I originally received this as part of a product trial (lucky me!) and was skeptical that it would do anything in particular for my teeth. After all, I was using a battery-operated toothbrush; how different could it be? Very different, as it turned out! Aside from the initial weirdness of feeling my teeth and gums tingling, I was amazed at how clean my mouth felt after each brushing. The sonic waves must actually enhance cleaning and plaque removal -- hence, my feeling better than when I used just the battery-operated toothbrush. I have gotten very used to my Sonicare and feel a bit grungy when I'm traveling or otherwise forced to use a regular toothbrush.

Plus, the two-minute timer helps to keep me brushing for the optimal amount of time. I do wish that there were a twenty-second warning or something similar -- I'm a little jolted when my toothbrush just suddenly stops -- but overall, I think it's a great idea and provides good motivation.
...

I love my Sonicare Essence e5300 so much that the whole family each has there own. I first got an electric toothbrush first, then my husband who was a nonbeliever that they helped got a problem with his gums so I ordered him a sonicare toothbrush and he was pleasantly surprised that his teeth felt cleaner. So now be bought my daughter one for Christmas. Thank you for this opportunity.
...

The Sonicare electric toothbrush is a great product. My fiance and I have a pair of them. The most important benefit to me is that since I started using it, my gums no longer bleed when I floss. He likes it because the small head reaches hard-to-get spots. They are easy to charge, and the charge lasts quite a while, two to three weeks.

The main drawback, of course, is that they are expensive. Also, I dropped mine once, and it stopped working. My fiance was able to pry it open and get it going again, but it is not meant to be opened, so it was pretty ugly after that, and I ended up replacing it. So be careful with it and it will last a long time!
...

The Sonicare Essence leaves your teeth feeling as if you just had them cleaned at the dentist. It also does a fantastic job of massaging your gums to keep them healthy. The battery is recharged without electrical contacts -- great because over time the contacts would corrode and stop working. The biggest disadvantages of this model are price (but the job it does is worth it), the non-replaceable battery and the design of the brush head. The brush head has a large motor section at its base and the brush body has a large cavity to hold it. Water seeps into this cavity and bacteria tend to grow there. You need to clean the cavity periodically to keep the crud in check. I have owned this model long enough that the battery died and I had to buy a new unit. Given my great dental checkups, I replaced it without grumbling.
...

I received the Sonicare Essence 5300 as a gift approx. four years ago from my parents. Before receiving this toothbrush I would use the battery operated brushes from Crest, Colgate etc.. I never really felt that they fully cleaned my teeth.

The Sonicare Essence 5300 has a built in two minute timer which at first I thought, okay no big deal I know I'm brushing for two minutes already. Well after using it for the first time I realized just how short I had been brushing my teeth. The automatic shut off is perfect even for people who need to turn the brush off to spit in the middle of the session because when you restart the brush it continues with the remaining original time.

I also like that since the toothbrush vibrates, you do NOT need to push hard on your teeth. In my case everytime I would brush my teeth with a traditional toothbrush or a battery powered one my gums would bleed. Now, my gums don't bleed during brushing.

The only thing i do not like, is the brush head...
...

The Sonicare Sanitinzing tooth brush.I recieved this toothbrush for a survey. I got to keep it and Iwas so glad that I did! I have never felt like my teeth were so clean before. I put the toothpaste on turn it on and let the toothbrush do its work! I simply run it over my teeth and it even makes cleaning the back teeth a snap! My son loves to use it and the other feature I like it that the heads are interchangeable! We can all use the same toothbrush with different heads. The tops come with different colored rings that can be asigned to each family member so that you don't accidentaly use someone else's. It is also rechargeable so that you don't need to buy batteries every time it runs out. You simply make sure it is plugged in and let it do the work for you! The sanitizer is so awesome too! It makes me feel a little safer - like I am killing some of that nasty bacteria that lives in you mouth! Overall I would say that I love this toothbrush!
...

christopherNJ says "cleans teeth well but messy & hard to clean" about Sonicare Essence e5300 Electric Toothbrush

Although I like the way it works, I have mixed feelings about the Sonicare Essence 5300 electric toothbrush. The first is the price. It's not that it's more expensive than other electectric, it's that with the cost of replacement tooth brush heads ($30 for two) every 3 months, it can add up easily.

It's a bit messy and hard to clean. When you are brushing your teeth it tends to spray if you open your mouth even just a little bit. Since you have to move the tooth brush around it can get messy and I hate cleaning the mirror everytime I brush my teeth.

It is also hard to clean. you can take most of the parts apart to clean, which you should do. However, things seem to get into the cracks and mold can easily build up. The mold can be cleaned, but it is not very appetizing.

As far as the tooth brush action itself, the Sonicare Essence 5300 does work well. It cleans thoroughly and has a two minute timer.

This is my first time with an electric tooth brush, so I'm not sure if...
...

I have always been a person who loves how my teeth feels after a cleaning at the dentist's office. They are smooth as silk. I also don't particularly care going to the dentist. Bad past visits with not so great hygienists and dentists have not helped.

I have tried regular, manual brushes and electric (spin) brushes. My mouth felt much cleaner after I would use the regular brush vs the electric brush. Thus my reluctance on trying the Sonicare...especially due to the price. But after both dentist and friends recommended the Sonicare toothbrush, I decided to try it.

After my first use, I fell in love with the Sonicare Essence 5300. My teeth felt like they had just been cleaned by my dental office.

The true test of the Sonicare came after I had my theeth cleaned. I used my Sonicare for 6 months before having my teeth cleaned again. At that time I asked my hygienist if she thought my cleaning was easier..she said it was. Also, during the measuring of the pockets depths...
...

I cannot say enough good things about the Philips Sonicare Essence e5300 toothbrush. The price is reasonable compared to other rechargeable power toothbrushes, and it does a great job. There are many nights that I don't even have to floss ~ it does that good of a job. The motion of the toothbrush head is not so forceful as to feel like you are being jack-hammered as I have experienced with another reputable brand of power toothbrushes, and it is relatively quiet when in use. The overall design is sleek and does not take up much space on the counter. In fact, the rechargeable base is one of the smallest that I have seen. It has a built in 2 minute timer that turns the toothbrush off. The replacement heads are color coded so that 2 different people can use them without a mix-up.

The ONLY con to this toothbrush is that the replacements heads are expensive. But, they last longer than regular manual toothbrushes.

Bottom line, this toothbrush deep cleans you teeth and stimulates...
...

I bought the Sonicare Essence e5300 for a few reasons. 1. it was recommended by our dentist, 2. we had a coupon. Now both my husband and I use the same kind. It was easy to use. It is a bit messy for my small mouth even though the head and stick parts are small, somehow I still end up will lots of paste around my mouth. It tells you to break up your brushing in your mouth in sections. A. top outside, B. top inside, C. bottom outside, and D. bottom inside. Although, not necessarily in that order. The toothbrush runs for 2 minutes so you get 30 seconds for each section. This is great for making sure you concentrate on all areas. I have noticed that I do get a whiter smile now when I do the outsides first and use whitening toothpaste.

It is recommended to clean your toothbrush periodically. I use a q-tips and the tip of a towel which work well. Some parts of the toothbrush are even diswasher safe!! Make sure you shake off your toothbrush after each brushing so...
...

The Sonicare Essence toothbrush is amazing. It took some getting used to when I first got it as it tickles your mouth so it is almost unbearable. I persisted and after about the third or fourth use of the Soniccare I finally go used to it. I love that it lets you know when to change the area that you are brushing and when you are done. The heads come off easily for cleaning and to change when someone else uses it. It can be cleaned easily in the sink and stores nicecly in the stand that it comes with. It signals when you are done at 2 minutes and if you feel like you didn't quite get everywhere, you can turn it on and brush the area that you missed and then turn it off before two minutes is up. The brush heads last a long time with the bristles staying straight and I have had no problems with the base unit. I would recommend the Soniccare Essence to anyone in the market for an electric toothbrush.
...

Seriously, I don't leave home without it. I have had mine for years. My dental hygientist recommended it because I had a spot where I had a receding gum line. Since I started using this product my numbers haven't changed. My hygeniest noticed a reduction in build up and the amount of time spent in the chair was also greatly reduced. Plus my mouth just doesn't feel clean enough without it. The battery charge still lasts about two weeks even after all of this time. Cleaning is a snap. The replacement heads are somewhat expensive but the clean feeling after use still makes it a good buy. Just remember to put it in your mouth before turning it on!...
