j9j says "Top of its class" about Texas Instruments - TI-89 Graphic Calculator

<p>The Texas Instruments TI-89 Graphic Calculator is the best graphics calculator I have ever used. I've worked as a mathematics tutor for years, so I've seen my fair share of them. My only warning is it is easy to get too dependent on its features and forget how to do things for yourself (which could be bad as this calculator may or may not be allowed in a particular class).</p>&#13;
<p>It is only slightly more expensive than the TI-83 or TI-84, but it can do far more (and it is much easier to use than either of those). It can solve equations, do matrices, diferentiate, intergrate, and loads more.</p>&#13;
<p>One of the best features is that is saves the last 20 or so entries you have made AND you can scroll up to those inputs and use them again. It is also really easy to go back and correct mistakes. If you give the 89 a chance you will never want to go back to and 83 or 84.</p>...

<p>Before I bought a TI-89 Titanium, I had used a TI-83 Plus for four years. After taking calculus and learning about limits, derivatives, integrals, infinite series, Taylor series, differential equations, and multivariable functions, I decided that I would look for a calculator which was capable of symbolic computation. After analyzing my options, I decided on a TI-89 Titanium. The TI-89 Titanium is able to expand polynomials, factor polynomials, and do all of the calculus techniques that I mentioned -- symbolically and numerically. One of the other things I found helpful was the TI-89 Titanium's ability to plot direction fields using different algorithms (including Euler's method). One of the nicer things about this model (compared to the TI-89) is that it has USB connectivity (cord included) for installing applications and transferring data. Another nice thing is that it also supports connectivity to older model TI-89s via the old I/O port which is right next to the USB connector....</p>...

I seriously cannot remember how I managed to do any kind of math before I bought a TI-89. It is so incredibly powerful and can perform a ton of difficult operations, saving you a lot of time. Unfortunately, the TI-89 is not allowed in many classes, but it is still useful for checking your homework or for quick calculations in independent work. Also, it is rather necessary to read the manual as it can be a bit complicated to use. But once you get used to it, it makes calculus easy and fun. The pretty print technology, which sounds a bit lame, is actually very useful as it is easy to make an error with parentheses and whatnot. I've been using this calculator for years and it still works perfectly; i have only had to change batteries two or three times! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who plans on studying high-level mathematics....

mandysue22 says "amazing calculator seconds as an etch-a-sketch" about Texas Instruments - TI-89 Graphic Calculator

<p>I used this calculator in my high school calculus class. The instruction manual is big enough to be a full-length novel, but if you take the time to read parts of it, you may be surprised at how many problem-solving steps this calculator can eliminate for you. And after performing the functions several times, they will become second-nature...I promise! </p>

<p>One of my personal favorite features was "Draw." During slow moments in my calc class, I would play! First I would graph a circle, then I would remove the grid and axes. The next step was employing the "draw" tool, and I would create a volleyball, a basketball, a soccer ball... I could insert text. Then I could save the graph, so I could show my calculating, also-bored-in-class friends later. </p>...

I have a TI 89, and I love it. I have had my calculator for more than three years. This calculator can do just about everything. But if you do not need any of the higher functions, this calculator is not for you. A down side is that for some standard test you can not use it, but I have had no trouble using it for college classes....

The TI 89 Calculator can do pretty much anything you need. The huge down fall is that most of the time if you need insturctions for it your wont get it in your high school or college classes because they all use the TI83 or TI84 's . Not only that but i am currently in a Pre-calc &amp; trig class at my local college and my teacher doesnt allow people to have a TI 89 for tests or quizes. So if you are looking to buy a calculaor for class that you can acutally use i would recommend getting either the Ti 83 PLUS or The TI 84 both are favorede by teachers and most students as well....

The TI-89 has a huge set of features. I also have a TI-83, which gets superior battery life, but the TI-89 does symbolic integration, symbolic derivation, and units conversion. Also, pretty print helps avoid lots of common errors from improper use of parentheses. Overall an excellent calculator, and worth the extra money if you're going to be pursuing a field in engineering....

I purchased my graphing calculator in 8th grade. At first, my parents and I were alittle upset because they are so expensive. However, this was one of the best purchases we ever made. This calculator has lasted since 8th grade and I am now a freshmen in college. Every single year I use this calculator and it has never failed me. If you are looking for a good, reliable, calculator that can do just about anything, this is definetly the calculator for you!...

The TI-89 is far more powerful than some of the older models in that it can symbolically evaluate derivatives and integrals, something your TI-83 (and not even MATLAB) can't do. It can even solve differential equations for you. Many of the commands are similar to MATLAB, so if you are used to that, it is good. Programming on the 89 is quite a bit more difficult than on the 83, but still doable. Generally, it seems like an 83 will get you through about pre-calculus, but the 89 will help you go further and will help you in calculus (single and multi variable), differential equations, and linear algebra....

The TI-89 Graphing Calculator is an amazing product. It can perform so many more tasks than the TI-83 or -84 and it costs only a little bit more. I used this calculator in my AP Calculus class last year and use it this year, in my Calc 2 class. Every one of my friends was so jealous of me haha. While they were having to memorize complicated calculus formulas and rules, I just laughed and scored higher than them on our tests. And its all because of my trusty TI-89. This calculator is great and I strongly recommend it to any high school or college student who is taking math classes....
