TJtheDJ says "So far, so good." about RCA - RS 2664 CD Player
I bought the RCA RS2664 at Wal-Mart for $99. I had purchased a Sharp model a few weeks ago, but the CD trays locked up and would not open or close. It seems that bookshelf systems are fussy that way, I guess. The previous reviewer is correct that this system is a little large, but the sound quality is very good. We have our unit in our basement, primarily for my teenagers. They can hook their mp3 players up to it via the USB port, and it works very nicely as an extra stereo system for our home. For the price, I think the RCA RS 2664 is an very good value....

Saxguy says "The CD mechanism locked up making it useless" about RCA - RS 2664 CD Player

I had seen this system at Best Buy and bought it when another model, a Sharp ES240 failed.

I was looking for good, loud sound and a reliable mechanism so I could put at least 3 different CDs in it, the ones I use most frequently for play alongs with my students. This was rated at 300 watts and had a 5-cd mechanism.

The sound was fairly good, particularly with the mega bass and surround sound adjustment. However, it seemed no more powerful that the Sharp unit which was rated at 180 watts and less powerful than the unit I replaced it with, an LG shelf system rated at 160 watts.

It was also a little too large for the space, so I had one of the speakers on the floor.

From the start, I had problems with CDs skipping, which would get better with cleaning, but still much more than with the Sony Boom Box I had used for years.Worse, the CD mechanism locked up and I had to turn the power off and shake the unit to get the CD in there out.

So, I cruised the DJ supply sites to see what the pros were...
...
