I loved the Singer machine I grew up with. It had all metal parts and went through a flood where the whole machine was covered in mud, even the parts inside. My uncle cleaned it and it is still working 30 years later.

When I left home my mom bought me a new Singer machine. It worked okay, but there were many plastic pieces.

After awhile, I had problems. I could not figure out how to keep it from getting plugged up with thread.

I bought another machine that had all metal part. It works much better than my Singer, which I still have. Just wish the metal parts would come back.

Looking for a good home sewing machine then you might want to consider purchasing the Singer 7442. It can be used for simply fixing those small rips in blue jeans, hemming, or other household repairs, yet it can accomplish several difficult craft sewing projects such as making a quilted tablerunner.

Because it is not an overly expensive investment it makes for a very good starter machine. It comes with a very detailed instruction booklet that anyone can easily read and understand how to operate and use the machines features. This is a plus.

It would be nice if it came incased, however, it does come with a vinyl covering. I prefer the hard cover casing for storage, transporting, or simply keeping it completely dust free. If these are of no concern then once again it would be a great purchase.

singer sewing machines are the best sewing machines. my parents always bought and used and recommended singer sewing machines to all their relatives friends and there co-workers and neighbors. i was 13 years of age when i got my frst sewing machine for my 13th birthday at my 13th birthday party with all of my friends and relatives and classmates there. there was a lot of jealousy among all of my girl friends that were there that day. a few of my friends even went home that day and asked there parents to get them a portable new singer sewing machine for there next birthday present. singer sewing machines are easy to thread, have little light that gives plenty of light to see to sew by. the bobbin is also easy to load and easy to replace/ it is also easy to learn to sew on. singer sewing machines are very easy to teach others to sew on, the needle guard makes it easy to not be afraid of getting your fingers under the needle, so you don't need to be afraid of getting your finger stabbed. i'm...

Singer Sewing Machine Model 7442's timing goes out and you have to take it in to a repair shop and pay to get it reset (mine is $40 each time). The timing has been out more than it has been in. I was very disappointed becuase I bought this on the singer reputation which was always well thought of by the women in my family.

I received the Singer Sewing Machine Model 7442 as a Christmas gift from my family. It's smooth and easy to operate. I've used it for all my sewing needs. I am satisfied with my Singer sewing machine and would recommend to anyone who wants a simple, all purpose machine to create anything you want to sew.

My singer sewing machine in great! It is user friendly but also has some technical features for more complex sewing. It is easy to load the bobbin and to fill it as well. Easy to thread. Glides will on most fabric. Lightweight but strong enough to sew thick denim....

it works good for me...

It took me a long time to choose a machine that i would like. I always wanted to have a singer model, but i didn't know which one, so i desided to try Model 7442 and it worked for me. It's very easy to use and very easy to work with in general.

It's a good quality for the price.

It will work for anybody, professional or not...

I bought thie Singer 7442 at Sears in November. It had a good review on the internet. I am trying to finish my granddaughters jumpers, which are summer weight material, and the machine will not make a buttonhole through two layers of material without jamming. I have pulled all thread from the area three times. It is going back to Sears. Grandmother in MO...

i bought this sewing machine a year ago when i need to sew a dress for my niece. It work really good and easy to use too. I bought it at wal-mart in my home town. the price is just right. Easy to sew border and thread exchanger is awesome. This embroidery machine work great even my 9 years old niece can help me sew....

Unfortunately I had to take the first one back as the needle was completely misaligned. While you adjust side to side, the needle on that machine was set too far back and kept hitting the feed plate.

I had no problem making the exchange, and for everyday sewing this is a great little machine. It has more functions than an Singer I have owned in the past. (By the way, I still own my first Singer, which is over 50 years old and it sews great to this day)

The only drawback I have experienced with the 7442 is it does not sew thick materials as well as my Singers have in the past.

The SINGER© Model 7442 sewing and embroidery machine is truly awesome...I just love it!!!!! the ultimate in sewing. Use the thread exchanger and embroider with continuous thread changes. Make borders with ease using the continuous hoop which is included. Instructions are now a pop up on the screen and much easier to find and understand. When you run out of bobbin thread the SINGER Model 7442sewing machine will rewind the bobbin right off a spool and thread automatically and continue to sew. No other house hold embroidery machine has these great features plus a large hoop, the ability to do multi-hooping....make life much beautiful!!!

My new Singer # 7442, is an electronic machine. I was very surprised at the price which was a great bargin. ( i've only had my new machine 4 months) Its a dream to use. I've made a two piece suit and a couple pair of dress pants.Believe me, this was my first time sewing in over 4 yrs. With my new Singer I'll sew more often.
