johnmforrest says "Do not go to Spring Tattoo in Beijing" about Tattoo Artists

I am living in China right now. I thought it would be fun to get a tattoo here. I wanted to finish my sleeve and I also thought it would be a good story to tell. So I did my research and I found Zhang Hongmei in Beijing. Her credentials looked good. She worked in Paul Booth's studio in the U.S. in NYC for sometime and also her artwork looked good. Her price is expensive but, as they saying goes "good tattoos are not cheap and cheap tattoos are not good." However, this experience was a terrible one. First, she showed up an hour late. Very unprofessional. Next, she asked me if I brought my drawing. What!? I told her exactly what I wanted to have tattooed on my arm well in advance of my appointment. I thought that she was the artist, not me. Being the artist, she should have prepared a drawing. So, she spent an hour drawing on my arm, which she charged me an outrageous amount of money for. Never in my life of getting tattooed has an artist charged me for drawing time. Never. Then because......

prickshade says "For a great tattoo in Sacramento, see Eric Ross!" about Tattoo Artists

I heard about Eric Ross from friends of mine who are heavily tattooed by him. I was interested in getting something large and detailed. I was thinking of a large Koi tattoo or anything of the Japanese tattoo motif. After looking at Eric's mypsace page and website, I was convinced that he was the man for the job. After looking at tons of imagery suggested by Eric, I decided on a Japanese Demon, called an Oni. Eric drew some of the design on paper and some of it on my arm with a sharpie pen. Mr. Ross has a keen eye for design and balance. I would recommend him to anyone who wanted a nice quality tattoo. I am not sure which shop he is working at nowadays but you can see his work at www.thespottat2.com or email him at ericross76@yahoo.com Thanks Eric!
...

Tattoo artists in Visalia, CA. Me and my boyfriend have been drawing for years and decided to try tattooing. He's been tattooing a few years and i started tattooing recently. So far i've done about six tattoos, my boyfriend has done too many to count. Most recent one was a chinese symbol on a girls neck that meant hope. We custom design all the tattoos, as well as our own. He has half sleeves, tattoos on his chest, stomach, back and legs. I have a nautical star on my back, 3 roses down my side and his name on 2 places. All my tattoos he's done. Our next client is getting her deceased sisters name down her arm and tinker-bell on her other arm.

Just bought new tattoo stuff, new gun, colors, and uv blacklight ink. We don't work at a shop because they believe we're to young. I'm 17 and out of high-school. If you would like to see some of our work i can upload pictures of different ones we've done. Or if you would like a custom design email me and i can draw it up and send a...
...

dad4dmj says "Make sure, then make sure" about Tattoo Artists

I just got my first tattoo at the age of 44. You definitely need to make sure it is something you want to do, think about it carefully, then think about it some-more. Think about what you want, where you want to have it applied. What the tattoo says, what is not offensive to some, is to others, just another thing to consider.

Do the research, and make sure that the artist is truly an artist, build a trust with him or her before you allow them to change your body.

Tattoo's can be very tasteful, so think about it. Also not a good idea to have a partners name included, NO ONE KNOWS what will happen down the road. Kids Names are cool to include, parents, they will never be "ex's", just something realistic to consider.
...

SneakyOne says "Tattoos should not be an impulse purchase" about Tattoo Artists

My brother is an internationally known tattoo artist. From him I have learned quite about about the tattoo world. First and foremost, if you walk into a tattoo shop and it's not clean and hygenic looking (meaning no dirt around the corners or baseboards) then you should be a little leary about getting a tattoo there. He tattoos in some pretty high class tattoo parlors and all the artists he works with are very concious of the cleanliness of their surroundings. Pretty much all parlors use autoclaves to clean the equipment, but does the parlor you're about to get your tattoo in clean the chairs and their stations effectively? Watch them tattoo someone else and notice the precautions they take to keep the work area clean too. They are working with blood and bodily fluids at the stations (tattoos and piercings), so it is important for them to take precautions and clean up appropriately. Take the time to watch your artist work before you get your tattoo. Most parlors allow the......

ive met a bunch of tattoo artists, and i only want to be tattooed by someone who gives me a spectacular vibe. when i walk in, i want to be greeted nicely, and helped with whatever i may need. in order to share the tattooing bond with someone, you have to connect with them on a personal level. remember, ! they are going to be very close with you. also, on the technical side, they should have a very clean and orderly shop/area. that is all :)...

kid-kansas says "Something to think about before getting a Tattoo!!!" about Tattoo Artists

Okay I am a Redneck and as such I have Tattoo's on my body. After reading a few reviews I felt they lacked in some very important information and that I will share with you now.

Getting a Tattoo

My tattoo's are over 30 years old and when I got mine it was something that only bikers or servicemen got. There were not very many Tattoo Shops around and the ones you found were either near a Military Base or in the REAL Bad part of town. Surprisingly they were very clean on the inside. In those days (early to mid 70's) they reused the needles but they were sterilized in autoclaves.

Some important things to remember!!

Be sure you really want one because contrary to popular belief they are not easily removed and will leave very bad scarring when removed. These are permanent and you need to think long and hard before getting one. Mine are easily covered up by my shirt so if I don't want you to see them you won't.

Do your research into the Artist that will be doing your Tattoo, looking at pictures......

Sondra says "Tattoo Factory did an awesome job..." about Tattoo Artists

The Tattoo Factory in Chicago was a great place for my daughter to get her first tattoo. The artist took time with her, explaining the process, and did the job quickly and without fuss. I also had a tattoo done. It's a beautiful tattoo of my daughter as a pink fairy.

The only con I had was that they were, in fact, a "factory" with a kind of churn them out mentality. I would have liked the artist to seem like he was listening to me and not jumping to conclusions about what I like. Either way, I ended up with a great looking tattoo, and a good start of my collection of three. :)
...
