No special bags just put a garbage bag in and you are good to go. Lid closes tight on the top to keep the smell in. Just press the foot petal to open it to put the mess in the pail. <br/><br/>It does smell a little when it is open with a lot of smelly ones in it, but it goes away when it is closed and you can't smell it when it is closed. I like to put a couple of garbage bags in it at a time and when it gets full just pull it out and tie it up and put it with the rest of the garbage. I like the fact that you don't have to buy special bags for it. My regular tall kitchen garbage bags fit perfect in it. <br/><br/>Forget all the other contraptions this is all you need for a smelly diaper.</p>... Tue, 04 Mar 2008 02:05:37 GMT http://www.viewpoints.com/Safety-1st-Diaper-Pail-review-48aa2 ally 5 http://www.viewpoints.com/Safety-1st-Diaper-Pail-review-ae4d0 This diaper pail may not look fancy, well that's because it's not.  If you are looking for something that you have to bend down to use, or shove a dirty diaper into and then twist several times, this is NOT it!<br/><br/><em>Nope</em>, this is a diaper pail of old days, before things like throwing away a dirty diaper became an event.  All you do to operate the Safety 1st Pail is step on the foot pedal and toss the diaper in.  No bending, no twisting.  And even better...NO SPECIAL BAGS!!  You can use an old grocery bag or a small trash bag (I recommend the latter b/c it is bigger and holds more stinky diapers).  <br/><br/>How does it combat the smell, you ask??  Well, simple.  In the lid of the pail there is a place that holds a stick-up (or something similar) air freshener.  We have been using ours for 16 months now and I have had to change the stick-up twice!  <br/><br/>Bottom line:  Don't waste your money on fancy pails that will frustrate you and only cost you <em>MORE</em> money to buy bags to put in them.  The Safety......
