This phone is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. It does all I want and need it to do, such as be an alarm clock that wakes me up in the morning, be a calendar that holds all my activities, remind me of tasks that need to be done and store notes that are taken on the spot. It is small and compact I love the ability to customize ringtones once I have clipped them from my computer and transferred them to my phone via the usb cable provided and the system/software from the company. The most important asset this phone needs is the memory stick for the phone, because it will hold a lot of memory and allow for more usage such as taking pictures and storing music. Another con, is that it needs a flash setting like the candy bar phones do, but still perfect for taking pictures. The phone also has a lot of available themes to share and download for the phone to customize one's individual needs and personality. There are some features on this phone that I absolutely...
...

anathica says "The Sony Ericsson w580i is too flimsy for my tastes." about Sony Ericsson - W580i Cell Phone

I liked this phone, to a degree. It has a very sleek interface and some very cool features. I loved having TrackID (an application which records a sample of the song you are listening to, either on the phone or on a separate device, and then goes and finds the track information, artist, title, etc.) and I liked being able to run more than one application at a time (on the Sony Ericsson w810i, you can only have one open at a time, so if you have your mini browser running, you can't start the camera, or switch to Google Maps). Compared to the w810i, this phone's camera is better, but it does not have a light (or a flash, neither have these) like the w810i does, so you have to have outside lighting whenever you take a photo. My biggest qualm with this phone was how flimsy it was. I'm not too gentle with my phones, but I'm not horribly rough on them either. Every phone I've had has lasted at least a year, with the exception of this one, which lasted six months. Every time it got dropped, it...
...

ArthurDental says "Great screen & design. Would be perfect w/ flash memory slot" about Sony Ericsson - W580i Cell Phone

I knew someone who used a W600i. That was a feature-packed phone with almost everything you'd want, including a flashlight that was actually very useful once. But it was also very heavy and thick.

So laying my hands on the Sony Ericsson W580i, a slider, for the first time was a pleasant surprise. The phone is sleek, with rounded corners and a curved bottom that screams style. At the same time, the brilliant black finish I chose made sure the phone would be appropriate in every situation in front of any audience. The pink version, btw, is also very pretty.

In any case, the features of the phone were, for the most part, as good as the looks. You've got a big, clear, and colorful screen that's better than most phones. The speakphone is great; the battery life is excellent - if you don't use it it can last many days. The slide is solid, but easy to operate. There's a USB cable in the box for syncing with the computer, although you'll want to pay extreme care to follow the directions, because...
...

I generally enjoy my Sony Ericsson - W580i Cell Phone. It has a camera, texting abilities, an FM radio and MP3 capabilities. As an avid walker I like the fact that I don't need to carry my phone and some other music playing device with me. I only need the one device. If I want to listen to my own music - I can. If I want to just listen to the radio I can do that as well.

I wish it had a longer battery life. And it is easy for the buttons to be inadvertently pushed.
...

This is a nice little phone, for a time. Mine has had a few problems of not sending messages or calling out...you'll have to take the back off the phone, remove the battery, then remove the sim card and put it all back together and it will work. Other than that, it's been pretty good to me....

Changing my review: It was great before(read below the line) but it really started to fall apart after 4 or so months of having it. I still love the features listed below but they're worthless when you can't get past the "Insert Smartchip" screen on the phone. My phone would randomly lose contact with smartchip which would render the phone useless until the contact was found again. Sometimes I would have to take out and reseat the smartchip 5 times to get it to work. One time I was without use of my phone for an hour.

I took the phone to the att store and he told me the smartchip error was a known issue but it wasn't common enough for sony to replace your handset if you were getting the error.

I would also get no network coverage or no access to network errors frequently which could only be fixed by turning off the phone and turning it back on. One day I got the no network coverage, no access to network and the insert smartchip error all in the same day. It got to the point where...
...

This phone is one of the best looking phones out there. I have seen a lot of heads turn while using this phone. The features are pretty complete for a non-iphone type phone. Got some great games. Menu is pretty easy to follow. One thing that bugs me is it's battery life. I have to charge this phone pretty much every day. The USB cord is great so I can charge it while working on my laptop. I was not impressed by the camera. I had a razr phone prior to this one and the camera on that phone was definitely better....

It's sleek, pocket sized, and attractive looking. The music player is easy to use, and sound great with the headphones it comes with. But those qualities cannot carry over to the poor quality this phone was made with.

After having it only 3 weeks the keypads began cracking....and cracking... The colored lights that go off when the phone rings ceased to work. We called our service provider and complained about the keys and they sent out a new one. With in the week she had it the keys began cracking again! Also the light display ceased to work! The Face plate on the phone fell off along with the rubber keypad! The peice that slides back into the phone once you place the SIM card in, refused to go back into place. So, it just hangs there! This review is short and sweet, it's a poorly made phone. Every person I have seen with this phone has the SAME problem, cracking keys! We finally got the sister phone, by...
...

The sony W580i has nice program and software as well as the features. The camera is fine and almost everything is overwhelming. Unfortunately the only thing that is not good about this is the cracked keys. The battery life didnt seem to be very good in the first 2 weeks of having the phone but after than it has been good. Also the fitness thing is quite good and useful if you go jogging and you can see how many steps you've done each day....
