tbbaot says "Beware Target uses a gimmick on your credit available" about Target - Visa Credit Card

Target has recently begun doing something that I have never seen before and I have worked in the credit industry for 25 years. Here is how it works: Normally after you make a payment and your account is current, the payment was not late and you are not over your credit line, your "credit available" is restored the same day (or next day) after you have paid. Not so with Target, they are now taking up to two weeks to update your credit available. This is not an issue for most people but lets look at an example.

Let's say you owe $1000 and your credit line is $1500. You pay your balance in full and anticipate purchasing something in the next week that costs $1200 (still under your credit line). You make your payment online with a debit card and it clears your bank the day after your payment. One week later you try and make the purchase in store and are denied for "innsufficient credit available". Would you not be a little upset and embarrassed? This is exactly what Target is doing.
...

I was a Target Visa holder for about 5 years. I had one late payment about 3 years ago. Just recently, I was contacted by a Target Visa representative at my work number (which I've never been contacted at by a creditor at) that I was a day late on my payment and they wanted to make sure that I was going to be making my payment by the next day so that they wouldn't have to raise my interest rate and turn it in on my credit report. Needless to say, I was shocked. My credit is and always has been in very good standing. As I said, I was late on one of my payments in the past, but had never been contacted and threatened by a Target Visa representative in this manner. I assured them that it was an oversight and I would have my payment to them by the next business day. They seemed satisfied with this...but I was still reeling from the fact that I was in such good standing with my credit and after one late payment by only one day, they were calling my at my work number "harassing" me...
...

I have been a target card holder since 2004, my credit limit is $7000 , never a late payment, never gone over the limit, and I have amazing credit score and a spotless credit history. Well my husband made a payment to our card (btw, our payment wasn't even due) and he input the wrong back information and the payment was returned, Well I called and I apologized, said I was very sorry but my husband made a mistake and I had already issued another payment and they can see that we are not the type of people who do that and wondered if there was any way they could wave the $39 return payment fee. Well I was told NO. It was your mistake. I said well I know it was my mistake , but I am asking as a one time courtesy to long time good standing customers, if you can wave it? he said NO (at this point I was shocked) so they put me through a supervisor, who said NO! I said , you do know is common practice to do things like this for customers? right? to which she replied "sometimes we have to EAT...
...

SSUGrad says "The Target Visa credit card has good rewards, but high interest." about Target - Visa Credit Card

The Target Visa credit card works well for people who shop at Target often. The accumulation of ten percent off rewards is a nice bonus, it allows people to save up for big purchases, and get the extra discount with the ten percent rewards. Plus, you use the ten percent off for the big purchases, save the money and then send yourself on your way to earning your next ten percent off reward, It's a nice little circle of savings. The interest rate is a tad higher than other cards out there, but it's manageable. My advice is do not take out a cash advance against the card unless you are prepared to pay it off completely, because it will take quite a bit of time otherwise....

Like Chase bank, Target National Bank could care less about your business. After being a customer for several years, I requested a lower interest rate, they told me they couldn't do it. The representative and the supervisor were less than accommodating. I paid my account balance in full and have shredded the card. I would not recommend the Target Visa to anyone. ...

i love using my target visa. i like spend five or six months paying down the balance and then i go on a shopping spree for things i like, but i dont like how the interest rate is, it kinda sucks. i love buying new clothes and video games there. some of their clothing is a little high priced but i tend to hit the clearance racks first and you find some pretty good deals if you hit the clearance racks first. they also have a very large video game section in the electronics department....

With all the bad mortgage loans etc. I could not believe that some of our credit cards are charging over 30% interest! Target was one of them. I called them and requested they lower the interest rate, was put on hold over 30 mins. Only to be told I did not qualify! I said I did not ask for a credit line increase. They said "We know, you want your interest rate lowered". Then they said the "Computer said not at this time". So guess what, after careful consideration and consultation with my lawyer I am doing a chapter 7! So go to hell Target! Now you are not getting squat! Amazingly enough, six weeks later "The Northland Group" called me and wanted me to settle by paying 1/2 of what I actually owe! I told them "NO MY COMPUTER SAID SCREW YOU"!...
