grannygreen says "ove my duaoer gebue" about Playtex Diaper Genie Pail

my Playtex Diaper Genie Pail is the best invention ever! My mother has one of the original diaper genies. It was nice, but when I moved away and found myself getting ready to have a little one of my own, I just couldn't seem to find exactly what I was looking for. That's when I found this diaper genie! All of the issues I had with the old one (noise, weight, bag removal, etc) are basically gone! This even has a bag-cutter in it! No more scissor-hunts! I did notics though that the smell doesn't go completely away unless you twist in between each diaper. And they finally made it so yes it may hold less than the older unit, but I think that's because they realized how heavey it gets and they really just made it easier on you so u do't have a 100lb bag of "poo" essentially to carry. I would always recomend this product, but remeber, it's not a miracle worker! And anything purchased has flaws,
...

gords17 says "The Playtex Diaper Genie Pail is a life saver!" about Playtex Diaper Genie Pail

If any of you have been subjected to a the stench of dirty diapers than you will appreciate this product. The Playtex Diaper Genie Pail is a life saver! You just put the dirty diaper inside, twist and the smell is gone. We live in a small apartment so it's important that my entire place doesn't stink like baby poop. I don't know what I would do without this. A matter of fact, this is my go to gift at baby showers. Every new parent needs a Diaper Genie. The only downside is the cost and installation of the refills. First off, you can buy them in bulk at kmart or costco to cut down on the cost. But taking out the bag of dirty diapers to install a diaper genie refill is my least favorite activity. Once you get the hang of it it's no big deal but at the beginning I ripped a bunch of bags and had dirty diapers spill onto the carpet. Not pretty. But still - I would whole heartedly recommend the diaper genie to all new parents.
...

Katrena says "Goodbye Diaper Genie--expensive bags and intimidates babysitter!" about Playtex Diaper Genie Pail

We bought a diaper genie at a yard sale before we had our first child. It was the older version with the smaller opening at the top with replacement bags with the pink stripe. Later, we acquired one of the newer ones with a larger opening with replacement bags with the blue stripe. They also makes one with an even larger opening with replacement bags with a green stripe, but we have never used that one. The Diaper Genie is a large plastic trashlike container with a hinged lid. A circular insert in the top contains a tubular plastic bag.

How it works:

To set up, place a replacement set of bags into the top of the Diaper Genie by removing the entire top and pull up the top edge of the plastic bag.

Place the top of the Diaper Genie back on and pull the top edge of the plastic bag above the top edge of the Genie.

Place the plastic ring on the inside of the plastic bag and seat it into the Genie.

Bring the top edge of the plastic bag together and tie in a knot

Push the knot through the opening...

...

juliewright says "Nice to have for newborns, but nasty at about 9 months" about Playtex Diaper Genie Pail

I absolutely loved this when I got it for a shower gift. I have 6 kids and only used this for the last 2. The diaper genie is great for newborn diaper changing. The problem is after your child starts eating regular food or baby food, the poopy diaper seem to stink a bit more! I have just stopped using it with my 11 month old because it doesn't keep the smell contained. Also the cutter on the lid, from the beginning, hasn't always cut the best and you have to keep doing it over and over....

My sister bought me the diaper genie as a gift after I got home from the hospital. I looked at her crazy because I thought it was a waste of money but when I started using this product it was really great. No smells come from it and it bags the diapers and encloses them so the you never smell anything coming from this beautiful machine.

Buy it you wont be sorry!
...

meddledeal says "Diaper Genie is Not Very Practical" about Playtex Diaper Genie Pail

When I first got pregnant with my daughter, I thought I would need everything a mom would need to make my life a little easier. Oh boy, did I thought wrong! I had put the Playtex Diaper Genie Pail as part of my baby registry back in 2006, and got it as a gift from an old college friend. I thought, 'great, this is going to make my diaper disposal easier' Yeah right!

When I first used it, I thought that the bag would tie the diaper around as I turned the dial and it would turn into individually wrapped diapers, nope. It didn't do that. It was just one continuous twisted diaper bag, which we had to always cut when it got full and it stunk. I thought I was doing something wrong, It was not turning out like it was on the box. Maybe I was doing something wrong. I read the instructions and tried again, and said whatever to it and put it in the closet.

Now, looking back at it, it wasn't the best idea in the world. Plus, what a waste spending money on the diaper genie bags.
...

jasyjen says "Both a help and a hinderance." about Playtex Diaper Genie Pail

I really was on the fence with whether to give this product a good review, or a bad one. There were things I really liked about this product, but also things I really disliked. First off, let me say that I got my Diaper Genie as a gift with my first son. I used it with both of my boys simply because it seemed to make life easier. I could just shoot the dirty diaper into the genie, seal it off and then forget about it.

But. One thing you have to know about this product is: STAND BACK when you open up the base to empty it!! P-U!!! The smell that hits you it just horrible. Think about it, you probably have at least one days worth of diapers jammed in that thing, maybe even more than that! It is NOT pleasant! Once you empty all the messy diapers (which come out looking like a roll of sausage) the Diaper Genie smells fine again and is ready to receive more diapers.

But then......time marches on, and you've had the Diaper Genie for a few months.......and guess what happens? ...
...

bethglen says "Save your money and just use plastic bags!!!" about Playtex Diaper Genie Pail

We purchased this item when I was pregnant because all the books and magazines said we needed to and everyone raved about the Diaper Genie. I couldn't wait to use it, I was sure it would take care of all our nasty gross smelly diapers and would be neat to use too! The first time we used it after our daughter was born, it bundled up one diaper and then promptly jammed. We didn't realize it was jammed however until we put in the second diaper and ended up with a big smelly mess on our hands. We just figured we weren't doing it right, so we got out the instruction book and tried again. After following the instructions to a T with the same results we gave up and just used plastic grocery bags to bag up the mess and toss away. This is an expense a new parent does not need, especially when the thing doesn't work. Save yourself some hard cash that you can use on diapers instead and don't buy the Diaper Genie!...

Got this from my baby shower. My husband and I couldn't figure out how to use it. When someone showed us it did not contain the smell. Cutter hard to use.

I think the diaper genie is a wonderful invention and does a good job. It does help contain the diaper odor rather well. It also seems to hold a lot of dirty diapers.

Everyone time I empty when my daughter is sleeping, it wakes her up.

Very easy to use and refill. Would recommend.
...

I have used a diaper genie for all of my kids. It is easy to use and the refills are fairly inexpensive. We have 14 month old twins and are so glad we don't have to deal with the messy diapers in the trash can. The diaper genie wraps each diaper in plastic which helps to seal it until the can is emptied....

Prospective parents will find a million and one details to worry about as they get ready for baby's new arrival, but one detail they can safely scratch off the list is grabbing a Diaper Genie pail. These things are a TOTAL waste of money. If you really want a dedicated container near your changing table, just go to Target and grab a STANDARD, inexpensive, plastic pail. You'll thank me for it later.

If you do get the Diaper Genie, I hope you have a strong stomach and a weak nose, because these things get disgusting FAST. You really do NOT want any kind of pail sitting around full of pee and poop. You want to empty the pail often and well, rinsing in between, and zapping with a spritz of Lysol. The alternative is beyond unsavory...something that the Playtex folks never really tell you about in their marketing ads.

Stink factors aside, managing bags is cumbersome and complicated, and honestly, you have enough hassles just figuring out where the butt creme is....you don't want to mess with complicated......

This things are not practical , not this brand , not any other brand . I got it as a present , and thought well , might as well use it, but I used it only for a month , and then threw it away , I don't even know why I used it even for that month , maybe with hope that I would like it with time... Every time you open it to throw a diaper in it , the baby wakes up , and the smell is of course not a poopie -diaper smell, but it is some kind a of a smell as bad as the diaper.
...
