Me and my family took a 3 night Bahamas cruise aboard Monarch of the Seas recently and overall, had a fairly relaxing, fun, and enjoyable vacation. The food in the dining rooms, the informal buffet, the pizza parlor, and the Saturday midnight buffet was all exceptionally served by the staff who were curtious and professional, and tasted great! However, icecream from the Ben & Jerry's and items from the coffee shop both cost extra. The cost of the cruise was fairly reasonable. For me, me wife, and our young son, it came to a total of around $750. Considering that you could easily pay over a thousand dollars for just a couple, I was pleased with the price. However, you really do "get what you paid for". The interior cabin we recieved was EXTREMELY small. It was basically no bigger than the inside of a standard SUV, and for 3 people sharing the one room, it was very tight. Not to mention that the bathroom was even more horrifyingly small than the room itself. The shower was so small, you...
...

So i took a 4 day Royal Carribean Cruise on Monarch of the Seas to the Bahamas recently. Never having been on a cruise I was a little diappointed. All my cruise goer friends told me how attended to I would be and how friendly the staff would be but...I did not feel that.

The cruise itself was smooth, no sea sickness here but things looked dated from the 80 throughout the ship. The variety of food was smaller thank i expected and not as tastey as everyone raved.

The service at dinner was poor, at least at our table, at other tables it looked great, so we only attended formal dinner once and ate at the cafe the rest of the time. Also they seemed to limit meals during the times we were hungry for meals...

The selection of merchandise to but was adequate but the deals weren't too great.

I did however really enjoy the entertainment on board with great musicals and funny Social Directors. Also their private Island Coco Kay was great. Very tropical and convinient with chairs,...
...

I recently embarked on a 3-night cruise (Fri. - Mon.) on Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas out of Port Canaveral, FL. I had cruised Royal Caribbean before, so I was anticipating a wonderful time full of incredible service, delicious food and relaxation. The ship was to spend a full day in Naussau, Bahamas and a partial day on Cococay, Royal Caribbean's private island, also in the Bahamas. As many cruise lines are offering right now, this cruise was very inexpensive, only $150 (+ taxes and port fees) for an "ocean view" cabin. The grand total was $298.00 per person, and I did choose to purchase an excursion which added another $30. Although I would consider the overall experience pleasant, it wasn't the "5-star" treatment that I was accustomed to from Royal Caribbean. My friend and I made it to dinner in the main dining room 2 of the 3 nights, and the food was, well, not very good. The menu was standard, but I had expected a bit more creativity, and better quality. The...
...

Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas, as cruise ships go, is nothing remarkable. It is one of the oldest ships sailing with the mainstream cruise lines in the U.S. While it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of the ships built in the last 10 years, she has a everything you could want in a 3-4 night cruise. The staff is very friendly, the food is good, and the entertainment is spot on for this type of getaway. The ship does the same run of 3 & 4 night Bahamas cruises year round.

For ~$250/pp (including all taxes and fees) you can enjoy a nice trip to the Bahamas including a day in Nassau and a day on RC's private island resort. ...

Just got back from the Christmas cruise 2008. The water was so rough we couldn't stop at Cococay, not safe for the tenders to take us back and forth to the ship, so we went straight on to Nassau. Stayed docked for 2 nights in Nassau. Even though we had poor weather until the last day, our sail back, overall the trip was great. Plenty of food, quality was good, waiter at dinner was excellent, great sense of humor. Saw a magic show, the magician was fantastic. Casino was small and had no luck at all. We also went to Paradise Island to Atlantis. That was awesome also! My daughter's favorite passtime was riding up and down in the glass elevator in the lobby although there are many other things to do, like rock climbing, fitness room, spa, teen disco, kids play area, toddler play area, shuffleboard on deck, and many lounges. Overall, the cruise was a success and we hope to sail again someday....

We went on this cruise for our honeymoon. It was affordable and the staff made it so nice and fun! I've never been on a cruise before, but I loved every minute of it! There's a ton to do at the ports and tons to do on the boat! I look forward to cruising again in the future!

One downfall was that on the excursions you can choose from, if you don't get your #1 choice for a port of call, they don't give you your #2 choice even though they ask you what your second choice would be. That was a downer for us one of the days. We also learned that on the Catalina Island stop, we would rather have created our own excursion by putting the money into renting a golf cart and going exploring ourselves-- but we used our bugeted money on the snorkeling on the island and it wasn't very pretty snorkeling.
...

Monarch of the Seas - March 2007 - 5-day Baha cruise -ex LA

My wife and I love to cruise and have done so for over 20 years, travelling to every continent in the world. Having cruised with most of the cruise lines during that time on some of the smallest to largest ships in their respective fleets we perhaps have some insight into what we like and dislike and what is good and bad. Twenty years ago the cruise experience was somewhat different to what it has now become and catered historically for upper middle class and above passengers. The classic seperate "Class" ships having different dinning rooms and lounges depending on what grade of stateroom you had booked still existed in the 1980's. The largest and fastest ship built during that decade was Cunards QE2, which is still in service until the end of 2008.

The modern supercruiseliners still have different grades of staterooms depending on how deep passengers pockets are but apart from that, every passenger aboard enjoys the same...
...

I have taken this cruise quite a few times. The staff is great and the food is good. You will never go hungry as there is always something to eat (24 hour pizza if you get hungry late night).

The sit down dinners are good. The show is cheesy but fun.

For breakfast, I like to go to the restaurant and eat a sit down breakfast where you can order off of the menu instead of the buffet. But, the buffet is good too. It just depends on what you feel like.

For kids they have the Adventure Ocean club which has different activities for the little ones to do. It can be anything from playing on the computer, putting on a mini show, making space mud, coloring, a scavenger hunt all over the ship, ice cream socials, etc. The Adventure Ocean is broken down into different age groups so the activities are appropriate for the age group.

They also have a rock climbing wall, basketball court, shuffleboard, ping pong, a gym, 2 pools and jacuzzi as well as shows and activities throughout the day...
...

I just got back from a 4 day cruise on the Monarch of the Sea with my sister and two other girlfriends. We flew from Chicago to LA and cruised to Ensenada Mexico. Maybe it was the company I had or the fact that it was 80 degrees but we had a great time. The staff was wonderful, our room was small yet our cabin attendant helped to keep it very clean. The food was good, the wine was plentiful and the laughs seemed to go on forever. We chose to be put at a large table for dinner so we could meet other people. We had a great time with the 6 others they put us with. Unfortunately the casino wasn't as friendly as the rest of the cruise. I left too much money in that room! Ensenada was very nice. We decided to rent ATV's while there. It was an absolute blast. They had us put bandana's over our faces, put on helmets and goggles. What a sight we were! The excursion went on for almost 3 hours and we ended up at a winery. That was a good way to end.

If you are looking for a quick 3-4 day get away I...
...

My wife and I booked the Monarch Of The Seas for a Valentines Day vacation. When we arrived at the pier, we found the cabin assignment was different from our original booking; hence, our luggage tags pointed to the wrong cabin. I immediately brought this to the attention of Guest Services upon boarding the ship. After describing the bags, the mislabeled tags, and the situation, I was told not to worry...the bags would show up at our cabin. After three hours and no bags, I returned to Guest Relations and again was told not to worry. At 9pm, 7 hours after boarding, I insisted that they search for the bags. I was sent to an inspection area where they hold bags that fail the security screening and found 2 of our 3 pieces of luggage. I returned to Guest Relations to inform them that one bag was still missing and it contained our formal wear. After I had to argue that USAir did not loose the bag, they promised to search the ship. Four days later, on the last day of the cruise, I received......
