The TI 83 is one of the sweetest calculators i have ever seen. I got it 4 years ago and the batteries just recently had to be replaced. It is very helping when figuring out long problems that requires many symbols. I use it most with exponets because it works so easily with those. It is not diffuicult to use at all and i caught on very fast. It even has a cord were u can download new applications and even games. Also if you need to see a graph it is very easy, you just put in the y values and press graph and BAM the graph shows up. I do wish i had a new model of it because i would love to see how cool that one is too. The TI 83 has made my mathing life very easy and helps me get through things fast. test, quizzes, exams, or just understanding notes is so must easier and fast. The only problem is it takes you a while to get used to using it but once you do you will be so happy. this calculator is awesome
...

j9j says "Great when it first came out, but now there are better options" about Texas Instruments - TI 83

When the Texas Instruments TI 83 calculator came out (about 7 years ago... or so) it was an amazing thing. Here you could do all sorts of things... graphing, matrices, etc. However, now it seems bulky, slow, and hard to use compared to its newer cousins. To qualify, I have tutored mathematics for years so I have seen a wide range of graphing calculators. The TI-84 is a big step up from the 83 AND the TI-89 is worlds better. One of the things I find most annoying about the 83 is that it is cumbersom to correct mistakes. For example, if you type in a long equation and realize you left out something at the beginning it defaults to overwrite... so if you are not careful you end up deleting something you want instead of inserting what you are missing. And you cannot go back to previous entries (one of my favorite features of the TI-89).
...

If you are a high school student, then this calculator is for you. It has everything you need, for algebra, precalculus, and calculus. The good thing about the 83+ is that it is upgradable, so the need for a new calculator doesn't arise, every few years. Purchasing a graph-link can add on a TREMENDOUS amount of programs to use for Physics, Geometry, and even 3D-Graphs, (previously only on the ti-89 and up). If you are in High School, do NOT get the ti-92 or ti-89, because they will probably be banned from standardized tests, and high math classes, so ask your math teacher, because they are too hard to use and understand. Also, these 2 calculators are aimed for more college-level students, so if you are in college, try the ti-89. But in every case, a ti-83+ is ideal!
...

An engineering student would be screwed without a decent calculator. So far it's been good enough for anything I need it to do. The storage is good for cheat sheets that you're not supposed to have and it knows 2+2 is 4 and has a lot of advanced stuff on it. Most of it I've never used but the matrix functions are always helpful....

The TI-83 has an excellent set of features, and has much better battery life than the TI-89. I have both, but I use the 83 for most things aside from units conversion or symbolic integration. I've owned my TI-83 for years, and dropped it countless times on hard surfaces, and I think it's even gotten rained on a time or two, and it keeps on ticking....

I love my TI-83 calculator. I've been using it for about ten years now and though it seemed quite expensive at the outset, it has been worth it! I use it almost everyday. I use it mostly for simple math, because the big screen and features make it so easy! And whenever I do need to graph something, it's right there....

We used this calculator a lot when I was in high school. It's high price tag used to scare a lot of people away when I worked in an electronics store. What people don't realize is that this calculator can do anything! You can even upload games. I also continued to use it throughout college and even now....

I never would have bought this calculator if it wasn't a requirement for my college algebra class. I also needed it for a Statistics class, and each time I learn a new way to use it I am even more impressed. Although I have listed as a con that it should come with a personal trainer, I understand it is not possible :) The instruction manual is a little tedious, but if you get everyone to show you what they know about it, pretty soon you'll be a master at it, and you'll as impressed with it as I am....

Out of all of the TI graphing calculators, this has everything you need through Calculus II, and is very well priced. You can get the silver addition for an aesthetically pleasing case. You can get the more expensive models, but this really has everything you need. It is easy to use, and pretty much self-explanatory. I used this throughout high school and college math, and it was more than enough. Lots of features I haven't even discovered yet. Can be used to store information, play games, and of course, do schoolwork. It's also widespread and available in pretty much any office supplies store....
