TheBard says "Another Eastwood American History Lesson Thoughtfully Told " about The Changeling

Bottom-Line: A little plodding at times Changeling is a great film.

Produced and directed by Clint Eastwood Changeling chronicles the true story Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie) a single mother whose son Walter (Gattlin Griffith) goes missing one day from their Los Angeles home in 1925.

Christine calls the police and after the mandatory 24-hour waiting period the much maligned Los Angeles Police Department starts looking for her son. They think they have found him in DeKalb, IL and Captain J.J. Jones (Jeffrey Donovan) contacts Christine with the good news. But when the boy arrives Christine insists that he is not her son...

The plot in Changeling is quite involved, too involved to detail here, sufficed to say, the script is brilliantly done and recounts in some detail the events that transpired between 1925 and 1935.

My Viewpoint

The title, Changeling, and the trailers for the movie carry with them an allusion that this was to be a science fiction film and that the events that...
...

Flamingo5000 says "Changling is atrue story that would break a mother's heart." about The Changeling

The movie Changling, starring Anglelina Jolie is an amazing true story about a young single women rising a young son on her own, after being abandon by her husband. The young mother provide a stable loving home for her son, teaching him values and "Never start a fight, but also finish it" words she herself would have follow through on one day. The mother was called into work leaving her son alone. When she returned her son was gone, after calling the police which in the 1920 were crocked and gave little concern for a missing boy. She never gave up hope and continued to hound the police for leads. She was told several months later that her son had been found! She rushed to the train to be reunited with her son, only to fine it was not him. The police convinced her to take the boy home and care for him, explaining that the months apart had changed him. She forced the police to understand her son was still missing, with records from her sons doctors and teachers, only to be tossed into a hospital...
...

jhankins says "Outstanding" about The Changeling

This movie explored every single emotion I can possibly think of. The entire 1st half of the movie had me completely frustrated and mad! I actually felt the pain and the frustration that she was going through. I usually don't like movies that are extremely long but I feel differently in this case. I don't believe they could have made this movie any shorter to keep it as good as it was. Angelina Jolie did an outstanding job capturing every single emotion that a mother would feel in her circumstance perfectly! Without ruining the movie for anyone, all I can say is this is an absolute wonderful movie. Must see for everyone!
...

Manlover says "Changeling is the beset movie I have ever seen." about The Changeling

Changeling is about a mom's forever odyssey to find her little boy who said he could take care of himself. Angie Jolie, Clint Eastwood, and the rest of the terrific cast kept me guessing and I believed them. I guess it was on the order of League of Their Own. Previously, King Kong remake was my favorite. One person or ape against the world. Who gives them the right to set themselves up as God!...

The Changeling is a great movie about a mother, played by Angelina Jolie whose son is kidnapped. The story continues as the local police find a boy who resembles her son and suggest she take him home to try. This is not her son, but he wants to be. To see how this film ends, you should go watch it.

If you missed it at the movies, may I suggest you rent it when you can.
...

VixenViewTreasures says "Very moving portrayal of a woman's struggle to find her lost son" about The Changeling

This is a true story that takes place in Los Angeles in the late 1920's. It follows a mother's desperate attempts to have the police locate her son after she finds him missing when she returns home from work. As the story unfolds police corruption becomes strongly apparent. Mrs. Collins is a woman brave enough to stand-up for what she believes despite society beliefs of the time, and she pays the consequences of defying the traditional male dominate order.

Mrs. Collins (Angelina Jolie) finds that she is first met with unhelpfulness as the Police refuse to look for her son until he is missing for 24 hours. She struggles for weeks, then months to get the police to do their job. Then, after 5 months, the police tell her that her son has been found. What happens instead is that they give her a boy that is close in appearance, but is not actually her son (a boy that it later turns out is possible they coached to identify himself as such). Even as she immediately and continually......

stef42678 says "Emotional Story" about The Changeling

I absolutely love The Changeling and found it to be truly emotional and intense, especially since it is based on a true story. I didn't know there were so many layers to the story until I watched it. The movie stars Angelina Jolie as a distraught mother who comes home to find her only son missing. Days go by and the boy is still missing until she receives the good news that her son has been found. The entire audience will suffer heartbreak when the mother so happy comes to find the boy is not hers. Her continued search for her real son Walter kept me wondering where the story was going and I had no idea of his true fate. The story not only revolves around her search for the boy, but also the scandal of the Los Angeles police and how they choose to cover up scandals from humane citizens. This story is gripping and emotional and kept me on my seat until the end....

We walked out on The Changeling, disgusted and horrified.
What a disappointment, to wait all week to go see a movie, carefully select the one you want from the descriptions and "star" ratings, then pay big bucks to go inside and get . . .
disgusted and freaked out. I don't believe in paying money to be exposed to story lines like this one, and I don't care that it's based on a true story, and I don't care that it was a popular book first. I"m a Clint Eastwood fan, but I can't believe he made this movie. And Angelina . . . what were you THINKING? Life is hard enough for your audience without our paying to be abused.

For the record: I have only walked out on 4 movies in my whole life, and I go at least once a week!!

SPOILER ALERT: READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DON"T WANT A CLUE

The Changeling is based on a true story that occured in and near L.A. in the 1930s or so.
All the reviews will tell you is that Miss Jolie plays a woman whose child disappears. What they conveniently leave...
...
