lu says "Steve's Deli: A large platter of disappointment" about Steve's Deli - Chicago, IL

We went to Steve's Deli just about a month after in opened. There was a long line and the place was very crowded with people on lunch break. I had my 4 year old son and 85 year old aunt with me. I was excited by the lengthy menu and quickly picked a salad that boasted chicken, avocado, beets, chick peas and thousand island dressing. It was so WEAK! The lettuce was iceberg, they forgot the avocado, and the chicken was tiny! The salad bowl was small and it cost nearly $13! I was not happy! My son had a bowl of matzo ball soup (decent) and mac and cheese and my aunt had a cup of lentil soup (fair) and a big corned beef sandwich (good). Our total bill was $57! While the service was nice and somewhat fast, the restaurant was noisy and my meal was horrible. ...

vytas says "Underwhelmed...but I'll give them another chance" about Steve's Deli - Chicago, IL

Yesterday a group of us went out to grab lunch at the newly opened Steve's Deli. With only a few days under its belt (it opened three days ago), Steve's Deli was a scene of chaos. There was plenty of staff, just it didn't seem like they knew what their roles were. It started off with confusion over who would take our order - once we located a gentleman to do so, he was completely unfamiliar with the menu so it took a bit of time to explain each selection. Once the order was placed we proceeded to wait 35 minutes for our order to be filled. During that time, a number of potential customers wondered in only to turn around and walk out after a few minutes of watching the chaotic scene. When we finally received our order, out of the five in our group, one's order was completely forgotten. Had we walked out of the deli without checking the bag after paying, there would have been one very unhappy customer.

I ordered the Steve Special which is a bowl of soup and half a sandwich of your choice....
...

If you have read any of my other restaurants reviews you know that I appreciate great food. That is why I was so excited when I heard that Steve's Deli was opening right down the street from our office in River North. I even dragged a few of my co-workers over there a few days ago before they opened to no avail. So when they mentioned they were walking over today I jumped at the chance.

Steve's Deli is a New York style deli that has a very successful outpost in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The concept is great. Tons of selection. Great sandwiches, salads, and hot prepared food. I had a great Chicken Picatta and mashed cauliflower. Both were top notch. Two of my co-workers said their sandwiches, a corned beef and a turkey sandwich was great. They both rated these sandwiches a five.

The cold salads looked quite tasty. I was eyeing a cucumber salad and a low fat chicken salad. They have both regular egg salad and egg white. Several kinds of knishes, matzo ball soup,...
...
