Fardreamer says "Bryan Singer's Superman Returns is a Super-reboot!" about Superman Returns

The Decline, Fall and Return of the Man of Steel: In the wake of not one but two really bad Superman films (Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace), it's not surprising that Warner Bros. and many Hollywood producers decided to, at least for a while, to pull the plug on the now-moribund film series based on DC Comics' iconic Last Son of Krypton.

Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder, Marc McClure and the rest of the stars who had worked together in most of the movies moved on with their lives. Some, like Hackman, would go on to keep making movies and earning accolades, while others (Reeve, McClure and Kidder) still acted but were relegated to smaller "character actor" roles in features and television, including appearances on Smallville, the WB/CW series based on Clark Kent's "coming of age" years in Smallville, KS.

(Of course, Reeve, whose acting was one of the few saving graces of the two Super-duds directed by Richard Lester and Sidney J. Furie, was touched by tragedy...
...

djguiden says "A disappointment" about Superman Returns

Bryan Singer tackles this intriguing question with grand and sincere strokes in Superman Returns, a mega-budget kick-start to a dormant franchise that represented some of the best and worst that big-screen superhero films have had to offer. Here, the director whole-heartedly tries to honor Richard Donner's original vision of the DC Comics hero while lending new emotional complexity to the world of this adopted alien savior. The result is an ambitious picture full of fervent emotion and nobility, yet missing the charming spark and energy that its predecessors had in spades. Of the things that work is the surprisingly wonderful new Man of Steel, Brandon Routh, who embodies the role in an uncanny performance that adds the right amount of depth for the direction that Singer and his young writing team laid out for the picture....

vegandaniel says "Superman Returns - in 3D" about Superman Returns

I am not really going to talk about the movie itself much since I don't want to ruin anything for anyone. As much as I was interested in the movie itself, I was also way interested in seeing the highly touted new generation of 3D technology. For anyone who doesn't know, the movie was shot in regular 2D but then 20 minutes of it were converted to 3D. The only real trouble was that it was a little blurry at times, especially when there was a lot of fast motion on the screen. The other distracting thing was that when the little pictures of glasses flashed onto the screen (yeah, they really did do that) you could see some sort of lens change happen. This also happened when the movie switched back to 2D. Actually the best 3D was during the previews for The Ant Bully and something with a bear in it. Both were cg and looked freakin great! The trouble with Superman (I hope) was that since it was retro fitted it didn't always work right, I can remember one part where his head looked just a fraction......

hsumyers says "The best superman movie!" about Superman Returns

I loved this movie! My son got it for Christmas and since he is 4, I have seen it a dozen times, but it is one of the few movies that I do not mind watching over and over again! I was impressed by the creativity in extending the storyline rather than trying to retell the same stories in a different way. Lots of adventure, love and a few unexpected twists....

cgreen4550 says "God is in this movie" about Superman Returns

This movie grows on you. At first when I saw the movie in the theater I was not that impressed but later I began to see what the movie was really about. A man sent to earth by is father, raised by humans but yet with a greater mission. One lone man sent to save the world. Born of the house of El. This man is a type of Christ. There are so many things in this movie that points to God. Jesus was sent here to be raised by humans and he could be seen as an alien because he was not of this world. Read the book "The Gospel according to the world's greatest superheroes". Great book it shows the relationship between the superman genre and the bible. When Superman goes on the rock that Lex created out of kryptonite he gets weak and he is beaten and stabbed in the side with a piece of kryptonite. Jesus was beaten and stabbed also by the very ones he wanted to save. Superman as he was being beaten up yells, "I'm still Superman," even though his powers were gone. Then he is...
...

earper says "What a waste of a good movie!" about Superman Returns

First of all, I love Superman! I watched all of the movies. I still watch the cartoons, when I can. Read most of the comic books - I just love him. But this movie - please.

It was a waste of a good movie! It was almost as if event he writers and directors could not wait for it to be over. A whole lot of it was lost in traslation.

I wanted something more - I needed something more. This just was not it!
...
