sr says "Money cant buy the most valuable assets life has to offer" about The Game

This is one of the best action movies I have seen to date. The movie is filled with action and suspense along with the deeper message about waking up to life for the first time and letting go of control and emotional conditioning. Nicholas Van Orton was born into extreme wealth... and with that comes many expectations, emotionally conditioning and a life mapped out ahead of him. He is a wealthy, shell of a man who is numb to life expressed through emotions. Everything in Nicholas life is controlled and expected. What do you give a man who has everything that money can buy??. Well if he's your brother and money is no object, you give him the one thing he can't purchase. Another chance at life!! Eventually Nicholas completely loses his stranglehold grip on self control and is left with having to live through his emotions. This movie takes the audience through so many shocking twists and turns that even a hardcore detective like me, who can usually see the predictable outcome......

Buggheart says "Is this real, or is it The Game?" about The Game

The Game is a great movie to watch on DVD. I first saw this movie at the theatre when it came out. I was seated between my husband and our friend Len and the whole time both of them were whispering to me. "I'm lost", "who is that?", "what's going on?" They were confused and I was having a lousy time trying to explain yet keep up. So it's great to watch this on DVD so you can pause to explain or rewind.

The Game is about San Francisco banker Nick VanOrton (Michael Douglas) who is a rich, kind of uptight loner who gets an unusual birthday gift from his kooky brother Conrad (Sean Penn). The gift is a game. Not a board game, but a gift from a place called Consumer Recreation Services which creates individual life specifically created for each customer.

Nick has to undergo strange medical tests in order to participate in the game and is initially told that he cannot participate in the game, but soon after leaving the CRS office odd things begin happening to him and Nick cannot...
...

vivasuzi says "The Game will only get you the first time you watch it! (1997)" about The Game

Nicholas Van Orton is a wealthy, divorced, bitter investment banker. His brother, Conrad Van Orton is an ex-drug addict who runs with the wind. Conrad shows up on Nicholas's birthday, after years of being apart, to give him a gift from Consumer Recreation Services (CRS) to "make your life fun". Nicholas sees a CRS office one day and decides to stop in to get his "gift".

It's a game. Specifically tailored for each participant.
Nicholas decides to complete the rigorous and strange testing at CRS just in case he decides to go through with it. Before he can make up his mind, they call to tell him his application was rejected - with little explanation. However when he arrives home, the TV is talking to him and it seems the game has begun! Nicholas still doesn't know what exactly this game is, but strange things start happening almost immediately. Will he enjoy this game? Is it really a game after all??? You'll have to watch and see!!!

Actors
Michael Douglas .... Nicholas Van Orton - Nick is...
...
