Pisty says "Good price, good brand." about Sony - DVP-NS55P DVD Player

I am reviewing the Sony - DVP - NS55P DVD Player. I am an avid movie watcher who keeps DVDs and movies on my computer. I was having problems with my pervious DVD player when trying to play DVD's and CDs that I recorded. For me it was a gamble every time I tried to play a burnt DVD or CD in my old DVD player. I went shopping specifically for a good quality DVD player that was combatable with most, if not all, burnt DVDs. After doing research, I purchased the Sony - DVP - NS55P DVD Player. It is small, compact, and sleek. I've played multiple types of burnt DVDs and CDs and have yet to have any problems with this DVD player reading them.

This DVD player also delivers very good audio and video performance for its price. It was also extreemly easy to hook this DVD player to my home theater system. So far the only con I have experienced is that it is only a single disk holder, so this model might be better as a supplimental DVD/CD player for someone's home theater system....
...

Some people want their DVD player to do everything including walk the dog. I just want my DVD player to deliver consistent quality in playing my DVD's and not let me down. The Sony- DVP-NS55p DVD Player does just that. We bought it last year and have never had a problem. This model came in both silver and satin black. We chose the black as it is sleek in appearance and rather compact. It doesn't take up a lot of room which is another awesome benefit. We looked around comparing prices and value at several locations. We bought our Sony DVD player at Walmart on sale at an unbeatable price of just $75. It is cost effective and so very easy to use. It is a great player for anyone that just wants to be able to come home pop in a movie and know they don't have to worry about anything. The purchase of this Sony player replaced and earlier model we had for over 5 years. Sony makes a great, dependable product.
...

scottmage says "Now that HD DVD format is dead, prices wil rise on Media" about Sony - DVP-NS55P DVD Player

Now that Warner Brothers has signed on with Blue Ray, Toshiba has thrown in the towel and wil stop producing HD DVD.

Without the competition that HD DVD brought, prices will begin rising back to where they were - AND since you are not legally able to make a copy of a Blue Ray disk will get very expensive if you scratch them.

With a regular DVD you are legally able to make a copy for yourself. I have been doing that for years with first my kids and now grandkids. I don't stress out that they get a scratch on a DVD because prices have dropped for blanks to as little as $.08 per DVD. On a $29 Blue Ray DVD (current prices with $25 HD DVD or as low as $15) that will be a different story.

For the price of these players, I would rather get a game console of some kind like a Sony PS3. I can then donate the CPUs to folding.stanford.edu for protien folding to fix diseases when I am not at home at least.
...

This a great progressive scan dvd player, I highly recommend going with this unit over any upconverting dvd models due to the fact that current dvds are burned in 480p. Attempts to "upconvert" to 1080i or p can cause the piscture to look worse. Using this dvd player the picture is as sharp and clear as a curent dvd can be. The menu's are easy to use and picture quality is great on any tv. I recommend getting component cables since they offer the best picture signal available on this model....

SpokaneMan says "A dependable and inexpensive option in the DVD market" about Sony - DVP-NS55P DVD Player

When it comes to DVD Players, some people want the flashy brand that can do 100 different things, and others want a simple machine that will play the DVD as easily as possible. The Sony DVP-NS55P is one of the latter, built with the simple premise that it would provide a quality picture from the DVD, and do so with an ease of use that could make this DVD player suitable for kids. Right out of the box, you notice that there isn't a lot to this DVD player, as it weighs a mere 6 pounds, and isn't much more than an inch thick at its width. This gives you an unobtrusive electronics device that can tuck away into a cabinet, or sit on a shelf without taking up valuable real estate. There aren't a lot of buttons to have to worry about either, as the front limits itself to the play/stop buttons, a power button, the open/close button, and a toggle to go back or forward on a DVD. The display presents a little bit more, showing the time and track/chapter count for the DVD.

For most of the...
...
