This little Sony Handy Cam/Digital camera is one of the best things invented since sliced bread. This little camera takes still pictures on memory card, as well as, video on mini dvds. These little dvds fit into your computer port and play very easy for copying or just playing. You can also take stills on the memory card and if you have a mini lab take it right out and print out your pictures. I bought a tripod for this gem and took a completely wonderful video of my sons Christmas Concert at school. This video turned out to be a family keep sake my wife downladed it onto the computer and then copied it onto a dvd. We then sent the dvd to my mother who has watched it over and over. She can't say enough about it. She can't be there to watch her grandsons grow up and this is wonderful way to help ease that anxiousness.
...

I bought the Sony - Handycam DCR-DVD108 DVD Camcorder a year ago, and i loved it. It has a lot of features, it is really easy to use. I've never used it as a camera so i can't say anything about it. But everything i recorded came out perfectly fine. It's a good quality and not a bad price. i take this camera with me everywhere....

i bought this camcorder a while back and only kept it for 3 days. Needless to say I was very dissappointed.First off,it is useless in low light conditions. i tried to record in my living room which had 2 lamps on in it and it was so grainy that it compared to a low budget webcam . Yes, i understand it is an entry level cam but it should still have a clear picture. If they need to cut corners cuz of low costs, they should maybe minimize on extra features....not on picture quality.....it has no light on it whaatsoever...cmon even cheapo cams comes with a light....

I got this thing...last month, I liked it, i m not like professional in this matter...i enjoy this prodcut

The one feature in which it did not live up to our expectations was for the still photographs. Although it can take stills, the quality of the stills is nowhere near as high as the quality of the video. An advantage of the photographic capability is that you can fit about 20,000 photos on the typical size of memory stick available now.

In addition to the high quality hardware, the supplied software is also excellent, ease of use, and practically runs itself. It does almost everything you would need to do to produce a typical home movie.
...

terraMAC says "Fine camcorder, minor battery complaint" about Sony - Handycam DCR-DVD108 DVD Camcorder

The LCD screen on my one-year-old DCR-HC21 miniDV camcorder stopped working so I figured it was a good time to upgrade to a mini DVD camcorder I've been wanting for a while. The DVD108 is great, and so much more user-friendly than a miniDV camcorder. I love that there's no more rewinding, fast-forwarding or searching for scenes on a tape. There are nice thumbnail images on the DVD making it easy to find scenes. Also there's a play button in record mode, so no need to toggle the dial back and forth between play and record. And it's nice to be able to review scenes, then start recording again right away without having to find the end of the last scene. You can't accidentally record over footage on a DVD.

The SP quality on miniDV tape looks slightly better than SP on miniDVD. So I'm switching to HQ recording, which will only give me 20 minutes of recording on a 1.4GB miniDVD, but they're cheap enough to buy a bunch.

Now, I purchased another Sony because I read that the batteries are compatible......

I had the old Sony Hi 8mm bought in 1998 and was impressed with its quality only now replaced that with the DCR-DVD108. It's sleek and compact. Like its video quality in low light (especially indoor). Just chaning the discs every 30 mins is a bit a of problem while recording my daughter's singing concert that went for about 60 mins. I still have the Hi 8mm which is bit bulky compared to the 108 but records a lot longer. Zoom button should have been where the on/off switch is. So it will be easy for the index finger to access it. I love the 40x Optical Zoom. It's rare to see this kind of zoom in Sony....

This product is wonderful and easy to use. The DVD's just pop out and go directly into the DVD player after you've finished recording. The DVD's only hold approximately 30 minutes of information at a time. It is so easy and convenient. I love it. I purchased the higher priced model by Sony and plan to use it for years to come. It would be nice to see DVD's which hold longer amounts of recorded time in the future. I recommend the purchase of an extra battery and handy plug in charger for added convenience. A+++...

I love that the DVD's can go straight from the camera to the DVD player. It can perform a few advanced functions (fade-ins, fade-outs, etc.). However, there is also the basic functions for everyday users like me. You can even switch the menu from "advanced" to "basic" so that if you're operating it with basic functions, you don't have all those advanced options to have to scroll through. I do not use it enough at night to justify buying the flash. So, I was pleased to find when tinkering with it one night that it has a "back light switch" that does give a decent nighttime picture without any external flash. I actually acquired mine from a friend and I think she was a fool for giving it up (lol)!...
