I purchased an iRobot Discovery about 5 years ago-today cannot live with out it.

Hubby and I have actually grown to find it indispensable- her name is Helga

She's on her last legs and needs to be replaced. One thing to keep in mind is that these appliances are not vaccuums they are actually sweeps. Make sure that you always have 'god' batteries in the virtual walls as they will prevent iRobot from making stair 'tumbles' and to go where it isn't supposed to. Wish the price would come down though.

I love, love, love this vacuum. We recently adopted a 75 pound long haired German Shepard and he sheds like crazy. My kids were covered in dog hair all the time and I was spending a fortune on tape rollers to remove the hair. I did not have time to vacuum my entire house on a daily basis (who does). We thought let's give the roomba a try but heard so many mixed reviews we were afraid to make the investment. Finally, we couldn't take it anymore and broke down and purchased it. WOW!!! No more hairy kids. Now if you are looking for a vacuum that cleans that has outstanding performance this is not the vacuum. I still use my upright every other week. This is a vacuum to do in between deep cleaning. You can't beat the convenience. It is an absolute time saver. Make sure you read the instructions particularly regarding getting the most out of the battery. If you follow the instructions you will get a long life out of the battery. If not you will spend a fortune replacing...

I just LOVE this product, this is a MUST HAVE, it's simply amazing, outcleans any upright vacuum I've ever owned and it just doesn't get any easier than this! I now have time to do other things instead of constantly vacuuming. I also got my Mom one for Mother's Day and she'll never use anything else, talk about a great gift for someone, I never seen her so happy!

I like to keep my home clean, so I vacuum everyday. My sister and I purchased the i robot roomba for my mom for Christmas last year because she had heart surgery and could not vacuum. She likes it but I don't because it doesn't pick up dirt that good. It leaves sand on the rug and other things. It's good for her. It's expensive and it doesn't do such a good job at picking up dirt. Iroomba - had for 2 years, then battery died. It actually fried the unit so had to get another one. Manufacturer offered us 30%off new one - NOT a great deal since the units are defective. Useful for making a room look vacuumed. I spend a lot of time cleaning out lint, hair, junk from rollers....

In December of 2007, my husband and I saw a TV advertisement for the Roomba Discovery. We never really spent much on eachother for Christmas, but decided this would be a perfect shared gift for that year. We ordered it and it was shipped promptly. After using it for over a year now I don't think I could do without it. The remote control made it so easy to keep my floors clean during a 6 week recoup period after surgery. I never could have pushed my regular vacuum during that time. Kudos to Roomba....you're always welcome in my house. Did I mention that I have a long haired dog and 3 cats? Cleaning the brushes and dumping the bin after each run is not a problem for me personally. I would recommend this Roomba and the other models to anyone!...

While visiting my son, I seen the Roomba advertised on t.v. Well, it just seemed like the miracle I was looking for so I went straight to the phone & ordered it. Could not wait for my little robot to arrive to clean while I worked. As I got it all set up, I thought this is going to be great.....put it down & let it do the work. NO WAY! It got tangled up in my drapes, it got into my wiring, it feel down the foyer steps though it claims it will turn if it gets on the edge of something, it got tangled up in the bedskirt as it tried to go under the bed & I finally said "Okay, you've done enough damage....go home". So, I boxed it back up & returned for a full refund. I truly wish they would work this thing out that it would work but it just does not pick up the dirt the way it says it will & was a constant worry while running to the point that I couldn't do my other work. It was like having a 2 yr. old going through the house to see what it could get into....

The Roomba Discovery was our choice for something to keep upstairs to run quickly instead of lugging our heavy Dyson up and down the stairs consistently. Our expectations were that it would do a good job but not as good as our Dyson. In the end, the roomba has not met our expectations, even though they are low.

The Roomba does not have much suction and therefore does not pick up dust or pet hair nearly as well as we expected.
The Roomba does not work in rooms that have a lot of furniture or furniture that is not all up against the wall.
The Roomba does not work at all in large rooms, like our bedroom which is 25x18.
The Roomba can get stuck under dressers and other such things.
It often has trouble finding its home base
It is frustrating to watch because its so inefficient.
It gets caught up in power cords and cables easily, so preparing a room may take more time than vaccuuming it with another vaccuum.
It doesn't even handle a 10x12 room for us completely without having lost its charge....

I love it because it keeps my floors clean. I can't live without it because everyday after breakfast, I turn it on and my 1 year old chases it around the house while my 2 year old goes around picking up toys so "Mommy's Woomba won't get it".

I've never had any problems with it at all. I don't mind cleaning it everytime, all you do is dump it out over the garbage can and clean out the brushes once in a while. I still have to use my old vacuum once in a while and I can't believe I used to have to do the whole house like that! Ugh, vacuuming is, like, so barbaric!

I love my Roomba! We have wood and tile floors all throughout our upstairs, and I hate sweeping or vacuuming hard floors. Roomba does it for me. He (we call him "he") gets under furniture, into little crevices, truly amazing. I have used Roomba on carpet too, although not enough to rate it. I definitely recommend Roomba for hard floors, and as a great conversation piece!

I love my roomba, his name is Antonio, and he cleans up my floors after my family everyday. I have five cats, and two dogs, and he finds and picks up lots of hair. Before I got my roomba, I had to vacuum all the time, as well as sweep several times a day, now I just run my regular vacuum once a week to get into the tightest corners and under the funiture the roomba can't reach. When it's done, it goes back to it's charging station and recharges itself. I had an issue with the brushes, called customer service and they took care of it immediately for us, and were so helpful and friendly. I am amazed that it works so well, and it is alot of fun to watch....

My husband and I went to a function which gave out prizes. I won one of those roomba machines and even though I was skeptical about this little item's ability to clean, I gave it a try.

I have 2 cats, a dog and a parrot. I am forever cleaning up fur and feather mess so I was pleasently surprised when I placed my roomba on the floor and turned it on. I left for work and came home to a clean floor!

The unit is very light weight, about 5 pounds I believe. You have to charge the battery for about 7 hours, which I do over night. You have to make sure throw rugs and very tiny toys, like the size of a marble, have been picked up. Once charged and you are ready to go, place roomba on the floor, hit the green button then clean. The little unit makes a sound then begins by going in a circle which gets larger and larger and finally goes on it's merry way.

Don't worry about furniture being in the way, this little unit has a bump and go action that keeps it moving. The unit itself is only about 6 inches......

I bought the Roomba Discovery for my mom less than a year ago. I purchased it through Hammecher Schlemmer after reading reviews that if there were any problems, they have a lifetime guarantee on their products, returns are no problem. WRONG!!!! I bought an extra battery when I bought the Roomba so that my mom could have a spare while the one is charging. About 6 or 8 months after purchase, both batteries died. I was so glad I had bought it through Hammecher Schlemmer because they should replace the batteries without any hassle. I called & explained the situation & was told to go ahead & return the batteries for an exchange. I returned TWO batteries. Only received ONE back, with no explanation as to where my other one is. I have since called, now 4 times, trying to find out where my other battery is & so far I've been told it's on it's way, they don't show I returned 2 batteries (luckily I keep copies of all my papework!), I was hung up on, left on hold and now have just left a message......

The Roomba is a perfect helper for anyone! You'd be surprised at what it picks up each time I run it. My wood floors look clean, but it retrieves something each time I use it! I have bought 4 over the course of time - 1 for me, and 3 as presents. One of the best gadgets (pet?) that I have ever had!

But there are some caveats:
1. Long hair get wrapped up in the rotary brush. Cleaning is a hassle - I have to do that every time I use it for an extended period of time.
2. Battery life does dissipate after using it for 2+ years.

Roomba Discovery IRobot is a great little gadget. We really like it - it allows us to multitask when getting ready for guests, which is a great time-saver. While Roomba is vacuuming, I am preparing food, and my husband is setting the table - work great! However, it gets caught between chair legs, and then we have to rescue it, but it's still worth the money......
