Star Wars Phantom Menace had the hype and my interest because I am such a huge Star Wars fan however the script was terrible. The character Ja Ja Binks (sic) had too big a role with this movie and was really annoying. The boy playing Anakin (sic) was aweful. I would not recommend this movie to anyone. George Lucas should have just left the original three alone and lived off the rewards of those films forever....

While this is my least favorite Star Wars film, it is still a good film. Yes there are flaws... OH MY there are flaws. But it is entertaining. I admit I had trouble getting into it until the second time I watched it (and reading the book version helps as well), but it is a good film.

I enjoyed learning the origin of Anakin Skywalker. I enjoyed learning about other jedi that had been destroyed. I enjoyed learning that Anakin had created C-3PO. And yes... I enjoy seeing Natalie Portman in almost any capacity.

Yes, I could have done without Jar Jar Binks. In fact I thought his "accent" was VERY difficult to understand. I didn't know what he was saying most the time (thank you, closed-caption!).

Seeing Darth Maul was very entertaining for me. I enjoyed seeing a sith that I was not previously familiar with. I enjoyed learning that there are only two sith: the master and the apprentice. This actually leads me to another point. If you haven't read "Darth Bane" yet... DO IT!!

Like many Star Wars fans of the 1977 Generation - those millions of young (and young-at-heart) movie watchers who were swept off their feet by George Lucas' space fantasy set "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away," I was really looking forward to the May 1999 premiere of Star Wars - Episode I: The Phantom Menace, the first of three "prequel" Episodes dealing with the rise of the Galactic Empire and the tragic fall from grace of a young Jedi named Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a. Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith.

Also like many Star Wars fans, I thought that Episode I was a bit of a let down, considering that we had been waiting 16 years for Lucas to return to the tale centered on the Skywalker family and its fateful role in both the fall of the Galactic Republic and the decimation of the Jedi Order. Maybe it was because it was talkier than I expected, or maybe it was because some of its plot points didn't quite jive with my own preconceived notions of what Episode I would - or should...

The Case

Okay, we're all familiar with the legendary, and sometimes infamous, Star Wars films. We've all seen the movies - and if you haven't, I demand you stop reading and go watch them NOW! - we've all heard the quotes, we've all used the phrase "May the Force be with you." Wait - doesn't everyone use that phrase in everyday conversation...?

Uh, anyway, what I'd like to do here is rank the six SW movies in order from "The Best Flick of all Time That Makes Me Weep With Joy Every Time I Watch It" to "Oh My God, What The Heck Is This Abominable Monstrosity of a Thing and Why Does It Have The Name 'Star Wars' Attached To It?!" For simplicity's sake, I'll refer to my ranking system on a numerical scale for the rest of this review.
