I have been using the Diaper Genie II for two months now and I have no complaints. It has an excellent compact little size and shape. It's also sturdy and won't fall over or scoot around if used on carpet. I haven't noticed any bad smell leaking out at all. It doesn't have a foot pedal like the Elite model, but I've found that I don't need it. I just open the top before I begin diaper changing and it's ready to go. You have to wrap the dirty diapers up into a tight little ball and then push them down through the trap. It doesn't use regular garbage bags, it needs the Diaper Genie refill bags. However, I've found that you can make the refills last a lot longer if you use the pail only for soiled diapers, and throw the only-wet ones in a regular garbage can. Also, only empty the bag when it is full. In two months I've only used one refill so far. When it's time to change, easily flip the can open, cut the bag with the handy and easy cutter, and tie a knot to make a new...
...

MRSverret says "Keep your house smelling fresh, even with a ton of dirty diapers" about Playtex Diaper Genie II

I received the Playtex Diaper Genie II for my baby shower. It's definitley one of those things that I never thought I would need so much.

The Diaper Genie II is designed for the diaper changing mama (or daddy) in mind. It's about two feet tall, slim and white. It's size and shape make it easy to store and dispose of diapers with ease. It controls odor with an AIR-TITE, seven layer film, and a Push-n-Lock clamp to lock away odor. To use just open the top of the pail, insert diaper and push down. In the opening you will find a "trap door" just push your way through there and deposit the diaper. Changing the bag is really easy and inside of the pail there is even a bag cutter built in for your conveinence. The refills can be bought for around $6.

Overall this product is great. It keeps the stink in and holds quite a bit of dirty diapers. As with anything you might be putting dirty diapers into and letting sit, this pail can start to stink inside. I also don't like the fact that I have...
...

Lyrik08 says "Good Stinky Device" about Playtex Diaper Genie II

The Diaper Genie II came out right after we registered for a regular Diaper Genie, but fortunately, before anybody bought us the original kind. As soon as I read the box for this one, I knew I wanted it over the regular Diaper Genie. Here's why: This thing is designed to work perfectly, even when sleep-deprived parents are using it in the middle of the night.

The Diaper Genie II is white and is the size of a small kitchen trash can. It's tall enough that you don't have to bend too far to open it when you're disposing of a diaper. It's also nondescript enough to sit unnoticed next to the changing table. And it keeps the stink to itself (at least until you empty it).

It does require special Diaper Genie II refills. These cost about $5.50-$6 apiece, and last approximately 1.5-2 weeks, maybe a little longer if your baby isn't going through a zillion diapers a day.

To dispose of a dirty diaper, you flip open the top of the Diaper Genie II. Yes, you use your hand -- there is no foot pedal like...
...

mariposa767 says "No smell, no mess with the Diaper Genie II" about Playtex Diaper Genie II

The Diaper Genie II is a wonderful addition to our nursery. It is so easy to use... just pop open the lid and shove the diaper in, close the lid, and you are done! The refils are very easy to put into the contraption, and it is very easy to open it up for taking the dirty diapers out once it is full (maybe every 20-30 diapers or so). It has a cutting device inside that makes it very easy to cut the bag off and then you just tie up the bag of dirty diapers, and tie a knot on the end of the new section of bagging. Even after having diapers sit inside the Diaper Genie for several days, there is no smell. My husband doesn't even mind taking the dirty diapers out of this thing! I think that the price on it is very reasonable for something that improves the task of diaper changing. The only problem we have ever had with our Diaper Genie is that my mom has a hard time opening the lid, so she is constantly putting the diapers on top of it for me to take care of later. She must not...
...

Joietulip says "Keeps my dog from eating diapers!" about Playtex Diaper Genie II

While it certianly is not a necessity, the Diaper Genie II has been a godsend for us. We have a dog that LOOOOVES to eat things like diapers. The dirtier teh better if you catch my drift. The diaper Genie II keeps him out! Even flip top trash cans can't stop him so the fact that the lid snaps shut is perfect. It does not pop open when knocked over either- so sneaky Fido can't even use that tactic.

Pros- Durable, it is sturdy and durable, so no issues with is cracking and releasing diaper smell.

It really does keep the smell contained. The lid snaps tight so ther eisn't much room for stinky air to escape. Now- when you open it to put a dirty dipe in it, well, what can you expect really?

Refills are easy to find and get. Every grocery store and big box store has them.

Cons- That lid really snaps tight! Sometimes this causes problems when trying to open it while holding a dipe and trying to stop a baby from squirming off the changing table.

Refills are expensive- $5...
...

SpokaneMan says "The Playtex Diaper Genie II Is A Great Parental Tool" about Playtex Diaper Genie II

We received the Diaper Genie IIas a baby shower gift, and after three months of constant use, I am ready to say that we couldn't live without it. It's really basically a fancy trash-can used for disposing of used diapers, but because of its ease of use, and time saving capabilities, it has become a great luxury to have in the changing room. Out of the box it takes a few minutes to set it up for the first time, but with the easy to follow directions it can be up and running in less than 10 minutes. From there its just a matter of changing out the bag each time that it fills up with dirty diapers, and taking advantage of its internal features.

When assembled, the Diaper Genie II is around two feet in heigth, and strongly resembles an enclosed trashcan. At the front bottom is a lever that you press with your foot to open a compartment on the top, and that is where you dispose of the used diapers. I have found that the best way to place the diapers into the Diaper Genie is to fold...
...

I bought the Diaper Genie ll at Babies R Us for only $15.00. It was on sale and I used an in store coupon. So for the amount I paid it is a great deal. I had the original Diaper Genie when I had my 9 year old. That one was more difficult to change the refills, but you could dispose of ithe diapers better than this one. This one you put your hand through the flap where all the dirty diapers are. That is the one downfall, but if you always wrap the diaper in a way that there's nothing sticking out of it you will not touch anything unwanted....My daughter is 7 months old now and on solids. I have yet to smell the dirty diapers in the room. One word of advice, when you cut off the diapers from the container, don't drop the filled bag as it could break. Just place it down softly. Don't want to have to clean up that mess!!!!
...

As a new parent I wasn't sure what was best to handle dirty diapers and lessen oders in my baby's room. I read a bunch of review and spoke with other mothers and it seemed like the Diaper Genie II was the most popular and recommended. It works well at containing odors but we have had a recent problem with it. As my son got older and was creating larger BM's the diapers were more full and required more force to push them into the bin and past the mechanisim that helped to trap the odors. Well a few weeks ago i was trying to push through one of his heavier diapers and a piece of the plastic popped off of the mechanisim. The pail still works, but now it is lopped-sided and is a pain to use. It also doesn't trap the odors as well. I am not sure if we are going to keep the broken one right now or if we are going to look into buying a new pail, but if we do it will not be the Diaper Genie II. The other downside to this pail is the expensive refills for the liners.
...

I purchased the Diaper Genie II in preparation for my third child, hoping I would like it better than my earlier Diaper Genie. Nope. It's still a lot of trouble to use, and plastic holds odors no matter what you do. I'm now using individual bags for soiled diapers and switching to a stainless steel garbage can that won't hold odors.
...

In retrospect, I wish I'd done more research on the different genies. This one requires that you push the diaper down through the opening. The problem is, you pretty much have no option but to have your hand swiping against the same plastic that the dirty diaper trails against. It's pretty gross.

In addition, the top of ours--the lid--is always coming off. The blade is iffy--it doesn't always slice the bag quickly. Overall, I'm the opposite of satisfied.
...

After using the diaper genie 1 for years and "upgrading" to the 2 I was disappointed. The first system keeps the smell down much better!! And with the new system you have to stick your hand down in where the dirty diapers are to despose of them. It does hold more diapers than the first system so I guess thats a plus....

So basically we got this as a gift. I'd heard so many good things about the Diaper Genie, but what really turned us off is you essentially have to reach into the bag of dirty diapers to dispose of a diaper. Grooossss! Add to that the cost of the refills, how environmentally unfriendly it is (on top of disposables being unfriendly!), and it just ended up being not our cup of tea....
