mellou says "Philips Home Theatre can't get replacement parts" about Philips - HTS3555 Home Theatre System

I purchased a Philips Home Theatre system with DVD player, model HTS355537 in December of 2007. In November of 2008 it stopped working and I took it in for my extended warranty coverage repair. Sears was forced to replace the item since Philips no longer has replacement parts for that model. I have to take a Samsung unit for comparable cost. I have to wait over a month for the Samsung to arrive at the store and I have the Philips speakers mounted into the ceiling (I did not have to return them to Sears). My issue is that if the Philips speakers do not attach to the Samsung, then my husband has to unmount all 5 Philips and then rerun the Samsung. No easy task in basement ceiling tiles that fit tight. So he probably won't do it so that he doesn't chip the ceiling tiles. Seems a shame that a DVD player that cost $199 plus tax can't even last a year.
...

TruthRevealed says "Poor Quality.....1000 Watts Of Nothing" about Philips - HTS3555 Home Theatre System

Extremely underpowered subwoofer, barely heard at all and when you do its not clean, sounds very distorted. Lack of clarity from the rest of the speakers. No speaker Controls to adjust for room size, +- to speakers. No control over the system, individual taste is non exsistent. The sound presets, Drama, Action etc.. are so similar there is hardly a defineable difference. None of the presets increases the subwoofer loudness to any acceptable degree, clarity or speaker clarity. There are many other systems that have less watts but have better clarity, better subwoofer, come with all the speaker controls and are equal to or cheaper in price. The Phillips HTS3555 is a poor quality system with no user control that I compare with some of the first bottom end systems that have ever come out.
...

Donman says "Big sound on a small budget." about Philips - HTS3555 Home Theatre System

I purchased this home theater system from Best Buy during a great sale. I paid $168.00 for it. From the time I took everything out of the box, until I turned it on, I think only 1/2 hour had passed. Each speaker is color coded and they give ample speaker wire for the rear speakers. The tuner picks up stations well, and even programmed the ones it gets in well by itself. There are a few different sound settings as can be expected, I use the same one for all my viewing. The subwoofer is not overpowering at all and doesn't get ridiculously distorted at high volumes. The only down side to this system is that you can not set the levels of the individual speakers, including the subwoofer. Therefore, placement of the speakers is critical. I find the 2 front speakers and center channel sound best right in front of the tv itself, spread about 2 feet apart from each other. The 2 rear speakers I have hung on the wall at ear level on each side of my couch. Its pretty much set......

elite1fl says "Rock the House with this low priced system." about Philips - HTS3555 Home Theatre System

First off let me start by saying this is a great unit for those that don't need to wake up the whole neighborhood. I purchased this unit at Sears for $189. I was looking for something for the bedroom so I don't need it to rattle the whole house.

With that said for a 1000watt system at this price you won't be disapppointed. Setup was a breeze, if you've ever hooked up stereo equipment it should go pretty smooth. Every thing is clearly marked and color coded, and the manual is easy to understand. The speakers are hard wired so if you want to use better wires you will have to cut and splice. The dvd player is good that comes with the system, it even plays dvd's you have burned including dual layer discs. Cd's are not a problem either. The only problem I have with the dvd player is sometimes when you put a dvd or cd in you can't use the controls like shuttle, skip, or anything until you eject it and insert again then it works fine. This could be a firmware problem but I have...
...
