jzfields1 says "Shocking portrayal of "organized" crime with betrayal EVERYWHERE" about The Departed (2006)

This film is, simple put, phenominal... it brings the alter-ego of human nature and pits it up against some pretty bad cops.... one begins even to ask oneself "who should we root for?" Nicholson's portrayal as Frank Costello frightens and entertains like no other performance of the 21st century. DiCaprio suddenly gains some approval and acts the part perfectly. Damon was decent, but a very flat character with no room for development, Whalberg was MEAN yet perfect in his role (which earned him an academy nod).

Watch it! it is simply amazing... see scorsese at his best!
...

This was so action packed and well written that I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The acting was superb, the storyline believable (and a bit frightening), throughout the entire movie I kept thinking this could really happen.

Jack Nicholson, as always, was one of the reasons this movie was so enjoyable. The plot, the cast, the whole package made for a very enjoyable film.

...

martylee130459 says "Not it's director's best (or it's years Best Picture...but" about The Departed (2006)

As so often in Oscar History...this was a clear cut instance of making up for past slights (especially the passing up of "Gangs of New York" and "The Aviator").

That in no way implies that "the Departed" is a bad film....( it is in fact a crackling return to the tough and vital crackling good action of his early career)....it just lacks the vision, stature, and elegance of his later masterpieces).

The DVD does a striking job of highlighting the film's strengths...especially the charisma of the carefully handpicked cast.

The dark violence and unrelenting coldness will be sure to put off more sensitive viewers...(with "No Country For Old Men" and "There will be Blood" following this as top Best Picture Contenders it is safe to call this the Academy's "Black, Blue, and Red all over" period...).

A must for fans of the Oscars, the Director, and any of the stars...and sure to be much better respected in the future than some of the winners from earlier in the decade...

...

The Departed was the best action movie I'd seen in quite a long time. And it was one of Jack Nicoleson's best performances in his career. The overall cast in the movie was super. Jack Nicoleson, Leonardo DeCaprio, Matt Damon, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, and Mark Wahlberg were the biggest names. After Mark Wahlberg's performance, I checked all his movies on Blockbuster online and put them in My Queue. The plot in the movie was excellent. It was a movie that kept your attention the whole way through and if you got the lest bit lost, the entire movie would end wrong!...

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Great plot, great direction. The love story ruins the movie, but you can forgive that easily. Great ending. I have not seen the first one (it is a remake) but I suspect an excellent direction. You have to see it. Rent it!
...

A very good movie, was very entertained and liked Matt Damon a lot in this movie. He played a great roll. Leonardo DeCaprio plays a cop who goes undercover in the mob. He tries to gain the trust of Jack Nicholas the leader of the mob. Jack has also has someone who he trusts a lot to watch his back Matt Damon. There is a lot of double crossing of people from both sides. This was 1 of the best movies of the year....

This was a movie that the boyfriend dragged me to. And I was so glad he did, for such a long movie it goes by so quickly, which is a sign of a great movie. I loved it! I know it was a remake but I never saw the original so I didn't know what was going to happen and now I never want to see the original....

This was a great movie. I saw it in the theater and have rented it several times, and it was always very good. All actors put on the performance of a lifetime, particularly DiCaprio and Damon. It was a big long, but I wasn't bored for a second! Definatly action packed, although if you don't like violence this movie might not be for you....

This movie caught me completely off guard which is something usually very difficult to achieve. Going into it, I was already in love with the plotline, but apparently, that wasn't all there was to it. The ending threw me off guard and I absolutey LOVED that. Damon was an amazing foil to DiCaprio's character and Wahlberg was excellent as comic relief. Definitely one of my favorite movies of all times! Alot of swearing though, but personally I thought that was hilarious....

The Departed was by far my favorite movie of 2006 and defintely in my top 10 movies. The soundtrack is awesome and being from Boston well it just hit home this movie. I think Matt Damon tried too hard to bring his accent out while he doesn't need to. Mark Walhberg was incredible and Leonardo well I was never a fan until this movie and now he has my attention. Great job by all! ...

This is by far the best movie that I have seen lately! In fact, my hubby and I watched it at the theater when it first debuted and rented it through blockbuster.com to watch it at home again recently! He knew how much I loved it. I was literally blown away by all the twists and action, particularly near the end ... if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.

First Martin Sheen takes a "dive" and then I was feeling pretty bad and SURPRISED about Leonardo -- even the second time, "OMG, OMG ..." It reminded me of another movie with Nicholson and Pacino one night at an airport behind a building where there's that unexpected ending ... I guess there are just those male actors that you don't like seeing "blown away" in any movies.

Well, I thought the movie was truly remarkable and I'm a chic into chic flicks of all things!
...
