I use the Sling Box to watch TV on my computer, on my phone and in my vacation home when I'm away from home. This product slings media through the internet to another media source. You can have it hooked up to a DVD player, Tivo, cable box, anything. Some people may think who needs this... well you don't need it but it's a fun accessory. I love waiting for something and being bored becuase now I can watch Showtime on my phone. (not all phones have capability, I have a Blackberry Bold)
...

colangw says "Remote TV watching when on the go" about Sling Media - Slingbox

Slingbox Pro Review Title: Remote TV…who knew?

Pros: Pretty good streaming video (but depends on internet connection speeds), no fees

Cons: action video (e.g. sport) can tax your bandwidth

This is a very cool device. I use it to watch TV when I'm traveling. As well, I also use it to watch TV at home on my laptop (in a different room from my TV) via my home wireless connection. The video quality at home is excellent (of course it functions at high network speeds) when it can stream at about 3 Mbps. When on the road the quality depends on the local download speed. I can sometimes hit 600 Kbps which is pretty good for watching sports. Anything less that 300Kbps and the video will be pretty jerky. I even have loaded the version of the player on my Treo 700p. The quality here is surprisingly good, but of course the screen is small. The Treo version is useful for setting my TiVo in case I forgot to do so before leaving the house.

Setup was quite straightforward. I used the automatic......

The SlingBox offers a simple piece of hardware that allows you to watch *your* TV on your PC or Mac. You can even watch your HD over-air on your computer while you watch satellite on your TV itself. Handy for those who don't have, but have an occasional need for more than one TV in the same house and those who travel frequently but want to watch their local news or other channels they receive at home when they're away. It also lets you control your TiVO so that if you forgot to add a show to the to-do list, you can do so remotely. Way cool. No subscription fees is a definite plus....

cuace says "Awesome device once you get it up and running" about Sling Media - Slingbox

I purchased a Slingbox Pro and love it! That is ... after I finally got the Remote Viewing feature up and running. Remote Viewing is the reason most people purchase a Slingbox - it allows a user to view virtually any A/V device from any high speed internet connection in the world.

Initial setup of the Slingbox and the software was a breeze. I was watching and controlling my cable box throughout the house with nothing more than my wireless network.

However, it was very difficult to find out how to set up the Remote Viewing. Turns out there are settings within my router that needed to be set but finding the information on the Slingbox website was next to impossible. I eventually had to contact customer service by phone before getting the information I needed. Their customer service was great and made sure that I understood the steps needed to complete setup.

Once I got past the Remote Viewing setup, everything else worked perfectly.
So far I have connected my cable/satellite box, dvd player,......

mindyrow says "The Slingbox is like taking your living room with you." about Sling Media - Slingbox

I purchased the Slingbox as a christmas gift for my fiance. At the time of purchase, he was traveling out of the country for work. The first couple of trips that he took, he was only able to watch 3 or 4 english channels from the hotel. This is what inspired my purchase.

He was able to set up the Slingbox with minimal effort (he works in the IT field). Once the slingbox was installed on his laptop, he was able to watch regular programming from any location that had interenet access. There is a delay in the signal so if you sit in front of your television you can compare the two images. However, if you are in Mexico....you will never know that there is a delay. :-) When you initially start up the program, there is a little hesitation. However, after the first couple of minutes of viewing, the program runs smoothly.
...

Cat says "Watch Your Home Television from Halfway Around the World" about Sling Media - Slingbox

If you've ever found yourself in a strange hotel room wishing for all the world that you could watch what you TiVo'ed last night, Sling Media's Slingbox might be just the product for you. My husband purchased me a Slingbox for my birthday, knowing well that we could find numerous creative ways to use the product.

About the Slingbox
Explaining the full functionality of a Slingbox is a little complicated, but essentially it's this: If a DVR allows you to timeshift your television watching, enabling you to watch the programs you want at whatever time you want, the Slingbox allows you to placeshift your viewing experience. That is, now you can watch television wherever you want. With a Slingbox and a laptop or mobile PC you can watch your television from any location with Internet connectivity. The Slingbox device retails for about $250, without any additional subscription fees.

How the Slingbox Works
Underneath the complex-sounded technology, Slingbox works by a very simple process. There are...
...
