Shades of Green is a resort hotel in Orlando, Florida owned by the military. As such, you must be active duty military, retired from the service with certain caveats, and some DoD personnel are allowed there. The rates are great because they are based on pay grade. They also arrange transporation to other attractions. They run all the time from open to close, and since the shuttle only stops at Shades of Green, they are not nearly as crowded as the other shuttles for the Disney properties. They've got a pool, a kiddie pool, and a big hot tub. They have a buffet restaurant on the bottom floor. It's good, not great but the price is right if you're bringing a big family. You can get discount tickets for the attractions there, and the sundries store is a PX Shoppette, so no tax and they take the Military Star card. I loved it, and we are retired now and still qualify. When I go to Orlando, it's going to be Shades of Green for me!
...

Shades of Green is a resort hotel in Orlando, Florida owned by the military. As such, you must be active duty military, retired from the service with certain caveats, and some DoD personnel are allowed there. The rates are great because they are based on pay grade and you are allowed to get rooms for immediate family, too. The greatest part are the shuttles to Main Disneyworld, Hollywood Studios, the Disney water park. They also arrange transporation to other attractions. We went to Universal Studios. This resort is considered a Disney property as far as the shuttles are concerned. They run all the time from open to close, and since the shuttle only stops at Shades of Green, they are not nearly as crowded as the other shuttles for the Disney properties. They've got a pool, a kiddie pool, and a big hot tub. The landscaping is lush. I have included some pictures of the property. They might be a little blurry, as they are screen shots from video clips. It's HUGE though. It took me a while...
...

OVERALL EXCELLENT. BREAKFAST AND DINNER AT THE GALLERY WAS EXCELLENT. DINNER AND SERVICE AT MANGINOS WAS BAD. WAITRESS(blonde) NEEDS A LITTLE MORE TRAINING ON CUSTOMER SERVICE. FOOD WAS BAD. MY WIFE ORDERED A GLASS OF SANGRIA, SHE BROUGHT SOMETHING MIXED UP BY THE BARTENDER, NOT SANGRIA.

POOL AND HEATED POOL WAS NICE, EXCEPT FOR A LOT OF KIDS IN WHAT WE WERE TOLD WAS THE ADULT POOL. ALSO KIDS IN THE HEATED POOL.

OUR ROOM WAS EXCELLENT. WE WILL BE BACK. OH YES, I ESPECIALLY LIKED THE LOCATION OF THE PARKING GARAGE.
...

My family and I stayed at this hotel about 10 years ago (before the renovation), tried to stay there during the renovation when they were putting you up at the Contemporary instead, and we have reservations this year to stay for a week.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel and the services it provides. Even when we pay almost the top room rate, it's still a bargain given where it's located; across from the Ticket and Transporation Center.

It's quiet and you can truly get away from the hustle and bustle of the parks and noisy Disney hotels when you need some downtime.

If you have flexible travel dates, it isn't too bad to get a reservation, but if you don't have flexible dates, then you can make reservations a year and a month in advance.

It truly is the best kept military secret....regarding Disney... that is.
...

What a wonderful place to stay! This was recommended to me by a friend. I took my mother there to visit WDW for a week during our spring breaks. We woke up in the morning to singing birds and quacking ducks. The view was beautiful as Shades of Green is located in between two golf courses. Transportation to the TTC was by shuttle bus that ran on a timely manner. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. It was cold outside, but I still took a wee dip in the heated swimming pool in the shape of Mickey's head. The bar and grill has great food and reasonably priced.

Our first night there, we saw the fireworks in the distance at Magic Kingdom from our balcony. Fortunately, there was a family underneath our balcony, and the child was giving the running commentary of who came out when. It was great.

Shades of Green is only available to military members (active, reserve and retired) and their dependants and government employees. If...
...
