The much-maligned Consumer Product Safety Commission is getting a new chairman.

Moore Tenenbaum, who most recently served as South Carolina's State Superintendent of Education, is President Barack Obama's choice to head the 37-year-old agency. Obama wants to strengthen the CPSC, including increasing the number of commissioners from three to five and providing the board with a hefty budget increase to $107 million, 70% higher than in 2007.

"We must do more to protect the American public--especially our nation's children--from being harmed by unsafe products," Obama said.

No doubt much of Tenenbaum's initial focus will be on products included on the CPSC's "Most Wanted" list. This short list is exclusively comprised of children's products including kid's tool benches, toy magnets, bassinets and cribs.

Too Many Crib Flaws, Too Many Recalls

Last month, the CPSC announced that Toys "R" other retailers and us were recalling about 96,000 cribs manufactured by Jardine Enterprises of Taiwan....

Simplicity for Children Milan Crib Changer Combo looks fairly sturdy. Love the pull out drawer under the crib. Great place to stash extra blankets and crib sheets. Deffinately considering it for my grandchild.

I really like the simplicity crib N changer combo. As long as you put the door on the right way there is nothing wrong with it. It is a very simple crib but I love the changer on the side. I think there is more space in our little ones room since we got a combo. I also like that it changes to a night stand later on. I would definitely recommend the simplicity crib N changer combo to anyone just as long as they make sure they put the door on the right way.

The Simplicity Milan combo crib was fine for a while, and I think it would be OK--even good--for your first child, as long as you don't mind having to use two hands to put the side down. It moves around easily but stays put when you need it to (if no one--like your kids/their friends--"unbrakes" off for you), has everything together (as pictured), etc. The changing table portion (my favorite part of this item), while taller than many, is pretty sturdy and has rails on all four sides. Its smooth flat slats are much easier to clean than round or beveled ones. The pad is nice and smooth, easier to clean than others I've used. I'll probably keep it even if I don't keep the whole furniture unit, in the end.

I think it's pretty cheaply made--thus the price, and the recommendation as good only if you don't have any rough users in the house. There's more than one place on the slats where splinters have been peeled/ripped off and the bottom of the under-crib drawer busted through...

I've had this crib since May '07 and it has been an excellent crib. Now that I am converting it to a toddler be the company (Simplicity) that makes the crib is no longer around. Now I have to either buy guardrails that don't match the bed or a whole new toddler bed.

My in laws bought this crib for our son back in Oct/Nov 2007. I have loved it! The only issue I had was the changing table strap didn't seem to work too well for holding my son down while I changed him.

However, today I have found that the bars going across the bottom for the mattress to rest on are bending! (My son is only 27 lbs) I tried to call the customer service number provided, however I didnt get an answer (it says it is unallocated) I think that the bars should definantly be more sturdy that this, as it is a transitional bed, so weight should not be an issue.

The milan crib changer combo is great. It saves up space and is the perfect color and it is also very economic.Is very practical and goes perfect with any design you may have in the room. It was easy to put together and the best thing it transfors as she gets older so it will be good to have for a while....

I bought the Simplicity Milan 4 in 1 Crib and Changer Combo in April of 2006 when i was about to give birth to my first child and i absolutely loved it, it saves alot of space and money. I am stil usng this crib to this day with my second child. With this crib you don't need to go and buy a crib, a dresser, and a changing table all seperate, it all comes in 1. This crib is absolutely the best crib that has ever been created.

This is the best crib every. With a new baby you need a dressser, a crib and a changing table. This crib combo comes with all of that. Not to mention it saves alot of space. I think this is the greatist invention. I could not be happier with this product....

The pecan Simplicity converter 4-in-1 crib and changing table combo is a wonderful asset to our newborn daughter's nursery. We use it daily. It took my husband and I a while to track down where we could purchase one, but since we found one we love it. It was easy to assemble, and appears to be very durable. Our daughter sleeps very well in it, and we feel that she is safe and secure when she is laying in the crib. The changing table has many shelves and storage space for all her necessities. We would recommend this crib to anyone who is expecting a baby....

Great Idea,

Will definitly get the next baby we have, we didn't see that when we bought our first bed.

We bought the simple white Ikea one for $199 and it it now selling for $139.

Our baby girls is 2 now and rarely sleeps in it but I think the next baby should have the combo.

I Bought this crib last year for my daughter who is almost 2. It was the best crib that i have seen!! It changes into a TODDLER BED, A DAY BED, & also A FULL SIZE BED!! It is a combination of four beds including CRIB! It grows with your children at a reasonable cost. The Changing table also changes into a night stand as your child grows as well. I put it together in less than two hours by myself. Directions were easy to follow! NO REGRETS!!!...

I bought this crib after researching many cribs online. I love that this crib goes from a baby crib, into a toddler bed with guard rail, into a head board and nightstand. It was a very good price for what it all does and has been holding up great! I love the changing table and the drawers and shelves that come with it. It helps keep diapering organized and quick. Overall, my family and I love this bed!...

I love this crib,it seem so convienant and ADORABLE!!! I'm going to get this crib when I have my baby in July.I was kind of skeptical at first but then once i saw all of the things it can do and be changed into,I grew very fond of it and want it.My fiance' thinks it's very convienant as well....
