My grandparents have a blue front amazon parrot. It is completely entertaining. I recommend that you have plenty of patience if you want one of these birds. Also, plan on the bird outliving you because they have very long lifespans....

We have a parrot named Bubba! He is the most awesome bird! He loves warm weather and loves to talk. He mimmicks my grandma's voice perfectly! It is so funny, he sounds exactly like her. One day her and my grandpa were sleeping and someone knocked on the door and he said "come in". They did come in and looked all over the house, only to find my grandparents sleeping in the bedroom!

These birds are rather expensive, but the entertainment value alone is worth it!

Cappy loves my kids, our pet bunnies and pet chinchilas and entertains us constantly.

We have had her featured in Bird Talk magazine a couple of years ago. I recommend Bird Talk magazine to any bird owner/lover.

I lost my Bird several months ago... My family tried a couple of times to get me another, but I just was not ready. I finally can not stand the QUIET anymore.. I have been looking at the Greys. I really like what I see and read about them. Does anyone have or have had a grey and another large ie... a amazon, macaw, ... How do they compare??? A friend is really pushing me toward a conure, but I think hers has ruined them for me. IT IS A TERROR!!! I am so confused.. I wish the ones I am looking at were all in one place, so I could compare and finds the right match for my family... We are rehoming one, so I am looking at adoption places and owners that have to rehome.ANY ADVICE? ...

Amazon's are a fantastic bird.They talk,play and give you love.Birdie sits on my shoulder and puts her head under my chin and will sit like that for quite a while. As much time as we have fun there is about as much spent cleaning up after them.The cage ,perch ,floor or a shirt doesn't matter when they're eating or eliminating.

I raise and train baby parrots. I have Blue Front Amazons, Yellow Nape Amazons, Magna Double Yellow Heads, Congo African Grey and cockatiels.

The Amazons are a challenge during breeding season. It is not hard to read their emotions. They will flare their pupils and then they will go to pin points. This is the time to leave the bird alone. During breeding season they can be very cantankerous. I use a dowel for my birds to step up on this time of year. The rest of the year they will hop right up on my arm and never bite.

I presently have two baby Yellow Napes that are 18 weeks old. They started talking when they were eight weeks old! They both have pretty good voices and seem to pick up words fairly easy. They will mimic the phone ringing and then say hello, then pause for a couple of seconds and start laughing. They both are saying about 5 or 6 words. They will hold up their foot when you tell them to shake. I have been letting them fly but I just started to clip their wings. They...

THIS IS A STURDY HEALTHY BIRD THAT WILL LIVE FOR 75 YEARS; SO DON'T GET ONE UNLESS YOU CAN MAKE PROVISIONS.
THEY ARE UNPREDICTABLE AND YET LOYAL. THEY PICK ONE PERSON AS A FAVORITE AND TOLERATE THE REST OF THE FAMILY.
THEY ARE THE GREAT MIMIC. THEY DON'T SOUND LIKE BIRDS IMMITATING; THEY MIMIC SOUNDS AND PEOPLE EXACTLY.
THEY ARE AMUSED BY IMMITATING AND WATCHING US RESPOND.
THEY ARE ONLY NOISEY FOR A REASON. IT IS OUR JOB TO FIND OUT WHAT THEIR CONCERN IS. ARE WE KEEPING THEM AWAKE? ARE THEY BORED? DO THEY WANT FRESH WATER, FRESH FOOD? WHY DIDN'T WE GIVE THEM AN ALMOND TODAY<WE KNOW THAT IS THEIR FAVORITE.
JUST A SAMPLING OF IDEAS. THEY LIKE THEIR FLIGHT TIME OR TO JUST BE OUT AND STRETCH THEIR WINGS ON TOP OF THE CAGE.
THEY ARE GREAT AND AS LONG AS THEY RESPECT YOU AS THE LEADER; THERE IS NO CONCERN.
I DON'T SUGGEST THEM AROUND SMALL CHILDREN UNLESS YOU MAKE PROVISIONS; SINCE THE BIRD MAY THINK THAT LITTLE FINGER POKING INTO THEIR CAGE IS A TREAT.

Binita my Yellow Nape Amazon

Binita is my Yellow Nape Amazon Parrot. When she came to live with us 25 years ago, she was a little baby. We hand feed her a mixture of baby pablum, milk, peanut butter and mashed bananas. I placed her on her perch, tied a bib around her neck and feed her with a spoon crimped up on both sides.

Over the years she has been a great companion. She has a 350 word vocabulary, says her A B C's, Counts up to 50 and sings opera. She says "hello" when the phone rings.

Several years ago we lived in the country. I was in the kitchen washing dishes. We had Binita's cage setting close to the door. I turned around to see a man standing in my living room. I said " I was raised to knock before I inter someones house". He said " mam I did knock and someone said "come in". I made sure my door was locked after that.
