berninini says "Doesn't work with you to pay off your loans" about Sallie Mae Student Loans

I have all of my student loans through Sallie Mae. Although I feel that their service is acceptable, I have several thoughts about it. First of all, their website is exceedingly difficult to navigate. Headers are misleading and it is often difficult to get back to where you want to go. I do, however, enjoy that once I can find them, my loans are divided very visually and I can see exactly how much of my payments have been attributed to each. Secondly, I have had HUGE issues paying off extra on my loans. As an aggressive saver, I have calcuated how much I will save by paying my loans off significantly early. Each time I make an extra payment, I have to send an email to the company (which in itself is very very difficult to find and navigate) and then wait several weeks for the payment to be appropriately applied. Sometimes this never happens at all. It is very very frustrating. In addition, anytime that I have tried to call the company to verbally communicate an issue, I am greeted...
...

pitcherday says "Completely satisfied with my SallieMae experience" about Sallie Mae Student Loans

I have been with SallieMae for longer than I care to admit. I probably should have paid my loans off a while ago, but that is MY fault and not the loan servicing company's. I originally took out my student loans at a local bank, and they were bought by SallieMae. I have not been bounced around and had my loans bought and sold by various companies, and I consider myself lucky in that respect. I have heard more than one horror story from other students about that.

When I graduated from college, I had the full payment (principle and interest)automatically debited from my bank account. It was that way for years. I fell on hard times, overcame them, and now I am unable to work. I have not had steady work since 2002. Some may think it is a bad thing that SallieMae offers deferments, forbearances, and extended payment plans, effectively "trapping" you in "loan limbo." SallieMae does not refuse payments over the minimum. You don't ONLY have to pay the minimum.

I am happy for all of these options....
...

Bryan-Carey says "Sallie Mae: Easy Loan Approval, but Questionable in Other Areas" about Sallie Mae Student Loans

One thing about college is true more than any other: College costs a good deal of money and the majority of students are constantly in need of extra cash. More often than not, loans are part of the financial aid equation and among all the loan providers, one service stands out in the crowd. That service is Sallie Mae Servicing, the popular education loan company.

Student Loan Service Commentary:

Sallie Mae is the best- known name in student loans and it is the first place many students turn when they need to borrow money to complete their schooling. Sallie Mae actually began operation as a government- run company, but today it is completely independent with no remaining government ties and is now a publicly traded stock.

Sallie Mae is first and foremost a student loan operation and I became very familiar with this company when I was a struggling university student trying to cover my student balance each semester so that I wouldn't get dropped from classes. Back when I was a Sallie...
...

gstall32 says "Convient student loans" about Sallie Mae Student Loans

SallieMae makes it really easy to apply and receive a student loan. Even someone who has bad or no past credit history can be accepted with a co-signer. My co-signer had excellent credit, but my interest rate was still pretty high for the prime being so low right now. Where they lack in interest rates, they make up in customer service. I've called them several times and each time I called, I speak with a clear talking, polite person who seems to be there to help me out and not just try to cheat me out of money. At the end of each conversation they give you the option to take a survey about how well there rep did, which shows me they are always trying to improve on how well their customer service is....

Sallie Mae makes it very easy for you to lower your payments on your student loan. Unfortunately it means you will owe them forever. Of course by lower payment I mean youpay the interest only but non of the actuall amount owed. My student loan is higher today 15 years after graduation than it was when I graduated....
