreshing to see that this one has not.

The Golden Compass was AMAZING with the cute animals and amazing plotline. It goes from fairy tale to action, to plain-and-simple running for your life. The movie was good for kids, besides the one part where there was quite a bit of fighting. The good thing is, there wasn't any blood as far as I could tell....

This is a movie most everyone in a family will enjoy... some areas may be more sensitive to younger children (and visa versa), but approxiamtely 95% of familiy members can and will enjoy this movie.

I wasn't completely sure what I was getting myself into watching this movie. I had seen previews, and heard some of the controversy, but did not know what the exact story was. The first time I watched it I was blown away. I thought it might be along the lines of a Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter movie, and it does have similarities, but it stands on its own as a highly unique, completely unpredictable and thoroughly enjoyable tale. The actor who plays Lyra, the main character, is a very talented young actress. She draws you in to her roll as an independent, slightly rebellious, clever, adventurous young girl in this alternate universe where your soul lives outside of you in the form of an animal. She is given a golden compass that reveals the truth to her in any situation and it helps her on her travels to the north to rescue some children who have been kidnapped. Along the way she befriends an "armored bear," a group of people called the "Gyptians," and an arial (pilot). There's lots...

I went to see this with my husband after seeing the trailers. We weren't disappointed! I haven't read the books yet (though I'm intending to after seeing this film), but the plot made sense and was enjoyable. I though Nicole Kidman did an excellent portrayal. The special effects were great.

Neither of us saw any of the "anti-Christian" themes that were supposed to be so prevalent throughout the story (and we were looking for them after all the hype) so I'm a little confused about all the boycotting. If we as adults didn't see them, then I'm not too worried about my children picking them up.

It was a good fantasy story. I wouldn't take a younger child to see it, as there is violence and some parts could be frightening to a young child. But I would definitely take an older child and would recommend it to other adults who enjoy a good fantasy movie. It did seem to end too soon, but it's the first installment of a trilogy. I'm looking forward to the next segment....

Some didn't like this movie because of controversy....I thought it was fabulous. I saw it with my children and we all thought it was great. Great writing, suspense, acting...it was fun....

I recently saw the movie The Golden Compass. I took my three children and my husband with me. Now, my husband and my kids had not read the book, and I had. My youngest child had started the book and not stayed with it. I loved the book. The book was amazing.

From my perspective, the book is way better than the movie and the movie was not in sequence with the book. That being said, the movie was still good. My kids loved it and now they want to read the book!

This is a story of imagination, a parrallel universe with witches and magical polar bears. The aletheometer that only one child can read, and magical animals that are attached to us to love. It is a story of snow, and ice and wintertime magic. It suggests to the viewed that there are MANY parrallell worlds to ours with living beings.

I am not big on the cowboy Sam Elliot, he kind of takes away the magic for me. To suddenly have the southern accent show up in the middle of all of the proper british accents...
