Salsero says "SanDisk U3 USB drive is an indispensable part of my tech life" about SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro U3 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

- The U3 technology allows for the use of PC software directly from the USB device. Nothing gets installed to the PC. It's like you were never on the machine.

- You can carry encrypted or unencrypted information that is accessible from any PC that has a USB port. So far I have found over 50 free software programs that run directly from it such as FoxIt PDF Reader, WinZip, OpenOffice, EverNote, TeamViewer and Firefox to mention a few. I have found information on converting existing PC software to U3 versions. There is also a software development kit that allows you to create U3 software from scratch.

- The word is out that the U3 software won't run under MS Vista. This is not the case. After you connect the device to a PC, open My Computer then open the U3 System drive. You must right-click the file LaunchU3.exe then select Run as Administrator. Some newer versions of the U3 software will ask about scanning the device. Select Don't Scan and Continue.

- Some folks don't...
...

Katrena says "Great price (on sale) and convenient flash drive" about SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro U3 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

I have used this Sandisc 2GB USB Flash Drive for about six months and have been pleased with it. My favorite feature of this product is the retractable USB connector. I have had previous flash drives with a removable cap, and I like this one much better. Although I never lost the cap on my previous one, I had to hunt more than once for that cap.

I use my flash drive regularly for loading pictures to print and also for transferring PowerPoints I have created for teaching purposes. The Powerpoints tend to be large files, so I've had to delete some files in order to load others on it. I probably need an 8 GB at some point, but I'm OK with deleting what I don't need at this point.

My Sandisc USB Thumb Drive has worked fine on my computer, which is loaded with Windows XP. I believe I saw a review mentioning that it may not work well with Vista, so if you have Vista, you may want to check out the other reviews here on this product.

The only problem I've experienced with this pen drive is that my...
...

I've owned this flash drive for a year now. I have most of the big names in flash drives, Sandisk, lexar, Kingston, Sony. I really haven't had any problems with any of them. Whatever is on sale, I will buy. I use this particular drive to hold my music that I listen to on my car stereo. With over 500 songs currently on the drive, I still have around 3/4 of unused space. I like the retractable plug in and the Sandisk name. I did have to erase the U3 software as it is incompatable with my car stereo, just go to their site to get removal instructions....

The cruzer is a wonderful product! I take this thing everywhere I go. The retractable connector is a great plus (no more lost caps). I have never had any issues out of it. The ability to password protect this little jewel is another great plus. Overall great product!...

I've found this drive to perform fantastically. Using it on an XP Pro system, no additional software is needed to operate this drive. Transfer times are very acceptable, and drive is durable and handy. U3 software is incompatible with Vista, but the manufacturer's website gives instructions for deleting the U3 partition so that Vista users can free up additional space on the drive....

I find this flash drive useful and quite easy to use. I have not run into any problems with it yet, and love that it comes with a retractable USB connector and a lanyard. This way, it is hard to damage and lose. It is also a really great price. I recommend this flash drive to everyone!...

toppert111 says "Excellent storage space for the money - but Vista users beware" about SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro U3 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

This flash drive is a good value for the amount of storage space provided. I picked up for under $20. The drive itself is convenient because it is small and with the retractable USB connector you don't have to worry about losing the caps like other flash drives I've owned.

The U3 software available was a nice option for keeping a calendar on hand rather than carrying my PDA, but when I recently upgraded the home computer with one that contains MS Vista, I found that it would not recognize the drive due to imcompatibility with the U3 software. The only workaround I could find in searching was to remove the U3 functionality on an XP system I have access to. Because Sandisk has yet to provide a fix for this issue, I would not recommend to most people unless you have access to other computers when it comes time to upgrade to Vista since the U3 removal tool will not work on Vista since it does not recognize the drive when the software is on it.
...
