bkovacs says "Not quite horror, not quite a thriller... mostly just dull" about Premonition

My latest Netflix rental was Premonition, starring the almost always likable Sandra Bullock. And that about sums it up -- she was almost likable in Premonition.

First we meet the family of Jim and Linda Hanson (Julian McMahon and Sandra Bullock), which includes two young and pretty daughters. Linda drops them off at school and goes about her usual day of shopping, laundry and simple domestic tasks. The next thing she knows, a policeman arrives at the door to tell her that her husband died the day before. Linda's friends and mother arrive to help her grieve, and Linda does the unthinkable task of telling her children that their father is dead. The next morning, Linda wakes up with her very much alive husband in bed next to her.

This cycle repeats a couple of times -- Linda's husband is dead, then Linda's husband is alive. Which is it? How did her daughter get terrible cuts all over her face? Who was the pretty blonde woman at Jim's funeral? Can Jim's death be somehow avoided?

Parts of...
...

ashleyrae314 says "Very unexpected twist" about Premonition

Many remember Sandra Bullock from movies like Miss Congeniality and Hope Floats. However, this is one movie many people would not have expected her to star in a role like this one, Premonition. Her character suffers from not being able to distinguish the day she is living from a fantasy or reality. Many details are jumbled together about her husband's death, however they do not happen in a particular order....

TheBard says "Um Okay, that was different" about Premonition

Bottom-Line: In the final analysis Premonition is a confusing, head scratching (I know redundant term) mess, a riddle, wrapped inside a puzzle that cannot be solved, at least by this reviewer.
Now I consider myself a pretty intelligent guy; rocket scientist no (but I suppose I could be if I had wanted to be), but a fairly intelligent man as far as humans go. So why for the life of me can I not figure out what the hell Premonition (2007), staring Sandra Bullock and Julian McMahon, was all about? I mean really, how convoluted can one make a plot before the audience just loses all interest? Premonition should be the case study in how not to make an intriguing film!

My Viewpoint

In an attempt to be clever Premonition ended up a rather convoluted and unmanageable mess from a viewer's standpoint. The movie was hard to follow almost for the start and halfway into the 96 minute movie I lost interest in even trying. Part of the problem was the poorly put together script; there was...
...

I love a good thrill/mystery type movie, so this was on my list of to-see movies. Plus, I like Sandra Bullock and am a big fan of Julian McMahon. This movie does deliver, if you like the type of movies with twists and turns every 5 seconds, and one that takes you back and forth over and over. I don't mind all the twists and other plot turns, etc, but this one was a little too all over the place for me, and I think they tried to make it such a mind bender that they forgot to answer many questions that I found in the movie. I don't like to over-analyze movies, but I found myself doing just that with this movie.

The story:
The movie stars Sandra Bullock and Linda and Julian McMahon as Jim, her husband. The movies starts out as a flash of when they were newly married, before children, and Jim getting his promotion and surprising her with a new, large house and telling her that they have to fill up those extra rooms with children. Fast forward to present, and they have 2 young daughters. Jim......

loneranger says "Good if you pay attention to detail." about Premonition

This movie was pretty good. Although confusing at first. This is the type of movie that is similar to trying to put a puzzle together. You don't quite get the picture very clearly until the pieces start coming together. It has plenty of suspence and grabs your attention from the beggining of the movie all the way to the end. Sandra Bullock was definitely not one of my favorite actresses but I have to say, the performance she gave in this film was very good. She reminded me of Jodie Foster. I think that with that I say everything. All in all I say this was a good movie and again it's one of those puzzle movies. Definitely need to pay attention so that you can understand what's going on....

I don't believe it would have been half as good with anybody else in the part. Sandra Bullock has developed into a well rounded actress. I really enjoyed her performance. I also wondered if I would have reacted similarly....

This movie stars Sandra Bullock in one of her best rolls to date. Premonition is an interesting movie that starts with the ending first. Unfortunately though, by the time it gets near the end, you have already figured out what happens next. This is by no means, one of the year's best movies, but it does take you for quite a ride.....

Premonition was one of those movies where all of the best scenes were shown during the previews. It was so confusing that it was hard to follow. If I were you I would not waste my money on goingto see it of renting it just wait until it comes out on TV. The best part of the movie is the casting and that is it....

I have always liked Sandra Bullock, and I really loved this movie. I love movies that you have to keep up with and definately had a plot that is different which I also liked. You had to keep up with what was going through out. I really felt bad for her and that the ending wasn't what you thought it would be....

mariposa326 says "Heh? " about Premonition

I was really excited to see this movie since the previews make it seem like it would be so good. Let's just say I was really let down instead. The story felt like it was going to pick up over and over (and over and over) again, but it never did, or at least I never did. The story was a good idea because it wasn't the same old one that's been done a hundred times over, but it ended up not being as good as we thought it would be. It was one of those films that showed most of the good scenes in the previews and kind of lets the audience down when they're watching it....

ljuarez says "Very Slow but a good movie, suspenseful" about Premonition

At first I thought this Sandra Bullock film was going the way of her other movie Hope Floats which was depressing from beginning to end. This movie was kinda slow and it was sad at times. It was also a little hard to follow. I would recommend watching the bonus features o get a better understanding of the movie. This really turned it around for me. The concept of the whole thing was good. at times I was rooting for the husband and other times I was rooting for Sandras character and was kinda glad he was dead. Inthe end there was a twist that changed everything. Definately one to try....

Sandra Bullock is an awesome actress and I enjoyed her character in this film. The story line; however, was a little confusing. It was hard to distinguish which part of the movie was real and what was a dream. I was happy at the end, yet I did not know if it was still a dream or if it was the real end of the story....

liljimmy says "Too confusing.." about Premonition

My wife talked me into watching this and I expected the plot to be something to the affect where she had to change time to stop the death of her husband. Kind of to the point where everything had to be in place the day she thought he had died. So here I was memorizing the first scene. Then the plot was jumping all around and my wife had to start explaining scenes to me. I love action movies and movies where you have to think but this was crazy. I do enjoy Sandra Bullock alot but I was getting so confused. Near the end my wife figured out what was happening - I still am not sure how. Not something I would watch again but if you can like Sandra I would watch it for that reason....
