We just had this Schwinn Airdyne bike delivered last Friday and and noticed it wasn't the one we thought we had ordered. We'd seen the original Schwinn Airdyne and the newer version with the smaller wheel and less fan. Supposedly that one had a newer construction that was more sturdy. We were so disappointed we'd clicked on the wrong one but by the time my husband got it put together, he was glad he got the older version. The fan from the wheel is just wonderful because normally I have to have a fan blowing on me when I do any exercise or I fry. Not so here. My husband thought the fan would be too much but it's perfect for him as well. The arm handles force you to continually use your arms during the pedaling which is a great workout. I have the seat at the lowest level and that's about right otherwise it hurts the bottom end. The only disappointment is the newer version has a quick release to raise and lower the seat. This one has to be unscrewed and screwed back in. Bit of a pain but...
...

kitten1943 says "SCHWIN - Old time reliable" about Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike

SCHWIN - PEDDLING TO weight loss and health. The "cool breeze" that flows from the front as the fan goes around is like sitting on a beach. It takes away the efforts of peddling in the outdoor heat. SCHWIN was my first bike -- as a kid -- and now my bike as a "big kid of 65". Exercise goes much easier when I sit - add the headphones - and peddle away my worries. Great bike - reliable - old fashion idea with a "fanning" result. I love it AND SCHWIN-ing away my worries and pounds.
...

The Schwinn Airdyne gives a good workout, at whatever intensity you choose. The console has a timer which can count up or down, and shows the results of your ride in terms of calories burned and miles (Just push the button to switch from one to the other). I first used an Airdyne doing physical therapy for my back after being rearended in the car. There are 2 things I would change about it if I could. First, the whir of the fan wheel is quite loud, so if you want to ride while watching TV or listening to the radio, you really have to crank up the volume to hear your program over the bike noise. Also, I would design it so that the handle bars can be immobilized for someone who just wants to pedal. I have carpal tunnel & when it flairs up, gripping things like handle bars can be painful. ...

My husband recently had a hipjoint replaced and this bike was reccomended by his surgeon as the best exercise for his recovery to maintain strength and flexability. He rode it sitting on a chair with the bike tilted upward. He liked the bike and the conditioning he got from it that it has become his main excercise source since his recovery....

Baldric118 says "It provides the right workout when you need it! " about Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike

The Airdyne® Exercise Bike is a simply smart no frills way to get the airobic workout you need. Wind resistance is exponential, so the harder you pedal, the higher the resistance becomes so your level of airobic exercise is increased. This bike naturally provides the right workout for both a novice exerciser or an elite athlete. You will use this! I have an exercise area set up my garage complete with TV so I can exercise while watching my favorite shows or the BIG game....
