The Atkins Diet helps you lose a lot of water weight very quickly. It sets you up to gain more weight when you come off the diet. High protein diets increase the chances of developing osteoporosis. They make your body more acidic. By making your body more acidic you are making it even harder to lose weight. Your body can only handle the uric acid in 4 ounces of meat per day. More than that and you are putting a burden on your kidneys and adding uric acid crystals to your joints increasing arthritic symptoms. Choose an abundance of raw fruits and vegetables instead.
...

Patewagin says "A Way of Life...not a diet" about The Atkins Diet

Controlling your carbs is a great way to eat! The Atkins Diet is just one of the many diets out there which helps you do just that. Everything Dr. Atkins says in his books is spot on. This way of eating can change your life....and it changed mine.

My husband and I started controlling our carbs via The Atkins Diet about 5 years ago. We both lost 25 pounds each (we didn't have much to lose) and we've kept it off for years. It was really hard at first. At that time, eating low-carb was popular and there were a good number of low-carb products on the market. You could walk into any GNC and buy low-carb cereal, cheesecake, shakes, meal bars and candy. It made it easy to stick to the plan! But the hype ended and many of those products have since gone away.

We still love this way of eating. Trust me, eating eggs every morning gets old quick. So you need to be creative. Save leftovers from previous nights; eat lunchmeat and cheese roll-ups; find a good low-carb shake....
...

I have used the Atkins diet to lose weight several times but when I add carbs back into my diet, I gain the weight back and usually more. I can follow the diet for several months but it is not a lifetime change for me. I feel fruits and whole grains need to be in my diet in larger quantities than the diet allows. For a few weeks, omlettes, salads and cheese taste so good. I start losing weight immediately. I love being able to eat steak, chicken wings and blue cheese salad dressing while losing weight. I do get headaches easily when I am on this diet. After a few days, the cravings for carbs decrease. I am a carb addict so when I eat one I usually eat many. I enjoy food more when I am on this diet. I plan meals better and eat a lot less simple sugars. I also eat a lot of unhealthy foods on this diet and do not actually feel it is good for my body. I think there are many better ways to lose weight for a lifetime change.
...

A friend and I tried this product to get on a healthy eating course and we both about gagged at the taste of the food this company provides. It is hard to maintain this diet due to the taste of their food and nothing you put on the food ever compliments the food by making it taste better. The idea of a good dierrt is to actually eat good food and be able to maintain those small portions. With Atkins though, you have to keep eating because the meal you made from them you cannot eat....

I tried the Atkins diet a year ago thinking I would try it for a few weeks and fail as usual, but I found myself staying with it and really losing weight. I am a total carb addict but I also like veggies, so this was both hard and easy for me. Once I cut out the sugar and carbs and added more veggies and lean protein I had good results. The first month or so was torture because I am either a big sandwich eater or meat and potatoes eater and I usually indulged in some kind of dessert. The only thing keeping me from having a very serious weight problem was that I also kept a near religious work-out schedule of almost every day.

When I started Atkins I committed to 30 days with no cheating. After about two weeks the carb and sugar cravings tapered off and I really noticed the weight loss and my work-outs were easier. I had more energy and slept better. With those results it was easier to finish out the month and keep going. I followed the program for about four months and...
...

Very easy to follow. You do eat foods readily available, and it does work with a budget. Remember moderation is the key. You can overdo anything-even salad type foods. It works really well for diabetics. Although you will always be a diabetic, The Atkins diet may help you be able to stop or lessen the amount of meds you take. It gives you alot of energy and you truly feel well while on the program. Make sure you read through the books and info available as there are tricks and tips that really do help. There are also certain food combinations that are better than others. The Atkins books also contain tips and info on how to eat if you have certain medical conditions or problems during the program. I would definatly recommend it!!!!! As with any other diet program-let your DOCTOR know what you are doing.
...

I love the Atkins diet. My husband and I have been doing this for about five years off and on. I know how everyone hears of the horror stories but with any diet there are negative stories. We went on it and did everything it called for. The weight went off without any problems. the first two weeks is like a fasting to get off several pounds instantly. Each week we would weigh and lose one to two pounds each. This diet has been the best for me because I was eating my vegetables and cutting out my starches which I seem to thrive on but not good for the weight. I never had any trouble sticking to the diet every day. The recipes for each day were delicious and easy to fix. The meals for each day a total are easy to eat. The only problem for me was that I wasn't hungry for the evening snack so I didn't always eat it. I had to make myself eat the amounts of meats so I would weigh it and make myself eat it. When I followed the exact for my idea body weight, I lost very...
...

7 years ago, I weighed 233 pounds. I didn't eat anymore than the average thin person, in fact, I ate a lot less. I was diagnosed by my doctor with metabolic syndrome and polycystic ovaries. I was pre-diabetic and on 2 blood pressure pills and my blood pressure was still high. My step-father was losing weight on the atkins diet and gave me the book to read. I read the book and was intrigued and hopeful. I went to my doctor to ask him about the diet and did my blood work. He gave me the ok to try the diet, but told me to modify it to leaner meats and do blood work again in a month. I was losing weight pretty quickly. The first 4 days, I was hungry all the time, but just ate more meat or vegetables or a slice of cheese . After the 4th day, I never felt hungry. In fact, I had to remind myself to eat. I had detoxed from the sugar and my blood sugar levels were normal. When I went back to the doctor the next month, I was down 18 pounds, my blood pressure was normal and I was no longer...
...

Atkins is a no brainer. It works. The problem is you have to be super into it to make it last. The best diet for a quick fix, then you can allways slowly get into watching what you eat. If you are careful, you can maintain your lost weight. It is SOOOO expensive to buy food though. I allways have a huge amount of energy when I do this and I lose weight in my stomach! Definitely a bonus. I know there are gonna be people that say oh no, Atkins is a lifestyle. Well it is a sad lifestyle if you love carbs!!
...

I have been on the Atkins diet on more than one occassion and have come to the conclusion that it is just not for me. I am absolutely a lover of carbs and am probably a carb addict. The thing is, I would be happy just eating whole grain carbs and no sugar as long as i could eat the carbs. Being on the Atkins diet is just to restrictive for me. I'm not in love with bacon and eggs for breakfast every morning. I have a very hard time eating protein as it is since it is just not one of my favorite things to eat that the thought of eating only protein again makes me kind of ill.

The thing is...you do lose some initial weight quickly on the Atkins diet which is positive reinforcement. To see the scale going down is really nice and keeps you motivated. However, when it gets difficult to put a bite of food in your mouth because you are so sice of protein, what is that doing to you mentally. Everytime I eventually just broke down and went carb crazy and the pounds came flying back...
...

I started Atkins 37 days ago thinking it would never work but since everything else had failed, why not give Atkins a try. I started at 178.8 and I am now 168.2. I lost 8 inches total off of my body and my clothes show it well. I used to be hungry and crave things all the time and by the end of the first week, my craving disappeared. I used to drink almost a 12 pack of diet coke a day and hated water. Well guess what? I stopped caffeine and now drink 1/2 my body weight in water a day. To those who think it is all meat and boring. Read the book. You are allowed a about 15 net carbs of veggies a day and when you use a digital scale to weigh your foods, that is a lot. I have learned how to make tons of fun and exciting meals that I look forward to and my family can enjoy. The Atkins community is free to join and a great resource. I admit, my weight loss has been slow, but I am still learning about Atkins and my own body and it has been fun. Yes, I said fun. It is fun to wake up and not gain...
...
