jmachete says "Nothing special, but devilish entertaining." about Reaper

My sentence says it all. An old plot with a modern twist. The characters are likeable enough. This show sets out what it is intended to do, strictly entertain the viewers, and that's what it does. I would recommend it for anybody who likes to use TV for the old fashion purpose of escaping the mundaneness of everyday life....

This show is great. It is one of the few shows that I watch (I tivo it).

I really dig the sci-fi ish aspect but the humor is what keeps me watching.

It is not a laugh a minute type of show but one that does make me laugh out loud at least 3-4 times an episode. It also has WONDERFUL one liners that are worth repeating....

A great show I watch with my teenage sons. Characters are so funny - the devil is a riot. A little off-beat but not as odd as Pushing Daisies. We love it! Can't wait to see what will be used to catch the next soul and send them back down. Even the little bit of romance thrown in is funny - is the new girlfriend the devil's daughter? Oops, the new roommates are demons. We don't miss an episode. ...

I enjoy this show a lot. initially, I figured the premise would get old but so far, they've done a good job. the character of the devil in particular is really good. I could do without sock's, chunky guy chin strap and Kevin smith's chunky guy involvment however. also, the andy character blows...she's a really lame, whiny hoebag....

katzen says "Where the difference between good and evil becomes wickedly fun." about Reaper

In a season of overly dramatic reality shows and overdone crime dramas, Reaper emerges as something completely fresh and fun - a dark comedy that is reminiscent enough of teenage years to be endearing and demonic enough to be shockingly humorous.

Our Reaper story begins on Sam's 18th birthday when he discovers that his parents sold the soul of their first born for the mother's health. Of course, the couple never planned on having children after that, but the Devil is a tricky soul. Unfortunately for Sam, he's their first and only born child and the Devil has come to collect. Of course, it would be terribly typical and short-lived if the program revolved around Sam's attempt to escape the Devil's clutches or if he just became innately evil, but fortunately for us, the viewing audience, that is not the case. No, Sam is employed by the Devil to do good - well, as good as the Devil probably gets. Sam becomes a "reaper", a collector of really bad souls who have escaped Hell's hold. What ensues...
...

Funny Funny show! One of the best to come out this season. I watched it primarily because Kevin Smith worked on it and is still listed as consulting, but once I watched it I was completly hooked! When the Devil gave him a snow globe as a vessel I about fell out of my chair laughing!...

jadedk says "so addicting" about Reaper

im a kevin smith fan so when i heard he was directing a pilot for the new cw i thought id check it out..the show was reaper and its now my teusday nite addiction. for those who havent seen this show yet lemme kinda catch you up: "Sam lives at home with his parents in the Seattle area. He has always wondered why his Mom and Dad were so easy on him, whether it was sports, school, or career choices, and so hard on his younger brother, Keith. Sam dropped out of college ("It made him sleepy", his mother explains) and takes a dead-end job at the 'Work Bench', (a home-repair superstore similar to Home Depot) He spends the rest of his time hanging out, playing video games, and pining for his co-worker Andi. On Sam's 21st birthday, his parents are behaving very strangely and Sam himself is seeing hellish visions and experiencing odd events. His father eventually explains that they had promised their firstborn child to the Devil because Sam's father was very sick. Although the couple intended to......

Reviewer's Note: This review is based on, and mostly about, the series premiere of this show. If this show goes downhill, I'll update the review as necessary.

I was a bit weirded out, to say the least, when the new fall show I wanted to see more than any other was going to air on the CW Network. It'd be like being excited about a Fox show in 1988.

But such was the case with Reaper. The idea felt like the defunct Showtime series Dead Like Me ran head on into Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I never watched Buffy, though people tell me I'd probably like it).

Bret Harrison (best known for being the neighbor on Grounded For Life, also was on the under-rated and now cancelled The Loop) plays Sam Oliver, a young slacker working at a Home Depot type big box store. On his 21st birthday, his parents tell him that before he was born, they sold his soul to the devil, and that the transfer happens when he turns 21.

Before long, the Devil (Ray Wise) has arrived. He informs Sam that he'll be a sort...
...
