I love to save money, but don't we all. One of the best ways I found to save money many years ago (when I was a single parent) was the Entertainment Book. Now, many moons later, I am older, wiser, still a parent and still using the Entertainment Book just about every week. To be honest, the only time I didn't use it was when we lived in Knoxville because there wasn't one available there.

What I like about the Entertainment Book:

easy to buy online

pays for itself in just one use

used for dining, fast food, entertainment, dry cleaning, car washes, oil changes, travel plans, hotels,

helps me find places I may not have tried without the book

helps me save money wherever I go

savings with both coupons and the card

registering my book means I can use extra printable coupons from the website

coupons grouped according to usage

coupon index in alpha and neighborhood order

What don't I like about the Entertainment Book:

that this year I don't have two of them and...

...

AngiBowman says "Save Money By NOT Buying This Book" about The Entertainment Book

On the surface, this little book looks like something you could actually use, especially if you like going out on the town or out to eat. However, the Entertainment Book proves to be fairly worthless to the average diner.

What Is It?

In short, this is a book full of deals and coupons for a myriad of services, including

* Dining
* Shopping
* Movie Tickets
* Groceries
* Services
* Travel
* Attractions
* Car Care
* Home Furnishings

It covers major cities in nearly all states and Canadian provinces. To use the savings, you either use the handy dandy savings card or simply cut out the coupon.

What do I think?

I live in Kansas City, so I can only really mention how it applies to Kansas City. Maybe other cities are different. I'm not sure. However, my experience was very sub-par. In the book, let's pretend it says something like "15 percent off at the Melting Pot." We make reservations, have fun and BOOM! no one knows how to use the darn thing so it can't be used.

This sort of situation happened...
...

So I recieved an email offer a few weeks back through MYpoints to buy the latest Entertainment book, in my case, for NW Ohio edition. This is one of the best investments that I have made all year. While my wife is unemployed, it has given us the opportunity to go out to eat with all the BOGO offers for local resturants. The shopping coupons are excellent as well. Lots of $5.00 of 20 or 30 dollar purchases at stores we actually use.

What really makes the purchase of the book great is the addition of the entertainment website. Here you can type in the store type, and a zip code and look up coupons for that area. As I travel frequently for work, this has been a very valuable website and has allowed me to save a little over $100 in the short one and one half months that I have had the book and web access.

I highly recommend buying a copy of your local Entertainment book, as it is a valuable resource for anyone. I have noticed a couple reviewers did not like the BOGO offers...just...
...

The Entertainment book is a good value. Can be bought for less on-line. However, the best use is by planning ahead or trying new restaurants. When going to have the car oil changed, check the book for coupons. Also register online for additional coupons that come via email.
...

The first time I bought an Entertainment Book was probably 3 years ago. Thinking only schools sold them for fundraisers, I skipped out on the years after. When I saw one at Blockbuster for '09 I was excited and bought one immediately.

Considering I've used 3 books for 3 different states (one was my friend's), I can verify that it is indeed a good buy. There are coupons from fast food to fine dining, events, destinations, travel and shopping as well as online printable coupons. Thankfully, their fine dining deals have gone transformed from cut-outs to a membership card so the waiter doesn't look at you the same way the grocery cashier does.

I do think that the deals have fallen short in a way. They are VERY specific to their locations, so merchants won't accept a coupon if it doesn't fall under their area. There also used to be better fast food deals such as 50% off an entree. Now you have to get at least two orders of the same food to get a discount (which my husband and I rarely do)...
...

I've been buying the Entertainment Book now for 6-7 years. the first time I saw one, I received one as a gift from a student's parent. We always thought it was a good deal because my husband and I used to go out to eat frequently, and the fast food coupons were also a good thing to have for work lunches. Now, we don't go out as much, but we've become addicted to a local ice cream parlor that has coupons and repeat savings in the book--since they put 3 coupons in the book each time I almost make money by buying it! And I get to save even more because I buy the book through MyPoints. It is true that the savings wouldn't be as great if you were a single person, but if you've got friends or family, I say go for it!...

I have been buying the annual Entertainment Book for the Chicago West area for several years and have usually got my money's worth and got a good deal by waiting a bit and buying it a couple months after publication. Also, I would buy it through MyPoints and get 500 points for the purchase. I have also discovered that this is a dynamite gift idea -- people who love to eat out and go to movies love getting Entertainment Books.

MY VIEWPOINT:

This time I didn't buy one for myself. I feel that whoever puts the Entertainment Book offers together is insensitive to the situation of "single" people. I love to eat out but only about 50% of those occasions are shared with another person. Now that I am retired, I will very often shop and "graze" on my own during the week. It used to be that some Entertainment coupons offered the option of BOGO (Buy One, Get One) or 50% off the price of one (THANK you!) Slowly but inevitably, the 50% off offers have been weeded out or done away with. ...
...

I have been buying the Entertainment Book for about 10 years now, and I don't know what I would do without it. I have lived in California, Hawaii and Virginia and have been able to get an Entertainment Book in each state. When moving to an unfamilar place, it is so helpful to have Entertainment Book coupons to rely on for great discounts and buy one get one free meals in new areas.

There are several different sections to an Entertainment Book. There's what I like to call the fancy section, which are restaurants that take the "card" form of an Entertainment Book coupon. The "card" is a card similar to a credit card, but it has numbers on the back of it that restaurants scratch off once you have used their "coupon". Then there are the "regular" restaurants. That is where you will find places like local eateries that are casual but not necessarily order at counter and take home, they are more like local treasures. Those are my favorite places to seek out because I love to...
...

I love the Entertainment Book. It's great for finding deals on resturants and movies. I can even go to McDonalds for food a few dollars less than I want. It's a great book, and I love all the deals you can recieve with it. The expiration dates are also doable, so if you plan on going out to that resturant later, there still is some time you can go. However, some Merchants no longer put deals in there anymore. And as a poor college student, I think that is a bad idea. I can no longer attend the certain events I would like to attend because they are no longer in the book. But I love this book and think anyone would enjoy it very much....

I have been a patron of the Entertainment book for many years. I was disapointed last year and this year as well. This will probably be the last year that I purchase the book. I have found that the number of restaurants/stores that issue coupons in my area dwindles each year. Also, the are quite a few of my favorite restaurants that have issued coupons for only one location in my town and it seems that all of those are NOT in my area. ...

I received my own Entertainment book as a gift this year. Normally my mom or grandma buys one for themselves. This year, I'm the lucky one to own one of these books. I never imagined how much money this book could save me!

When I got it I handed it to my boyfriend to look through to find us a place to eat dinner and save money. He looked at me like I was an alien and tossed the book in the backseat of my car. A couple of weeks later I pulled the book out again and handed it to him. This time he humored me and started looking through it. He was amazed at the things we could have already saved money on, like memberships and rewards programs. Things we could have gotten free, but had already paid for. Once he realized how valuable the book actually is, we don't go anywhere - shopping, eating, movies - until we look through the book and see if there's a coupon.

If I don't get one of these as a gift next year, I am going to buy one for sure! The little bit of money it costs...
...
